The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

The first season of Stardust Crusaders is pretty underwhelming. Most of the Stand's have pretty boring abilities, although there are one or two good fights (Hanged Man). The second season is much better, with more unique Stand's and memorable moments. Hopefully you can stick through it, Buzz.

As for Part 4. It's an improvement over 3, and one of the top arcs in the series (along with 7). Still a lot more hype to come. :p

Yeah, I feel like the reaction to part 4 in particular was always going to be especially jubilant, as its one of the most popular ones - perhaps subsequent parts (at least until we get to Steel Ball Run) might not be quite such an occasion.

I'm halfway through the first season, because I made the mistake of watching the TV Movie versions first. I'm kinda bored of it now. I know I could just skip, but the anorak in me refuses to let me.

I say keep with it. I didn't really start to enjoy it until about half way through the 1st season myself, but if you're past the part with Tequila and you still find it boring, then I would just say it just isn't for you :)

A new Full Metal Panic anime, finally! IT'S ABOUT GOD DAMNED TIME FOLKS. Now my hesitant side kicks in. Will this be a continuation from where it left off, a new fumoffu, or will it be an adaptation of FMP Another which is based years later? Please be a continuation. I want Continuing on my Own and beyond animated. I need this

a) it was announced at a Fujimi Fantasia Bunko event.
b) there were some pictures of people celebrating a "season 3"

both of these suggest (but don't necessarily outright confirm) that it's a continuation of the canonical series.

It's not that I don't like it, I do. It's that I know what's going to happen, so I can't really be bothered to watch it.

The fact that I'm not as in love with it as everyone else is doesn't help matters, it feels like some big in-joke that I just don't get.

Yeah, i saw the pictures and screens a little while after i posted this and it showing off the ARX-8 Laevatein. So i'm pretty confident it's continuing the mainline story. Another is mainline, but it's based years after.

A report says that Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, the UN's special rapporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography, has called on Japan to ban manga featuring 'featuring "extreme" sexualised images of children'.

This sort of thing really annoys me because the terminology is so loose and it usually comes down to giving people the right to stamp out things they don't like/understand purely based on their personal preferences. Terms like "child-like" are very dangerously imprecise and open to interpretation.

It should be fairly simple, if you can't point to a specifc human child involved in the creation of the material then no children were harmed and you can't justify banning it. You could debate the mind melting effects of particular types of materials but that would affect the adults consuming the material, not children directly. Since there doesn't seem to be any conclusive evidence that "extreme" drawings cause people to become a threat to children, I really can't see a good reason to ban it.

There are still people that believe that all Anime is just cartoons for children. People taking that mistake as fact could easily then start to wonder why so much of the material in anime isn't suitable for children and start calling for a ban (rather than having the simple thought that maybe it's not actually all for children in the first place).

I know that this kind of ignorance is pretty common and that these reports deliberately use misleading and inflammatory (is that the right word?) language for attention but that itself is a pretty sad reflection on what passes for our society these days. Ignorance itself wouldn't really be so much of a problem if people took a more tolerant attitude and actually did some research on things they were concerned about rather than just assuming they already know all they need to. Of course, it wouldn't hurt to have good sources of clear and objective information that people could get access to.

I'm in total agreement with you on that one Smeelia. It's not harming anyone, why ban it? As you say, there could be potential psychological effects I suppose but at that point, it's only harming the person willing to partake in it.

I find it funny that the United Stations still think they have any real weight in the modern world; it's an antiquated organisation based on a fair outdated global status quo with little autonomous power anyway.

I'm surprised Aniplex are even letting them do a blu-ray in the first place. Who knows maybe they'll pull the stunt Warner Bros. did with Terraformars?

I was kind of expecting a delay on Zvezda. I haven't noticed the Blu-ray listed yet though, is it there now?

To be honest, I'm not really sure about buying a Kaze release in general but it doesn't look like there'll be a US Blu-ray option any time soon (and it'd cost a bit more if there was) so I might consider it if there aren't any major issues.

OreImo would be a huge pick up for MVM. No idea why they wouldn't announce it at MCM. Hopefully it comes to blu Ray too.

Honestly considering how season two goes I think the majority of existing fans have lost interest in Oreimo, so I'm not really surprised it wasn't announced at MCM (even though having another title would have looked better really).
