I don't like Black Bars either. If they were meant to be like that why do they release DVDs that play widescreen I.e. Cowboy Bebop Remix, it's plays Widescreen but the new Blu-rays are gonna be 4:3.

Each to their own though.

Remix is 4:3, it's not widescreen, unless you have your TV on zoom mode.

Here's some news which may be interesting for some.

Sunrise in talks with FUNimation & Sentai Filmworks over distribution on former Bandai Ent. titles
Some Interesting points from this:
- "Sunrise itself plans to release the titles, and is currently in talks with Sentai Filmworks and Funimation in deals to distribute them."
- Code Geass: Akito the Exiled will consist of four episodes in total.
- "Ozaki said Sunrise hopes to bring both Code Geass: Akito the Exiled and the original Geass series to America shortly."
- "The company also revealed that, while it isn’t official yet, they are negotiating the US rights to both Tiger & Bunny: The Beginning and Tiger & Bunny: The Rising with Viz Media."
- "According to the panelists, NIS America will announce the Blu-Ray edition of Love Live! in the near future."

A tweet on the same page states:
"SUNRISE will be releasing former Bandai Entertainment titles themselves. They'll be partnering with local companies: FUNi, Sentai, etc. everyone in the damn room wants COWBOY BEBOP blurays."

Madoka Magica movie screenings? Discussions are still in progress...
I asked that question =3. Jerome started off by telling me that if he told me, he'd have to kill me. If the microphone wasn't taken away from me, I would have said "Challenge Accepted".

Black bars, (or could be any colour, or graphic design actually), on the side of 4:3 productions on 16:9 widescreens are affectionately known as "curtains" inside the biz.

Soo... Sunrise titles look likely to end up with Funi or Sentai in the US and Anime Limited in the UK?

Wahahaha, sounds like it's a good day to live in the UK then.
I heartily concur. This country occasionally has its uses.

DMP has announced that they are going to start bring back print titles early, with two of their yaoi series, Ze and The Tyrant Falls in Love bringing out new volumes next week.

Section23 are releasing Elfen Lied on blu-ray in September..WITH THE OVA!

ALL OF MY MONEY - TAKE IT! TAKE IT ALL!

EDIT:
Here's a comparison between ADV's region 1 DVD and the Japanese blu-ray. Quite a noticeable improvement, especially considering the age of the show.

Nice, adding this to my list. Though is the OAV dubbed? seems unlikely unless they did it back then assuming they get the rights and it never actually happened?
They'll probably dub the OVA while they're sorting out the rest of the English audio track.

I hope they pull a HOTD drifts of the dead and put the OVA as a single
I doubt they will. Hasn't Elfen Lied been off the market for a while in the US? Besides, the HOTD DOTD DVD is only exclusive to Comic Con and UP1. I'll be rebuying this for the show on blu-ray.

I'm pretty sure Elfen Lied is still pretty easily available in the US. ADV are still operating over there.
