Upcoming Overseas Anime DVD Artwork

It's fresh in my mind because I finally finished watching it recently after having the DVDs on my shelf for about a year. It's an interesting series, and I kind of have mixed feelings about it as it took me about three goes to properly get into it, and even then, I still found it pretty hard to follow. That said, there's just something about the overall look and tone of the series that really caught me, it just feels so fantastical and magical - in much the same way a Ghibli movie does, perhaps - and there's some really nice character development and emotional gut punches in amidst the story. Plus, the art style is pretty unique.

That is a very nice cover for Noein, but I don't think I'll be upgrading from DVD at that price.

Now? I guess "Japan's most beloved children's book has been a hauntingly beautiful feature film for thirty years, now here it is in English" might not be such a good sales pitch.

It's not a particularly strong selling point as I'd guess that there are probably more people familiar with the anime than have ever read an English translation of Miyazawa's book (I've yet to get round to it).

I definitely get where the 'took three tries' thing comes from - it's a pretty challenging show if you come to it cold.

I don't think I ever had any issues following the plot, though. As I recall - and it's about three years since I last watched it - it's pretty straightforward once you've got your head around the basic concepts.

As for the art style of the show, I can fully see folks having a bit of a struggle with it, or being turned off by it. But once you've got an episode or two in, you quickly get used to it. It suits some of the action scenes to a tee!

Thanks for the list qaiz, that helped to keep the FUNi spreadsheet up-to-date :)

Just one mistake in there, as Good Luck Girl is DVD only there will be no region A and B nor Dolby TrueHD i guess

Nice LE set - is there any hint at Funi's DBZ RF release being region free/region b compatible?
I am afraid it is locked! BoG was locked too so not at all surprising.I might end up getting all 3, Japan,FUNi and Manga.

Is Dragonar Academy actually what it's cover suggests? Because good grief.
The reason the cover is more likely to put me off is because I thought it was one of those Loli-Tsundere shows and there's not a Loli in sight. Terrible.

I do wonder what kind of show it is now though, interesting that they feel this is the best way to market it. At least it's something different I guess (though I'm not sure the show itself is).

Also, I liked the old version of the Hayate The Combat Butler cover, not sure why they felt they needed to put that background thing in. Plus, I'd have traded out Maria in favour of Izumi (not to be confused with Isumi), I like Maria but just not as much. Sentai are usually good at picking the right discs for me, it's disappointing. I suppose some people might be encouraged to get the DVD version for the extra discs and also that little bit extra at the bottom of the cover (though you'd think they'd want to encourage Blu-ray sales, get some art cards in there or something).

It's been a while since I watched Hayate The Combat Butler but I don't really remember it having too much fanservice in the actual show, at least it'd be tame by today's standards and comedy usually seemed to be the focus. Maybe I'm just remembering it wrong though, I guess I probably will buy it at some point and can find out then.

It's funny that you say that because I've always thought BD buyers dip out slightly, only getting some of the disc art compared to the DvD buyers.

That Arpeggio cover sure doesn't do justice to some of the amazing visuals that are in the show - also, why go with just the one girl when there are tonnes of them. The one they've gone with isn't even the main one!

Slightly Otaku have uploaded an unboxing of Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works I. Gorgeous set. Can't wait to receive mine.

It isn't a great show either. It's good, good enough to warrant an MVM release but there are better series that I would be more willing to pay a premium for.

I'll be getting the MVM version as it'll no doubt be much cheaper - given they've already announced their Q4 stuff though, looks like we won't be getting it until early next year now.
