I want the EoE Laserdisc set so bad. It looks beautiful. I can't really justify the cost considering it's a japanese audio only release, with no subtitles, not to mention I don't even have a laserdisc player but man does it make for an amazing collector's piece. I only have the Platinum Collection Tin (Digibook version) myself and 1.11 and 2.22 on blu ray. I also have a T-Shirt and a Phone Case but I don't think you could count those...

Yeah the LaserDisc set is amazing but you don't have to beat yourself up about it if you can't get it, its understandable, I'm just a crazy Evangelion nutcase :p The Tin Collection is a great set and it still looks great to this day for a DVD set. I own a lot more Eva junk but I was just trying to cover the OG Series. I own the standard UK 1.11 Blu-ray/DVD as well as the HMV exclusive Blu-ray with the slipcover, the CE 2.22 Blu-ray/DVD, the Japanese Blu-ray Limited Editions of 1.11,2.22 and 3.33, Evangelion Cels and filmstrips, Uniqlo T shirts, art-books, a ton of figures, S2 Works Soundtrack, Video Games, manga...basically I'm an Eva Geek :p But if I had it my way, I'd have more! Always room for it to grow. I took some pis of my LaserDisc set HERE

Sounds like Eva is to you what Macross is to me qaiz.

Basically, as far as western BD releases go, we're both screwed. For the moment at least.....

It's funny you say that, Macross is also a series that's near and dear to me but unfortunately (fortunately?) Harmony Gold don't seem to want my money otherwise I'd have a Macross shrine. As such, I own the series on DVD and the DYRL LE Blu-ray and the complete soundtrack but the elusive Macross TV Series Blu-ray set is something I'm looking to import down the line, but don't own it yet.

It's a stunning set mate, absolutely beautiful. My favourite part of my collection.

I decided a few months ago that HG will never allow Macross on BD outside of Japan, and with Big West and Studio Nue seemingly unwilling to take them on, it's fate appears to be sealed. That being the case, I'm importing the whole franchise, piece by piece, it's all available in Japan. Only a fraction of it is English friendly (Macross Plus, Macross F 30th Movie set) but I'm just remuxing the episodes with English sub tracks.

Got the Macross TV BD box, the DYRL anniversary set, Macross II, Macross Plus, the Macross F Shudisuta box, and I've got the Macross F Zentora Prime collection on the way. Just Zero and Macross 7 (which I was never overly keen on anyway) to go. Until Delta comes along anyway! :D

DVD-wise, I've got the ADV collectors box of the Macross TV series, the Animeigo sets, Macross II, Macross Plus, and just for good measure, the Macross set from Robotech Remastered. I think I've even got the Kiseki DYRL VHS, and the Clash of the Bionoids variant.

Never get sick of watching Macross. Luckily, or unluckily! :D

I'd bet on Harmony Gold getting more money on a 'Pay to close Harmony Gold down' Kickstarter than a 'More Robotech!' one...

Man that's an amazing collection of Macross goodies, very jealous. I've never really been one to just buy a breadth of shows and instead just focus on certain franchises/studios that I love and fixate on them. So Evangelon, Gainax, Patlabor, Ghibli, I just generally stick to those and buy anything and everything I can for them :p CD's, DVD's, LaserDisc, Blu-ray, CE/LE, Books, Cels, Figures, pretty much anything, as long as its good quality that is, which is why I don't delve too deeply into DVD's and why I love LaserDiscs, the packaging is amazing for them! I too have gotten to the point of just importing Japanese Blu-rays and remuxing them myself, I find that otherwise you're missing out on a load of amazing content that will probably never see the light of day here. I'm really into my typography and graphics design (probably due to Evangelion, I've even read interviews about how they came up and constructed the font that they use in the show and on the merchandise for Eva! :p It's Matisse EB) which is why some of the Japanese sets are droolworthy.

I think....I think I can just about make out my name on that box, it's mine!!! :D

Macross is probably the only anime that I'd go completely overboard on - BDs, DVDs, CDs, comics, books, posters etc - although no figurines/models yet - might be next on my list!

I'm lucky in that I actually really like all the constituent parts of the Macross franchise, with the possible exception of M7, but then I don't actually mind it, it's just not as great as the rest.

Eva is probably my second favourite anime - I probably wouldn't go as overboard on that but I'd definitely want the anime in the best possible form.

Off to look at Macross LDs now.....haha

Many thanks for your guide on BD.com btw - I used BiJ this time to import the Macross F Zentora BDs, shipped this morning :thumb:

Yeah I love Evangelion, I truly do believe that its one of the best series out there, but I never actually mention it when discussing my favorites partly because it's already known by everyone so no point regurgitating what everybody already knows, I haven't watched it in a while and like most things the internet has kind of run it into the ground. The reasons why people like Evangelion don't really resonate with the reasons why I like the series. It's a series I watched in an important point in my life and I related to the characters and just fell in love with the world. The main thing that attracts me to it is the consistency of evangelion. From the typography, the music, the graphics design, the whole product feels like a cohesive entity. I just love the merchandise available for it, although I'm not a fan of the ones that focus too much on the girls of Eva as I think that too is missing the point of Eva and why it appeals to me. Regardless I'd be lying if I said that I didn't own a few Evangelion figures of Asuka, Rei and Misato. Outside of SDF Macross, DYRL and Flashback 2012 I haven't seen any other Macross series which makes it easier for me to avoid getting too deep into it. I do own a Minmay figure however!

LaserDiscs have amazing packaging, minimal fluff and a huge canvas for amazing artwork. I own Patlabor on LaserDisc, Evangelion + Movies, Gunbuster and a few others. They look incredible :)

No problem in regards to the guide, I import a lot (mainly figures) and I know the worries and daunting nature of it all so I thought that its good to share your experience and make others life easier so I'm glad its been helpful. If I knew that it would turn out so helpful I would have made the guide more in depth and extensive :p

God the more I see it the more I think "Just buy it ffs, who cares if you can't understand it, you've seen the show enough times"......Urgh, want it so much.

Look at it this way - even if we do eventually get it over here, the packaging will never be on a par with this. Even AL, with the best will in the world, would struggle to get anywhere near this.

I know what you're saying. I love Macross, but I was lead to it through Robotech. I remember getting the original Video Gems VHS which only included the first two episodes. I played that for a couple of years, always wondering how it continued. It was a good few years before Kiseki started releasing series volumes. They got seven volumes out in the end, which was about twenty odd episodes. Again, left wondering how it continued/finished. It was a good few more years until SyFy aired it over here and I finally managed to see how things panned out. I've always been nostalgic about Robotech since then, partially due to the odyssey I endured just trying to see it all. Later, when I learned of the show's origins I eventually sought out Macross, and was thrilled to find it a much better version of the story. Minmay in particular fares much better than Minmei, but across the whole series, it's just tighter, better. I can't bring myself to have disdain for Robotech, like many Macross fans do though. Without Robotech I'd never have found Macross, and probably wouldn't have got into anime in general.

Gunbuster is another one I really need to pick up. Will have to be the full OVA though, not the 'movie version. Will have to be a remux job.

The guide was great. Easy to follow and I made my order in no time. Only bit I'd add is that they'll reduce the labelled package value if you ask them to. Fingers crossed that that gets it past customs without any additional charges but we'll see. Very handy option for the Japanese marketplace sellers who won't ship internationally. :)

True enough. There's very few series I'd pay this kind of money for, but I think Eva sits at the top of that pile...then again, it's actually cheaper than I thought it would be lol bargain really....how could I turn it down.

Well no, and that's probably what I'll do too. Just annoying that you have to remux rather than just putting a .srt file on a USB stick and plugging it into your TV.

I wonder why they didn't put English subtitles on Evangelion anyway, seems like it'd be worth it to sell more exports. I know that's not a huge priority but if they're doing a big fancy high quality release I wouldn't think an extra set of subtitles would overload the discs (although I don't really know much about it, to be fair). I'd be surprised if any extra costs weren't covered too.

Maybe it just didn't occur to them.

None of the Japanese Evangelion releases have come with English subtitles.
