Oh yeah, i know haha, i just can't make up my mind between that or the LE set - the LE set is in Amazon JP also (expensive mind you) but idk whether to go for more content or something that can sit nicely on my shelf. Still can't believe AoA have the cheek to do an import release of the SE for a lot more money that what people can get it for on Amazon JP, i guess they're banking on fans in the US not knowing it's the same set (i swear the import isn't even coming with a translation book or anything extra?)

Interesting to see which ones come in resealable packaging, I was actually wondering about that. I don't own JP releases but it seems like most (if not all) of them do. Seems kind of random on the AoA side.

To be fair I'm not sure there's actually anything worth translating in the booklets, it's mostly illustrations and technical specs, no interviews or anything like that. Unboxing. I swear I'm not sponsored
No idea why they charge that much though, especially since it seems US folks don't have to add taxes on top of the price when importing.

Yeah so it's even cheaper for the US fans! Wow, AoA really is an exemplar of capitalism loool.

Spreadsheet update - I've added the Suggested Retail Prices ($) to each Aniplex set that was available.

You can check out the spreadsheet here.

Since this is my thread I'll add my unboxings for the Aniplex sets I own on the main post, might as well given I've covered each angle of the set (minus the booklet generally due to potential spoilers or complex shots).

SOLD OUT (ON ANIMESHUMI & RIGHTSTUF) - Bakemonogatari - Complete Box Set Limited Edition

Bakomono.jpg

As mentioned a few posts back, Rightstuf still have no stock for the Limited Edition of Bakemonogatari and neither does Animeshumi. If you are still keen on going after this set then I suggest you get one as soon as possible. It's been out since November 2012 so don't be surprised if it doesn't receive a reprint.

Alternative sites to get the set (if available):
Robert's Anime Corner Store
United Publications (USA)

I shall order mine from RACS at my next payday me thinks - will probably pick up a few of the next sets in the release chronology from UP1USA while I'm at it.

Both sites I've listed are now sold out. Strange that Aniplex haven't announced it on their Facebook page like they did with Fate/Zero Box 1 and Sword Art Online Box 3.

If you're wondering whether there's a chance they'll release it again, well I'm certain it's fairly likely. Monogatari has been a huge hit for them and it's clear that the sales are good considering Koimonogatari is on the Top 10 Best Sellers of 2015 for Rightstuf. I imagine that Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari will be re-released as a standard edition in a similar fashion to Durarara!! with the same discs and cases but with a cardboard box and wrap-around sleeve for info. No Booklet and Chipboard whatsoever.

Robert's Anime Corner Store have commented on the Bakemonogatari set via their latest newsletter:
Folks came onto the store last weekend in a mad rush and bought up all our remaining inventory of AniPlex's Bakemonogatari boxed set. Shortly after we marked it sold out my inbox started filling up with requests wondering when/if we were going to get more. Now this set has been on the market for three years, and I have to admit I find the 'last minute' syndrome in our community fascinating. Folks, who have not up to that point pulled the trigger on a release that's been available for a long time, suddenly find themselves feeling an insatiable desire to own something only once they find out it's no longer available. Anyway, we are checking with AniPlex on this to see if they are planning a repress and I'll let you know once we hear back from them.

I've only been buying Anime since October 2014 and importing since April-May of this year but I guess I fall in this category, I saw from posts etc that it had been around a while so I should have gone for it first - guess i just have to keep my fingers crossed that it will get a re-print. Although if there is one, I think what have said previously, NormanicGrav will probably be the case - we'll get a priced-down re-release/SE version

I've heard no complaints about MVM's release, and it's bound to be a lot cheaper. So why not just get that instead of an SE re-release? This is what baffles me most about Aniplex of America customers, half of them seem to be buying their products just for the sake of it...

Nisemonogatari and Nekomonogatari White seem to have a few lines worth of subtitling errors each, for the difference in price, I can stomach that and produce my own bastardised version of the disc if it bothers me too much.

I can't speak for MVM's complete Bakemonogatari collection they put out later, but the packaging of their original part 1 and 2 releases is awful. The artwork is so low resolution you can actually see pixellation on the images and some of the text. The blurb text on the back is also horribly formatted: random justification, with some paragraphs centred, with others aligned more to the left, as well as the size and boldness of the font changing from one line to the next.

That, and both discs of their Nisemonogatari complete collection being labelled as disc 1 is what prompted me to start importing the Aniplex USA Monogatari releases.

As someone who only got into anime and starting collecting anime blu-ray relatively recently, I don't really want to buy anything put out by MVM because from my limited experience, they don't put any care whatsoever into their releases.

Of course, if all you care about is the actual content of the discs, then that doesn't matter too much. But I buy physical because I like to have a collection, I care about the tangible object itself as well as what shows up on my screen.

That's pretty much one of the reasons why I go for the Aniplex versions for Monogatari. The covers aren't the best and they're very inconsistent on placement (aside from the title).

The other reason I went for the Aniplex release is because Monogatari is a unique series (by that I mean dozens of subtitles) and I wanted to get the best release that has zero problems so I imported. I have no regrets.

Sounds like you got a bodged copy, the few MVM release I've seen have all be fine artwork wise, and the unusual formatting sounds like a design choice to me. And quite frankly, if you stopped buying a distributors releases because of mistakes on their packaging, I don't think you'd have any distributors left to buy from.

I don't think the two "Disc 1"s is a result of carelessness. I'm fairly certain they were originally intended for use in the Part 1 and Part 2 releases, where they would function as the first disc in each release. Chances are they were just using up a print run, and I'm certainly not going to criticise a small indie distributor putting out an incredibly niche title for not pissing away money...

I can confirm that. IIRC, the Hanabee releases, which the MVM release is ported from, are DVD and BD combos. The Blu Rays are Disc 1 in the combo pack but MVM didn't do a combo pack and since the discs are from the volume releases they are both Disc 1 of their respective volume. This isn't even consistant in the Hanabe release as the Nekomonogatari: Kuro release has the Disc labeled as Disc 2 despite being a single disc release meaning in the Hanabee release the DVD was Disc 1.

Quite frankly as long as the artwork doesn't make me look like a paedophile (as Sentai seem hellbent on doing with some of their titles), I'm not that bothered.

I see your point, but quite frankly I can't afford Aniplex's releases, and I can deal with dropped subtitles during an episode preview or one line missing. I forgot about the weirdly positioned subtitles, when I said I could correct this disc myself. I'm sure there's a way to do it, I'm just not 100% certain how to do it myself...
