The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

I really hope it's a remaster and not a re-release of the American Cowboy Bebop movie as I've heard mostly negative things about that release (sound & picture quality). Typical Sony really; they only put effort into big Hollywood films, yet they're so unwilling to relinquish rights.

I wonder if that means Sony would finally let AL release the film on BD in the UK...
Likely not, their pronlems are known to be UK-specific.

That US BD release was a sub-livence IIRC..

From The New World complete collection on DVD has popped up on AOL, hopefully a complete set on Blu-Ray to be added ... http://www.anime-on-line.com/xcart/product.php?productid=27327&cat=59&bestseller=Y

Based on the errors in the single-part BD releases, that MVM said they couldn't financially justify fixing, as it would involve reauthoring the discs, a huge expense for what they believed to be a small number of affected customers, I would assume no BD reissue will be coming from MVM. (They believe the problem was player-based, I'm not convinced.)

I was under the impression the errors affected the DVD release as well. But don't quote me on that. I can't even remember what the issues were.

The errors were that one of the BD discs (IIRC part 1, disc 2?) wouldn't play past the logo screens for some customers. I can confirm it does not affect the DVD version, as MVM sent me a free DVD copy to replace my affected BD copy. :)

I didn't realise my copy was affected until months after I'd brought it, and I'd brought it on sale. MVM were really great about fixing it for me. :D

My BR of that show played fine, as far as I can remember?

Good it's getting a complete collection though - it's an amazing show, so all the extra exposure it can get is to be applauded.

MVM told me it had only affected a small number of customers, so they thought it was player-based. (I tried it on three different players, and it didn't work on any, so I'm not convinced.)

MVM have posted on their Facebook page with news of Blu Ray release dates for Chobits, Berserk and - wait for it - Ergo Proxy!

Chobits hits on October 10th, Berserk on November 21st (meaning an end to my already thinly stretched running joke of wanting Berserk for DotW in the sales thread) and Ergo Proxy on December 12th.

Gonna start saving already. I plan to buy all three!

Not impossible, but early days yet on that frontier...

Ooh, exciting.

Wonder if that means we might start seeing Arrow release Sony stuff too. (Arrow and their freelancers are the people who originally told Blu-ray.com forum members that Sony UK aren't/weren't fond of sub-licencing.)

Baccano! novel series is heading to its conclusion.

ANN updated to say that Ryohgo is working on the final book in the 1935 timeline rather than finishing the whole series yet.

Personally I'm quite surprised that Baccano! hasn't just finished as I was under the impression that Ryohgo would much rather write about the Durarara!! universe instead.

I wonder if it was more of a firmware version issue. They worked fine for me on my Sony BDSP1100 & my external Toshiba BD drive

Had problem myself with From The New World in LG Blu-ray writer/reader attached to my Mac where it took a long time to load and show on the desktop. But haven't tried the disc yet on my Oppo BDP-93 and see how it goes there.

A fixed complete BD collection would be welcomed

I tried it in a less than 6 month old PS4, a Phillips BD player and my Samsung BD drive, the latter of which struggled to even find a disc. I'm not buying that it was player based...
