The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

It will be as fixed and annoying as ever but there are some good picks on there. The list of releases made me appreciate how many top titles MVM have been quietly putting out all year.

The retailer and specialist categories could really use a little more love and they still have known bootleggers in the merchandise category, sigh >_>

Neo have got a survey up for their awards NEO Awards 2016 Survey

Not sure how some options can be on there. Seeing how Tales of Berseria hasnt been released here yet and that play.com is no more (it's now rakuten)

Anybody can add them, I guess a fan added it preemptively. Their Manga categories are equally stupid. Simon & Schuster? As in Viz Media distributor Simon & Schuster - why are both listed? Surely then I could just go Random House who distribute for both Dark Horse and Kodansha?

Didn't Rakuten announce they were leaving the UK too?

Neo Awards Fixed?! Perish the thought. I'm sure Manga were the best distributor last year. :p

To be honest, I'm not sure "fixed" is the right word, I suspect everyone might have won fair and square. It's just perhaps a question of whether they deserved it or not.

Definitely. Looking at that list, MVM have released 4 of my 5 favourite series for the year (Eccentric Family, Love Live, Nozaki-Kun and Maid Sama Eternal Summer being the fifth). Gave my vote to Nozaki, narrowly ahead of Eccentric Family. I gave them my vote for Usagi Drop last year, too. :O

10 Count best mango

Lol, perhaps I was a bit harsh. I don't think it's unfair for say, Manga to win best distributor (even though I personally would never give them that title) because I understand that a larger audience is familiar with their work, so of course in a popularity vote it's natural that they do well. Once upon a time I may even have voted for them myself. However, not removing known bootleggers and having a voting system which makes it very easy for said bootleggers to vote for themselves bothers me a lot. The sponsorship/advertising relationships between a few key companies in the UK anime marketing business makes some of these promotions very dodgy.

I'm mainly in it to see the results for the best anime/manga etc as those results are more interesting than self-congratulatory nonsense for dodgy UK merch sellers.

Yup - I don't exactly trust NEO much when it comes to impartiality. To be honest, the only reason I really still buy the magazine is just for something anime related to flick through monthly in a printed format. And Jonathan Clements' column - which is always excellent.

I watched Blood Blockade Battlefront the other day and enjoyed it quite a bit, so it's good to hear that it's getting another season. The staff changes are odd but I'd be willing to give it a chance. I'll probably try to find time to post something about the show soon, because I thought it was quite interesting and not exactly what I'd have expected.

Quickly relaying this as I've just spottedit on Facebook - Discotek have announced that they're releasing Crusher Joe - The Movie on DVD, with a Blu Ray to come later on.

They're also looking to release the OVAs. Good times!

Glad to see Crusher Joe's getting a re-release - the old dvds are changing hands for silly money now.

Another new trailer for the Lupin III: Goemon film came out today. Definitely seems like they've moved to a cleaner look for the animation compared to the Jigen film.

I remember a few years ago when the Best Video Game category in the Neo awards was "sponsored" by Koei.

Coincidentally, the winner of the award was a Dynasty Warriors game (developed by Koei, BTW).

I like Warriors games, but I can't think of a single year in the history of gaming when the best game of the year was a Warriors game. Maybe the voting public just went a bit nuts that year, but it just seemed very very dodgy to me.

I voted as MVM for Best Distributor this year anyway. I love MVM.

With respect to the FunimationNow streaming portal's capacity, or indeed the lack thereof, let us hope that this 'incredible' experience is nonetheless a credible one.

Story centers on five girls who work in the tourism bureau of their small provincial town and follows their efforts in reviving the rustic town.

Definitely looks set to be one of the Anime to watch for in 2017. Particulary for those who have seen Hana-Saku Iroha and/or Shirobako.
