Revenge of the Simulwatch!

People aren't really going to vote for something they don't know if they'll like. I know all the shows I votes for, for example, are shows I've already seen as none of the shows on that list are on my PTW pile I don't think.

Just because you've never heard of its name doesn't mean it's not right up your alley though, what I meant is that I hope people at least look it up on MAL or something.

Well, there's some room for curiosity or for people talking up the shows they'd like to see I suppose. I guess you're right that most people would tend to vote for something they've at least heard of though.

What does PTW stand for by the way? I'm guessing it's something "To Watch", Priority maybe?

Voted.

Aww, no Bubblegum Crisis? I guess I'll end up watching it on my own.

I'd have been up for it (as, I'd have thought, would ayase), but I guess it was always going to be a more niche option. If you're posting about it as you go along, I'd be interested to know what you make of it anyway.

I guess the MCM stuff is probably helping to build the hype. I'm up for it anyway, as long as we're waiting for the Blu-ray release first (well, technically that isn't necessary but I think I'd prefer it). It'd be a shame if it's a long delay though. We could always watch Non Non Biyori to tide us over.

Once the results are in, it might be worth getting a list of people who voted but not for the winner. It may turn out that enough people are left over (and voted for the same show) to run two threads. When does the poll end anyway? I guess this might be a busy weekend for some (though it does look like there have been a fair few votes already).

I'll probably post my thoughts on Bubblegum Crisis in the relevant threads, though I might not stick to one episode at a time. That was basically the original plan anyway, just put it out there since it was possible that some other people had been picking it up recently with the UK delivery option that avoids the risk of unexpected charges.

Can we not do Non Non Biyori? Everything I've heard about it sounds like you have to be a very specific person in a very specific mood to get it, and I don't think I'm that person.

Fair enough, but perhaps a show that you have to be 'in the mood' for isn't the best show to force yourself to watch an episode of daily?

But perhaps Smeelia has stumbled across something in that most of the suggestions seem to be 'of the same mould'. If it wasn't 99 episodes, I'd have suggested Space Brothers. Having thought about it, perhaps Haikyu!! would be a reasonable suggestion for something different with broad appeal.

I think a fair few people here have said they really like it, enough to justify a simulwatch, I'm not sure, but I think it's a show everyone should try. It's absolutely fantastic. I'm also not sure where you're coming from with the mood thing. I watched about 3 or 4 every day and got through it fast, I don't think mood ever entered the equation.

I have heard really positive things about the show, but it's always been commented upon about how specific the show is and how it's something you will either get, be in the mood for and love or will absolute hate.

Personally, if I was going to watch a polarising series, I'd watch one that sounded more exciting...

It boils down to whether or not you like Slice of Life shows or not. It's not polarising. If a show was polarising because people who watched a show in a genre they don't like watched it, every show would be polarising.

No. I've heard comments from people that love the show, but still think it would annoy people.

Anyway, if we're going to do weird shows people love but completely baffle me, why not do Gatchaman Crowds? At least we'd have something to talk about.

I don't see that at all myself or have I heard that from others. If you like SoL shows then there isn't nothing to really dislike about NNB. Again, if you don't like Slice of Life shows then you might find it annoying or whatever. In terms of it's genre, it's one of the most universally praised I've seen.

The comments seemed to be aimed more generally than at slice of life fans, so perhaps it was a comment on the genre.

To be honest, the genre baffles me, what could be so exciting about watching other people basically do nothing?

I liked lucky star that was the ultimate nothing anime and I like it.

But I want more than just nothing I want a intense anime... like attack on titan... yes I haven't seen it yet but I will do soon as season 2 comes around

It's not meant to be exciting. It is a hard genre to explain the appeal of if I'm being honest. I'm a huge SoL fan myself, K-On, Kinmoza and Non Non Biyori are some of my favourite shows. They have really enjoyable, cute characters and are generally quite funny and entertaining to watch. They don't have huge stories or complex characters but they are just plain enjoyable. If a show is really good, you find yourself getting really attached to the characters to a point where you feel genuinely sad because the show ends. K-On is a prime example. The closest I've ever come to crying at any media is the end of K-On Season 2 because you feel like you've watched the characters and their friendship grow before your eyes and you become so attached that by the time it ends, it's almost like saying goodbye to friends, as sad as that sounds. The fact that these character's lives go on and you won't see any more of them is kind of heartbreaking. I was in your shoes once, I dismissed slice of life as boring. Then I tried it, and it's easily one of my favourite genres.

Sol is like a brake from real life which makes it relaxing to watch people do nothing but do everyday stuff but in a cute way....... but I want more variety ... with

Complex characters
Gorgeous animation
Beautiful music
Over the top stories
Funny

That sort of stuff in my anime
