So, is Monster Musume actually any good? That promo told me literally nothing, except they are really pushing for teenage boy/manchild audience...

Do you really need to ask that question? :p Of course it isn't 'good' if when you say 'good' you mean good animation, good story, good characters, good writing, good pacing, good composition, good cinematography etc. Basically the standard every other medium is held accountable for when looked at critically . But then again if you hold anime up to that standard, most series aren't good :p

I haven't seen the show but by your comment about its demographic it doesn't sound like if someone who did like the show told you it was good you would be inclined to agree. I mean if you don't like Ecchi full stop it obviously wouldn't be good by your standards.

I haven't really seen a lot of ecchi, but I've been enjoying Prison School, and having caught up on that, I have been looking for something fun to watch.

But if you didn't see that promo, it was literally just 1:30 of comparisons between the TV versions of footage and the DVD/BD versions. No plot scenes, no set-up, just 90 seconds worth of nudity, set to somebody singing the word 'monster' over and over...

None of those metrics are important. By all of them (except maybe characters), Durarara!!x2 is an absolute trainwreck, does that mean I have been enjoying it any less than the first season? Hell no...

I think Monster Musume is quite popular at least partly because of the thought that goes into it's characters and world building, which is something you might not expect from a "fanservice" manga/anime.

I'd imagine you'd have to be at least "okay" with fanservice to enjoy it but it seems to have more than fanservice going for it. The fanservice itself also seems quite popular.

I haven't watched the show yet but I'll most likely get around to it at some point.

We clearly need to send more information on large breasts and how they work to Japan. I'm all for lewdness but the size and positioning of the nipples and the weighting is more often wrong than it is right.

Prison School isn't doing badly but but geez Monster Musume, up your game.

I regret not buying the Nausicaa and Totoro steelbooks now. I thought those initial four were going to be the beginning and the end of that particular experiment, but now two more of my favourites are getting steelbook releases. They'd look so much tidier on my shelf than the inconsistent mess of logos that characterise the spine art of Canal's regular Blu-ray releases.

I was thinking of starting watching Prison School but after seeing those images, I guess I will pass, way to much fanservice

Without that, is the series worth to watch anyway? lol
I'm reading the manga (first two-volume omnibus came out recently) and it's highly amusing. It combines the gloriously in-your-face fanservice of Highschool of the Dead with some deliciously dark humour. The story is completely batshit insane but at the same time strangely compelling.

You'd think that with all the porn Japan churns out, the animators would have plenty of reference material.

(Maybe NSFW? I'm tagging just in case.)
I think the area of most concern with regards to physics are the shots in which the guys' genitalia disappears, in Prison School. For guys that are so sex-obsessed you would have thought they'd actually have working genitalia...

Yup, basically what you wrote.

The MC isn't dense, the girls are typical harem type but all charming in their own way (Suu best girl), the Monster franchise is something different (at least to me) & it's interesting when a new Monster type pops up as the show gives you some background on the species.

Yeah, it's a show that mainly appeals to fans of harems, fanservice and ..those with a monster girl fetish. I'm not into any of those but I'm enjoying the show (and it's lore, I really like lore)

In regards to those uncensored shots, I've never really noticed the censoring, good job on that JC Staff.

You can thank me for those btw.

Last week I decided that they were obviously not doing anymore Ghibli steels so I started picking up the slipped amarays. Less than a week later, more steels.......:D

For those interested Princess Mononoke and Kiki's Delivery Service are getting steelbook releases. Zavvi exclusive.
After nearly 2years of waiting! I hope to God they match up! That's the make or break for me :p

You gotta have the amrays for the numbering. The steels are bonus art etc.

I'd expect a Spirited away steelbook at some point... the existence of the kiki steelbook makes me think we may get a lot more... Don't suppose UK sales numbers are published for all Ghibli Blu-Rays anywhere...? It sounds like zavvi have done a deal. Wouldn't surprise me if we got everything that sold more than kiki as a steelbook at some point... (possibly more)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you but do you mean to say that you think Kiki sold badly (relatively speaking)? I think it would be interesting to see which Ghibli films have sold the best. Presumably Spirited Away is top and I could imagine Totoro being second but I wonder what it's like after that.

I wonder if a Spirited Away steelbook would just be black with No Face's uhh... face on it.

I've heard quite a few people commenting that the anime seemed tamer than the manga, turns out they were mostly just being clever and sneaky.

For some reason I don't have any figures for Kiki to hand, but you're right, Spirited Away is by far and away the best Ghibli seller - by my count it's done about half a million copies to date, which pretty much makes it the bestselling anime title in the UK outright.

Howl's Moving Castle is second from what I've seen, at around 300,000, with Princess Mononoke and Totoro around 200,000. The rest have mostly done around 70k-100k.

I don't have UK sales numbers but I can post some Japanese sales numbers here:
