The Q & A Thread (for questions that do not need a thread)

So after being hit with the £30 import fee I've been forced to reevaluate what I can afford in terms of new releases over the coming weeks and I'm going to have to drop either Chuunibyou or Tokyo Ghoul. I haven't seen either so I need some advice on what you guys think is the better show. I know they're really different shows so they might be hard to compare but I'd appreciate any advice. Here is a link to my anime list with a list of shows I've seen and how I rate them if you need a better idea of what shows I like. Thanks!

Chuunibyou. I reckon you'd enjoy that much more going by shows I've seen you talk positively about :)

Just watch the OP, I'd say it's up your street :p way more than Ghoul (which I found a little meh overall)

Totally different shows as you say, but I enjoyed both. Personally, I preferred Chuunibyou, and as per above, it would seem more in line with what you might prefer.

Sucks about the import fees, I got hit for £82 last week! :(

Chunibyo is fun:

As for Tokyo Ghoul, the UK CE is limited to 1000 copies if you like that kind of thing. I would say the show is not that great to pay loads because it's got problems (and Anime Ltd CEs tend to last around 6 months anyway).

Go for Chunibyo, it's fun.

Anyone familiar with ebays global shipping program? I got an email saying a package would be delivered today but thought they used royal mail for the last leg?

I don't think there's any hard and fast rules about the couriers used in the GSP. GSP is all in aid of sellers who don't want the hassle of shipping abroad. Once at a local facility the package is then sent on to the buyer, using any number of couriers for the final legs once the host destination is reached. Could be RM, DHL, FedEx etc.

Does anyone know the best way to legally stream or buy the original Hajime No Ippo series?

So far the original series isn't streamable over here (The Rising, which is the third? season, is however available on Crunchyroll). I think Tokyopop or Geneon were the ones who released the original series as Fighting Spirit but that has long gone since went OOP.

So to answer your question, there really isn't a legal solution unless you get the JP sets.

With talk of customs intercepting parcels, I wonder if it might be worth setting up a 'when were you last hit for charges' thread?

I haven't had a grey slip through my door in about 2 years. It seems like I only ever get charged when there's one of HM Customs' behind the scenes quota-hitting events. I haven't heard of folks being charged en masse for a while, so it might be a good idea to track this stuff and see how frequently AUKNers are being clobbered for VAT and handling.

I remember buying a figure and it got stopped for import duty, but I think a few days later I just received the parcel without paying anything. It had the sticker on telling them the amount needed to be paid but it was on the bottom of the box maybe they missed it *shrug* Buying figures had me privy to many import duty slips however. Once they had a few of my items hostage and I paid for one item and they sent them all, I'm not going to complain.

To be honest i don't mind paying import taxes as that's the risk you take when importing, but i do try and use sites that mark it as gift and undervalue it. What i don't like is paying the handling charge of RM and PF as that usually is more than the tax due.

Yeah, I object to the ransom fees more than the paying of the taxes. I've never had an item where the tax has been more than the fees. I think the fees should be a %age of the tax on the item, to a certain maximum.

Sudden thought, and this might seem like a random question, but there is a purpose to it; are Kaze discs manufactured in France and then shipped over to the UK?

None of my Kaze releases seem to have a production country listed on the discs, at least that I can see.

I did however notice my Black Lagoon and Code Geass volumes say "Licensed for private home viewing in France" on the back, which is uh, interesting.

I don't know why, but I suddenly remembered Manga UK said Nisekoi was delayed as they hadn't received the discs from Kaze.

If those discs came from France, there may be a problem. One of the big replicators in France was spectacularly buggering it up for about 5 years worth of blu-rays for most big French distributors, and nobody quite realised how bad it was until the beginning of this year. Consequently A LOT of French blu-rays are now not playing black, bronzing and presenting other errors. I wondered if Kaze's discs might be liable to do the same thing.

There's more info on the top post (from Torrente) here: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php ... 0&page=101
