Two words: Not Surprised.

Though you have to admit the government's in a bit of a bind over the whole "juvenile delinquency" thing. How do you deal with parents who aren't taking responsibility for their children? It's either something like this or take the kids into care... Or be social Darwinist about it and just turn our backs, leaving them to their fate.

So much for cheering up this thread Maltos. Nice to see you back though Voddas.

Edit: It's worth mentioning the original article has now disappeared, making me wonder if this wasn't just a bit of tabloid scaremongering after all...

Tabloid scaremongering? That wouldn't suprise me either. Feeding off peoples fears and emotions is their job. Obviously got us talking so it works like.

Good to be back ayase. Been too busy for my own life recently. Things are slowly beggining to settle down now like.
Thank god!

EDIT: Wow... CG got banned? How can this thread of light hearted banter result in such a flame war? It looks like I've missed a few things while I've been away.

I don't know, my life gets busy and this thread falls apart :p Good afternoon everyone just thought i would offer a quick update of things, maybe to offer a reason as to why i've not been here as often as say...start of summer. Firstly my dad was took voltuntary redundancy meaning he's been home everyday and hogging the main computer, to counter this i've been going out to places with my girlfriend. That actually pretty nicely moves me onto point 2: we've been offered a house so i've been busy sorting my room out (no date yet on when we will be in there as stuff is still being done to it) plus generally getting things sorted.

Still i won't disappear completely, i mean i'm not that easy to get rid of ;)

Hopefully now we can restore this thread to its old days before the e-drama took place. A shame there's quite a few who hate this thread.

I've just been reading what was a great article on IGN, to get a screenshot and spoiler of the end of the game (Final Fantasy VII).

I'm pissed to say the least :(

I Black... I guess you've been in a similar boat to I. Seems you've at least popped your head in though. I crave the days of million thread. No one bothered us there untill.... I guess they got jealouse...
*shrugs*

EDIT: You not completed FFVII yet then Spyro? Unlucky.

*goes out for lunch*

When you say end of the game are you talking about the final Sephiroth v Cloud fight or Areith (or is it Aries?) dying? also if you didn't know that last part then there is a statue of limitations on these kind of things :p

Still how are you finding the relic of gaming history?

Just you wait, cameras will be everywhere in no time. Privacy has disappeared in this country, heck it wouldn't surprise me if they got rid of the whole "private lives" thing, since they don't trust us people anymore.

Yeah ok thats an exaggeration, but sometimes it makes you wonder.

And when we get sick of it and want to move away, it'll be like in the Prisoner.

"We just want to know WHY you're moving?"

(In the Prisoner, it's resigning, not moving. Then ge gets gassed and taken to a secret island off'a the maps, and so on.)

Well guys its been real, but i'm going to head off now, got a lot to do and little time to do it in (plus my dad is bugging me for use of the laptop since the main computer's power unit died on us)

So later guys and have fun with FF7 spyro :p don't worry the end of the game was to be expected really

I'll try to get back on tonight at some point

...so... are select citizens going to get this or...?
Hahaha, they've got another thing coming if they think they can install CCTV cameras in my house.

I am so moving.

The idea seems to be for families where the parents aren't taking their responsibilities seriously, or the kids are running riot iisan. I don't like our descent into the world of Nineteen Eighty-Four, but it's not an easy problem to deal with. If you lock the parents up or take the kids away then that's pretty terrible too. Not that I want to condone it however, as a couple more terrorist attacks and doubtless they'll want to roll it out across the board "just in case". Remember when CCTV cameras were just for people to protect their property? Another "Sentinel" as I like to call them (a camera on twenty foot high post) has just gone up in our town centre to watch over everyone... How I really do hate them.

On a lighter note: Yes! Japanese scientists can now grow us new teeth from stem cells. 'Bout time.

I'm with this guy on this...
I think that's giving Huxley a little too much credit for predicting the present, and not giving Orwell enough. What about the surviellance society and rule through fear? What about making people criminals before they have commited a crime? There was other stuff in Brave New World too such as destroying individuality through genetic pre-destination and subliminal programming. People were happy in Brave New world, but they weren't free. And you couldn't enslave everyone peacefully, even with pleasure.

People want to live a life of pleasure and distractions void of meaning? Fine. Let them. That's their choice and as that cartoon points out, a lot of them already do. But it's those of us who don't want to, who actually think independantly and question authority who are more concerned by the Nineteen Eighty-Four scenario than the Brave New World scenario, because in order to really have a world like that of Brave New World you would first need to suppress anyone who would fight against such a fate, and for that you would need a world like Nineteen Eighty-Four first.

I think Huxley was pointing out that to much over indulgence makes people lazy, hopeless and pitifull.
I doubt Brave New World scenario is ideally relistic, it's too liberal

I see the status quo as resembling bits of both authors' visions. Of course, us folk with alternative tastes will at least be free from some of the perils of Huxley's predictions.

Won't we?
