Macross II isn't English-friendly in the slightest so I'm going to have to improvise there!
I'm not really sure why there's been no challenge to HG's ridiculous claims, but if it were me I'd think laterally, and start putting English sub tracks and even audio tracks on their releases. Anyone can then import them and there's chuff-all that HG could do about it. Although that probably wouldn't stop them from trying.
Such a shame that Carl Macek's vision of bringing anime to a wider audience ended up closing off one of the industry's greatest franchises to the rest of the world outside of Japan.
I'm sure something could probably be worked out but there's far too much water under the bridge at this point.
