The Q & A Thread (for questions that do not need a thread)

I've got both. 2.0 does not include the original.

They are both good but it seems like (to me at least) 2.0 was an update that tried to update the look to give it a more (for the time) futuristic feel (with CGI being relatively new). At the time - this worked. It did look new and futuristic. But as time has passed the CGI has started looking really dated. The original I guess could be considered more timeless in that regard.

Which one should you go for? Depends on how willing you are to look past / forgive the CGI in 2.0... But there is (IMHO) an advantage in having both even if you use 2.0 as a reference to give you an idea about where CGI was at it's time of release... If cash is a real concern though then go for the cheaper option... possibly even consider the ghost in the shell 2.0 / innocence double pack for 12.99 (£8.00 if you're willing to settle for used on Amazon)... You could always then consider shelling out the extra for the original if you decide you like it enough.

You're right it doesn't, I read a review that said the description on the item is wrong on Amazon. The description states "GITS 2.0 High Def picture with 6.1 DTS Master Audio in both English & Japanese, plus Ghost In The Shell The original movie, Standard Def picture, upscaled" which is the description for the double pack you mentioned.

Also, money isn't a huge concern, but I'd just rather not pay more money than I have to. I guess I'll go with the steelbook version. I haven't actually seen the film before, so I think I'd rather watch the pure version first before I see any other version.

What's the movie in the extras then? I've never really thought about it but I vividly remember another version of the movie on my copy in the extras (it looked like ass), I always just assumed it was the original but never actually watched it.

The original Ghost in the Shell film is included in the 2.0 film. It's part of the extras and the video quality is 1080i.

I stand corrected it is indeed on there. I'm sure the steelbook release was accompanied by something along the lines of "first time on blu-ray" which added to my confusion...

A brief look at it does look like the quality isn't brilliant...

I'm sure I've heard people saying the version on the 2.0 Blu-Ray is just an upscale and that the Steelbook was the first time it was truly in HD on disc?

I just did a quick comparison of the 2.0 and the upscale of the original on the disc and while 2.0 looks better it's not a whole better so the best choice would be the steelbook as that was a proper HD transfer and from the screenshots i've seen looks much better. As said above the CGI used for 2.0 is really dated now, you can tell it was done 7 years ago (although looks much older).

As I approach the end of Gundam Seed, I was looking on Amazon France again to price up how much Gundam Seed Destiny was going to cost me only to discover their release of Destiny only has French and Japanese audio and French subtitles. Can anyone confirm there is no English language option on this set? If not, what is the best release of Destiny to buy?

It should have English audio, possibly a mistake on Amazon's part?

Has anyone used Frys.com to buy anime before?

I just went to buy Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 Blu-ray on there as it's only $11.99 but the shipping cost was around $90

A question for those who use CDJapan, when it says "Usually ships in 3-5 days" it means they have to source it from their supplier, is this something that they will actually do or is it like Zavvi where what they actually mean is "we'll maybe get it in again, maybe not...."?

Also what's the best postage to use in the hopes of it not getting caught up in customs? I remember someone saying it was SAL but not sure which one (I assume SAL Small Packet 1-3 weeks / Without Tracking. but wanna make sure).

When i've ordered something from them and it says 3-5 days then it is shipped within that time period, i've nothing cancelled when it says 3-5 days. I've only had a order cancelled when it says 5-7 days as they said they couldn't get it.

As for shipping i always go for Unregistered SAL (which is SAL small packet) marked as gift. I've not been caught once with customs doing it that way.

Okay thanks, I'll give that a go then, one more question though, what does the "Send my items in a plain envelope" mean? Like, what else would they send it in? Should I also check that box?

I feel like I may have asked this before but I genuinely can't remember. How is the Kaze blu ray release of Code Geass? I assume it's not fantastic due to the fact it's 25 episodes across 2 discs, but I'd rather get an opinion of someone who has actually seen them.

Mine usually comes in a small box, never opted for the envelope thing. That seems to be a new feature as all my shipping options have been saved from when i first used CDJapan years ago.

I'm not sure if I should answer this as I'm far from a visual quality expert so take what I say with a pinch of salt, but I didn't really have any issues with it tbh. I assume the fact it's a upscale (at least I think it is, either that or putting it on 2 discs REALLY messed with it lol) helped them cram it on 2 discs, and I do remember some banding in some of the really dark scenes. I think it's safe to say that it SHOULD have been on 3 discs at the very least, but I personally didn't find it a bad release, especially for the price.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable in the subject can give you a proper answer.

Yeah apparently they just put your items in a box, and then put said box in a plain envelope :/ don't really see the point of that tbh so I'll give it a miss, thanks for your help.
