The Visual Novel Thread

Got Koihime Musou yesterday. Liking it so far. The battles break up the text rather nicely (even if they are a bit easy). I might give a verdict by the end of next week if I finish it by then.

Koihime looks interesting but I'm going to have to pass because it's a bit lolirific. A non-adult version alá KiraKira and I'm there.
There's more healthy women than lolis in Koihime Musou.

Translator's note: Healthy means "voluptuous" or "curvy"

I finished Koihime Musou earlier today. It was a fun VN to play and I admit I did get emotional with the endings for Aisha, Rinrin and Shuri and I guess the harem end was good enough closure. The battles were welcome breaks, but they did get a little monotonous once you knew what formation the enemy would use and you could just spam "Charge". I did enjoy the Home Base Phase scenarios where you spend time with all 6 generals but everyone else was rather dull to spend time with so I just stuck to the main 6 girls. I really did enjoy Aisha's, Rinrin's and Shuri's scenarios, even though I acknowledge that they weren't great. I'm probably just a big sap for getting emotional with these types of VNs.

Here's to Shin Koihime Musou getting a release (hopefully).

Thought i'd start playing the first Eroge i've ever played called Yin-Yang. If you are familiar with the X-Change games then you should know what this one will be about! The usual gender-bender/medicine/school setting goes wrong and the ensuring laughter when said transformation happens! After all these years, it still makes me laugh in its absurdity! :D

Aren't most VNs/ADV games eroge anyway? I would have thought it would be classed as nukige if it has lots of sex in it.

VNs almost all are.

ADV not sure*, there's a fair number of all-ages ADV based on TV anime and it includes all the murder mystery type stuff (except Higurashi and Umineko), then there's things like iM@S.
*PC game sales data is basicaly imposible to find.

Its all the same thing in the end i believe. True Yin Yang is nukige but you still have flag points that point you to a particular characters bad or good ending. Nukige is just a tag in a way

Btw...even for a Nukige game, its still fun ;)

MangaGamer's latest, Kara no Shoujo, has caught my eye. It's a murder mystery where, according to the MG rep, your actions have consequences:

MG rep said:
Yup. you have to piece the clues together yourself. If you can’t; if you lack the evidence needed to prove it; if you reach the wrong conclusions; then another girl will die.
Take that, LA Noire!

It looks amazing, with beautiful character design and backgrounds, AND you get to sex up a variety of generously proportioned wimmins. Unfortunately there's no voice because the agency that owns the rights wanted an exorbitant fee, but I expect an "unofficial" patch will be online within days of the game's release on 29th June.

I have Demonbane! It's a great VN so far. I like the mixing of magic and super robots. Some epic stuff will be going down later on.

I've also been reading MuvLuv Alternative. I have no words that are enough to describe how amazing it is. It has potential to top Ever 17 as my favourite VN and even enter my top 10 video games of all time. It's that good. Also, I really feel for Takeru. This VN throws so much **** at him that he's made to suffer more horrors even after getting PTSD. It's a messed up VN. Don't get me started on Marimo's death.

And it's set in Tokyo in 1956? Color me interested.

Although I am interested to see what "Some changes were necessary for our release" actually means... or is that just the lack of voices?

See here

The changes basically amount to the removal of voices and having to port the game to a new engine (the latter of which will go unnoticed by players, so I'm guessing they only mentioned it to show how hard they've worked on the game). The voices thing is reflected, I think, in the price. 25 euros for such a relatively new (2008) and high profile title is not bad at all.

Cool, I also like the sound of "Not only is Kara no Shoujo an excellent work on its own, but it also serves as an important link to the new game which Innocent Grey is currently developing, and since they would like to see that brought over as well".
