The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

I really enjoyed Shirobako so I'll definitely give Sakura Quest a try. Hanasaku has been on my watch list for a while now, I think I will give it a try in this week.

Hanasaku Iroha is a pretty fantastic coming-of-age story that I tremendously enjoyed (still need to pick up the film though) and Shirobako is... well, Shirobako. Will definitely be watching this.

Recap of the recent news that's spawned around:

Inuyashiki will receive an anime adaptation from studio MAPPA and director Keiichi Satou (Rage of Bahamut: Genesis, Tiger & Bunny). The anime will air during the Autumn 2017 season while a live-action adaptation was also announced for 2018. The manga was created by Gantz creator Hiroya Oku and is available to read on Crunchyroll.

Takashi Miike's upcoming live-action adaptation of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable has finished filming in Spain and will continue filming in Japan with a confirmed theatrical release date of August 4th 2017.

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress will have a second season air sometime in 2018.

Former Studio Ghibli director Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Studio Ponoc (with Yoshiaki Nishimura, former producer at Ghibli) have announced an anime film adaptation of the 1971 British children's book The Little Broomstick from author Mary Stewart called Mary and the Witch's Flower (Mary to Majo no Hana). The anime will be released in Japanese theaters in the Summer 2017 season.

The next Resident Evil CG movie Biohazard Vendetta will be released in Japanese theaters on May 27th 2017, with an original story-line featuring Leon, Chris and Rebecca from the video game series.

Project Altair, suggested to be Shōkoku no Altair, has been green-lit to be an upcoming anime production between Aniplex and studio MAPPA with director Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, Rurouni Kenshin). The anime will air in 2017.

Masaaki Yuasa, known for many works like Ping Pong and The Tatami Galaxy, will have two anime works he'll be directing during the Spring 2017 season; the film Yoru wa Mijikashi Arukeyo Otome from the same author of The Tatami Galaxy, and one other unknown project with more details to follow.

We've been blessed.

It looks like Black Clover will getting an anime from everyone's favourite studio, Pierrot.

As a fan of long, excessively drawn out Shonen Jump adaptations everyone else hates, I'm personally looking forward to this. Although judging from the mountain of indignant and horrified tweets I saw last night, I should probably just preemptively sit on the naughty step...

Oh yes I love Black Clover, plus it's a rather fast paced shonen manga...goes quite quickly from action to action.

I believe people are concerned about Pierrot's reputation for altering anime adaptations that maybe don't need it with original content to mixed result. I would defend both Tokyo Ghoul Root A and Twin Star Exorcists, but I can see why people were upset about both.

I would even go as far as to argue some of their changes to TSE were absolutely necessary to prevent it from coming across as more ****** up than it already is.

I actually think you like punishment to watch these kind of shows. Battle Shounen + Perriot does not bode well.

The only "battle shonen" I've seen from Pierrot is Twin Star Exorcists. I know they added a tonne of romcom filler as opposed to the manga, but I actually enjoyed it, and I would argue the romcom filler was necessary to get together without making everyone else seem abusive. Similarly they also removed a line implying that Rokuro and Benio might not be the titular exorcists. The only change I didn't completely understand in the episodes I saw is the alteration of Ryogo's character to make him more on board with the whole couple thing than he is in the manga.

I have been meaning to catch up with the show, maybe I'll do that at some point. I wouldn't call it battle shonen, but Root A works better on an emotional level than the main series, so I can almost forgive how much of a mess it is story-wise.

I dropped TSE about half way through as it was very samey I just got board. I may pick it up again at sme point just to finish it. Th Rom Com bits were actually allot better that some of the generic fight scene's. I generally avoid shows like this so Black Clover will be getting a swerve from me.

I think 50 episodes was obviously a mistake, but that it is now how I determine which shonen series to watch. If it's been order for more than 26 episodes at once, it's an immediate yes from me...

Less than 26 and it's a maybe. :)

Saw it mentioned on Twitter that the poll is supposed to include titles from the end of 2015. Somehow One-Punch Man didn't make the list. Haven't seen past episode 1, but I'm still somewhat confused as tonhow that's possible.

Judging from how defensive and arsey, actually crossing into rude, UKA were on Twitter when asked about this. I'm not sure I'd take their awards too seriously.

To be honest I'm pretty confused about the criteria for the award. It's the 2016 readers choice award but is it series that aired in 2016 (erased) or physical releases in 2016 (fullmetal alchemist) obviously it could be physical but this being the UK anime awards and Erased not being released in this country yet is a bit weird. Point being seems like two awards mixed together or they just didn't know what to nominate.
