It's only the Season 2 OVAs that are bad really, Season 2 itself isn't bad. I'd certainly buy both.

I find season 2 is only any good up until episode 7 or so and then I lost interest, although I did watch it right through OVA's included because I'd come so far. I'd buy season 1 but not touching 2 really as it brings the series down a lot for me.

I own Aniplex of America's standard edition DVD release of season 1 and have been waiting for a standard release of season 2, so I might be tempted by MVM's release depending on the picture quality (Aniplex's is surprisingly amazing for a DVD).

On a wider picture, I do wonder whether OreImo is now a missed opportunity; that the peak of interest in the property has long gone; especially as the listing implies a DVD-only release.

DVD only will definitely harm sales - but I also think it's the kind of show that could sell reasonably well. Shows with potentially icky subject matter usually do...

I don't think I even made it to the OAVs. I bought the LE set for s1 then just dropped the series like a hot potato towards the end of s2; it was that bad in terms of what I was expecting from the first season. If I could travel back in time and retrospectively unpurchase s1 I would, but sadly I can't erase the knowledge that I bought it.

I think I summed it up perfectly in a phone conversation to a friend earlier: "Season one was an entertaining series about fraternal bonding with some naughty humour thrown in...then season two crossed the line".

The thing about Oreimo is that I really enjoyed the first season and it's OVAs, the second season started great then just got worse. The OVA finale just felt like Kurosuke just went with the Bad End:

On the plus side, there is a Happy End.

Going back to the UN envoy who was complaining about underage sex manga, there was an interview on the BBC World Service about this topic (about half-way in), where they talked to two people in Japan about the subject: a Japanese-to-English manga translator, and a woman who runs a charity campaigning against child abuse. Interesting to note that the later of the two blames lack of sex education rather than manga as to the problems of sexual exploitation in the country.

Well it was bound to happen, looks like an anime adaptation of My Hero Academia (also known as Boku no Academia) might be in the works from Toho.

The site 'HeroAca.com' was registered under Toho's name. Usually when these sort of news occurs, an anime announcement is brought up not long after.

The show's official twitter feed accidentally posted about it too...

People seem weirdly upset. Apparently there's a core of people who wanted it to be the next Naruto and are now upset it's happening too soon for it become a long-running series :? :?:

Honestly I think the age of the Shonen Jump long form series is basically dead with whatever's left being what's it. Bleach was the Isvalain that got it in the head.

I personally can't see why anybody would want that. Creatively all of those shows are basically dead anyway, with Hunter x Hunter being the notable recent exception. I mean, hell, most recent shows struggle to sustain 25 episodes without resorting to ridiculous filler (looking at you, Log Horizion).

I think shorter seasons are better it will help OPM for sure, AoT is a long shonen and it having years gap have made it bigger so i think doing spaced out seasons are better

I think the fact it has more than one season with a gap between disqualifies AoT from being a long-running Shonen series. The most recent long-running shonen series to launch is probably World Trigger. (And as much as I love WT, it shouldn't even have been a long-running show, Toei dropped the ball.)

Personally, I think the 24 episodes seasons with a gap between them format works better. I was surprised to see The Seven Deadly Sins take that route though, I'd pegged that as "the next Naruto"...

The only reason why OreImo is DVD only is because there are only DVD masters available since when AoA did the season one blu-ray release all they did was import the Japanese version and MVM isn't going to pay to make up their own masters since it'll most likely cost all their limbs and a few internal organs to do it.
