Weird. I wonder why. I mean, no other streaming service puts their stuff through the BBFC.
Amazon do as well. I think it's a case of the majors playing it especially safe. Nobody's going to go after Crunchyroll, so who care is they don't?

That's fair I suppose. It just seems like unnecessary costs. I think we as UK Anime fans especially know that BBFC costs aren't cheap.

@GolGotha Wow. I wonder how this will affect Omakase. Loot Crate as a brand is a lot more well known than Viewster at this point.

I'm not sure, but I think UK-based services can get in trouble with ATVOD (or possibly Ofcom) if they don't restrict their services properly. BBFC ratings are probably cheaper than creating your own in-house compliance team.

I suppose when you put it that way it makes sense. Honestly, I have no idea what the laws are about age ratings on streaming stuff.

Completely optional for non-pornographic stuff (and that doesn't have to go through the BBFC either)

Do you think that cost means anything to a company to a size of Amazon. Anyway it's a loss leader whilst they grow their streaming service.

I doubt they'll succeed, Amazon Prime epitomises the phrase "jack of all trades, master of none"...

Amazon also has an annoying habbit of being stupidly strict about where one gets to watch their content (and what people can watch service wise, such that SKY are locking them out on a software level and CR needs to be sideloaded), no desire whatsoever to just play ball with Google and Apple and (sorta important for anime in particular) a REALLY nasty habit of only proving dubs with not even hard of hearing subtitles.

I'd be honest, the moment I upgrade my somewhat dying HDTV to a smart TV I'll cancel my prime subscription and hurl my fire tv into a lake.

...

And then fish it out and hand it over to the appropriate authorities to dismantle and recycle.

When you do, pictures please. Or we'll all say it never happened.

I need to find a shallow enough lake to do that. Most of the ones near me have ducks in them and I respect them more than I do my Fire TV.

Like, one of my "go out and relax" activies is to take photos of them.

Crunchyroll apparently got hacked and some people have reported that their details have been stolen.

I've changed my password and so far nothing has been charged on my bank statement.

In response I've also changed my password and removed my card details on my PSN account because I wanted to do that at some point. Basically I'll be getting Point Cards from now on (i.e. buy £15 card then renew points and spend), PSN did get hacked at one point so yeah.

UPDATE:

Crunchyroll Twitter statement:
Update: We experienced a breach in a moderator's account. No credit card information or other passwords were accessible from this account. We are currently investigating the breach, and thank you for your patience and support. No action is necessary on your part at this time.

I have some sad news to bring up.

Voice actress Miyu Matsuki has passed away at the age of 38 due to an illness.

She was a quite notable actress whom have voiced many characters including:
- Anna Nishikinomiya in SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist
- Claire Rivelt in The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II (Sen no Kiseki II) (VG)
- Harumi Fujiyoshi in Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
- Hisui in Carnival Phantasm & Melty Blood (VG)
- Isumi Saginomiya in Hayate the Combat Butler
- Kū-ko in Nyaruko: Crawling with Love!
- Lailah in Tales of Zestiria (VG)
- Magical Sapphire in Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya
- Waka Kumon in Phantom Breaker (VG)
- Yoshinoya in Hidamari Sketch

She also performed theme songs for Love Love?, Zoku Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei, and Nyaruko: Crawling with Love!.

RIP
