The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Can't say I understand the whole volumes at stretch goals thing. Who wants the first volume of a manga and no subsequent volumes? Or worse, all but the final volume?

I guess the idea is that if they raise enough to get the first volume all of the existing bidders will be incentivised to raise their pledges to secure the rest. But yeah, it's a bit discouraging (to say the least) when a new campaign begins.

It's something like that that would put me off chipping in until all the volumes are secure, and if a lot of people have that mindset, it will be going nowhere fast...

I think Skip Beat! had that problem initially on IndieGoGo, it was set up so Pied Piper would keep any funds pledged, you just wouldn't get the rewards, which put a lot of people off...

Really pleased to see MHA get another season, I figured they wouldn't leave it where it is for long. I take it this is a season that'll air later rather than just continuing into Summer?

Libre Publishing have ended their relationship with Digital Manga, Inc.. This means DMI will lose the rights to ongoing series Finder, and other popular series like Kizuna.

Libre publishing have now commented on the termination, and it does not read well for Digital Manga, Inc.:
First of all, we would like to thank all the fans of our manga for their loyal support.
We were surprised by the recent press release from DMI regarding the ending of their agreement with Libre, and dismayed that they decided to make a business matter public in such an abrupt manner. The agreement was terminated some time ago under just cause due to a breach of contract, with DMI granted a sell-off period for any remaining stock.

Moving forward, we would like to reassure our English-language readers that we are actively working on plans so that they will be able to continue reading their favorite Libre series, including ongoing ones.

We will continue to make all efforts with our partners in good faith to ensure that the works of our creators are cared for and able to reach fans all over the world.

DMI's attempt to discredit their ex-partner went really well for them there. It's unusual for a JP company to retort like that too which makes DMI seem even worse...

Ah, DMI are DMP, had to look that up.

Can't 100% say I'm too fond of them, they have a small number of things I'm interested in, release slowly and in the cases of LN with questionable quality.

As you say Rui, very unusual to see a retort from a JP company, doesn't bode well for their future licence prospects imo.

If they are the bunch of clowns who screwed up the english release of Hidan No Aria light novels then they can burn in a sea of nice hellfire.

I really wanted that series in english and they kinda murdered the dog on that one...

What was wrong with the Hidan No Aria light novels? (I don't think they're on the LN list yet, I need to add them, but I should add a disclaimer too if there's problems with them.)

They released a couple of volumes digitally only (with a pretty poor translation/qc) and then stopped the releases. And sadly no-one is ever likely to licence rescue

Don't really care for the first LWA short so much so that I still haven't even unwrapped the LWA 2 BD that I got almost a year ago but people seem to be happy with this announcement, high of of Studio Triggers recent outings I assume. Good for them I guess.

Having seen both LWA shorts, I'm definitely up for a TV series! That's one of the better examples of Triggers work so I'm always happy to see more. :D

I thought the first one was quite charming, but it didn't leave enough of an impression on me to back the kickstarter. Still, I'm glad that Trigger are tackling something less fanservicey for a change. Also nice to see something else from the Mirai Project make it to TV.
