The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

I really hope Manga pull through and gets SAO out here at a price point that ers close to sanity (Like say, £30+-10 a cour? I mean I don't care what you put in a box set, you ain't getting away with charging £150 for seven episodes, that's goddamned highway robbery).

Sentai Licenses & New releases From ANN - The short Version

"North American anime licensing company Sentai Filmworks announced at its panel at Anime Boston on Saturday that it has licensed the Gatchaman, Di Gi Charat, and Godannar anime."

Gatchaman on BD/DVD, other two are DVD only.

New release news
"Sentai Filmworks revealed that it will release the first season of the AKB0048 television anime series on bilingual DVD and Blu-ray Disc in September. The company will also release the following titles in October: Hakuōki Reimeiroku on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, Campione! on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, and Kokoro Connect on DVD and Blu-ray Disc."

Kokoro Connect is the only one I have any interest in buying, but I haven't actually seen any of them.

Amazing news that Gatchaman is getting another chance on the market,i already own the ADV box sets so i wont be double dipping but great that people who missed it first time can finally pick up this piece of classic anime history, now if Gatchaman II and Gatchaman F(Fighter)can get a release i could die happy,if Sentai can,t do it i have faith in Discotek.

Is there any benefit to releasing such an old show as Gatchaman on blu ray?

Absolutely, it was shot on film after all. If it's been transferred and treated properly it should look stunning!

From expo (@ukanime)

26,000 copies of Dragon Ball Z sold so far across all volumes.
When will the UK see Ghost in the Shell: Arise? Talks are in progress at present.
More on the Blue Exorcist Definitive Edition now...This will be a two-part Blu-Ray release with English and Japanese audio. Subtitle-only DVDs will also be re-released. No plans for dubbed DVD release of Blue Exorcist at present, but it may happen depending on Blu-Ray release sales for the series.
More Fairy Tail coming to the UK? Still waiting for FUNimation to sign off on this, in talks about the movie as well.
Madoka Magica movie screenings? Discussions are still in progress...

Except for those black bars that they'll have to glue onto each side of the picture for the BD release.

What's wrong with that? If it was made in 4:3 then it should be presented in 4:3.

Exactly, this is the same crap I hear from Trekkies who cry that the ST TNG BD sets are not in widescreen. It was never meant to be in widescreen but for some reason because it's on BD it has to be in widescreen...non-anime related I know but I had to use that as an example

I don't like Black Bars either. If they were meant to be like that why do they release DVDs that play widescreen I.e. Cowboy Bebop Remix, it's plays Widescreen but the new Blu-rays are gonna be 4:3.

Each to their own though.
