Revenge of the Simulwatch!

I didn't vote for Baccano because I think it benefits from watching the episodes back to back rather than one per day, so if someone who did wants to step up and arrange the simulwatch now would probably be a good time to do so (because of AL's release).
http://strawpoll.me/5811858/r

A bit late I suppose, but I voted. It's a shame Shin Sekai Yori/From the New World didn't win, way more people should watch that show than likely have.

Well if none of the Baccano voters want to do this we may as well skip it and do Outlaw Star or Shin Sekai Yori :p
Plus, it's been a few weeks since AL's Baccano release so some of the people who voted for it may have already watched it.

I'd be up for doing Outlaw Star or From the New World. I'm planning to re-watch Baccano soon but don't think i could stick to 1 episode a day, it's the kind of show that you can binge watch in a couple days.

Sadly I would say it's probably worth waiting a little longer - starting now would mean flowing over Christmas and New Year's, and it's hard enough to keep people on schedule anyway!

I'd still be up for those (I still haven't watched Baccano! either), though I'm too lazy to start a thread or anything. I haven't really been watching enough recently so having a particular reason might help (though I'm hoping the holidays help too).

Would folks be interested in doing another simulwatch? Of course all of its parameters would be up for discussion—though I assume the one episode a day rythm is a given. I was going to make a new thread but thanks to the merger we got this one back... Anyway, I figure Prof is probably tired of having to be the instigator for anything to actually happen and as such I'll take over the reins for this round. If someone else wants to lead the way I won't object though...
Obviously none of the following is enforced and it becomes moot anyway if we all agree on a show, but here are some general guidelines:
-Ideally not too recent, if people are less likely to have seen it not too long ago (or at all), I believe a higher turnout will ensue.
-Easily accessible, preferably streaming. Grav's thread is a helpful resource for this.

Anyway I'll be taking suggestions for a while and then just throw them in a multiple-choice poll so we can decide the Greek way.

Some shows I'd want to do but aren't streaming in the UK: Eva, Lain, Haibane Renmei, Kino's Journey, Casshern Sins.
I guess we could consider them if enough people actually want that though.

Some of my suggestions from the previous simulwatch (I haven't seen all of them so kind of goind out on a limb there):
Gankutsuou (2004) | Viewster
Gankutsuou is an anime loosely based on the novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. It tells the story of Albert Morcerf, a young aristocrat who happens to befriend a wealthy nobleman, The Count of Monte Cristo, through a series of bizarre events. Fascinated by the Count's charm, Albert invites him to meet his friends and family, all of whom happen to be part of the upper class society of Paris, France. Unfortunately, little does Albert realize that the Count has ulterior motives in mind.
Texhnolyze (2003) | Funimation YouTube (All Available)
In a man-made underground society, descendants of a banished generation vie for control of the crumbling city of Lux. Ichise, an orphan turned prize fighter, loses a leg and an arm to satisfy an enraged fight promoter. On the brink of death he is taken in by a young woman doctor and used as a guinea pig for the next evolution of Texhnolyze. With his new limbs, Ichise is taken under the wing of Oonishi, a powerful leader of Organ, an organization with some hold on Lux. As Ichise is drawn deeper into a war for territorial control of the city, he learns of his possible future from the young girl prophet Ran, who guides him from the shadows in his darkest times. With the explosion of the warfare, Ichise must uncover the truth about Lux and fight for his survival as he realizes his destiny.
The Vision of Escaflowne (1996) | Viewster
High school student Hitomi is transported from Earth to the magical world of Gaea, where she meets boy prince Van Fanel, and is caught up in his quest to unite the countries of Gaea against the ominous Zaibach empire. On the way, she discovers an hidden ability and strives to unravel layers of mystery surrounding Van, his past, and the giant machine known as Escaflowne.
Eden of the East | Funimation
On November 22, 2010, Japan was hit by missile strikes, a terrorist act that fortunately did not harm anyone, becoming known as "Careless Monday." Quickly forgotten, society goes on about their lives as normal.

During her graduation trip to America three months later, friendly college student Saki Morimi's life is forever changed when she finds herself saved from unexpected trouble by Akira Takizawa. Takizawa is cheerful, but odd in many ways—he is stark naked and suffers from amnesia, believing himself to be a terrorist. In addition, he possesses a strange cell phone loaded with 8.2 billion yen in digital cash.

Despite Takizawa's suspicious traits, Saki quickly befriends the enigmatic young man. However, unbeknownst to her, this is the beginning of a thrilling death game involving money, cell phones, and the salvation of the world. Higashi no Eden chronicles Saki's struggle to unravel the mysteries behind her savior, while Takizawa himself battles other individuals armed with similar cell phones and returning memories which reveal his possible connection to the event from months ago.
Gunslinger Girl (2003) | Funimation - Netflix - Viewster
In the heart of Italy, the Social Welfare Agency rescues young girls from hospital beds and gives them a second chance at life using the latest in cybernetic advancements. With their artificially enhanced bodies, the girls are brainwashed and trained as assassins to carry out the dirty work of the Italian Government. Despite all the modifications, they are still just children at heart, struggling for recognition from those they love, even knowing the love they feel is manufactured. This tragic tale unfolds as these girls grapple with their emotions in an agency that treats them as nothing but ruthless killers.

I'll add that Escaflowne and Eden of the East both have an upcoming release from AL so I guess this could be a good opportunity to watch and see if you like them.

Feel free to suggest anything you think might be worth a shot.

Some nice suggestions here, I'll be up for trying to join in with my first site simulwatch. If however Escaflowne is chosen I'll have to pass as I'm waiting for the AL release before I rewatch it.

If I was to pick from the options you have suggested I would pick Texhnolyze, I picked it up in deal of the week years ago and couldn't get into it at the time. Now might be the time to try again.

I'd like to finally get involved in one of these.

My suggestion would be last year's Rampo Kitan -Game of Laplace-. It's recent, but was simulcast on Animax UK so nobody saw it (except seemingly me and @Rui). It's now available on Funimation Now, so the chances of people being able to watch it have improved ever so slightly. :p I think it would be an interesting choice given it's based on a series of novels and short stories by Edogawa Ranpo. The same novels and stories are being used as source for TRICKSTER, which starts in October and based on the promotional material released so far will seemingly take a vastly different approach. Edogawa Ranpo and his work also loosely inspired the detective of the same name who appears in Crunchyroll's Bungo Stray Dogs (which also returns in October).

I should probably say in advance though that the show takes an unusual tone and is probably highly polarising, and I do not expect everyone to enjoy it, but I think some of it might trigger some interesting discussions about Japanese society, culture and politics.

I'd also love to be able to join in one of these for once. I'm pretty sure only two have occurred since I joined up, Outlaw Star and Nadia, and I wasn't too fussed on watching either of those. I can't exactly say I have a suggestion myself, going by simulwatches past, my tastes don't exactly align with that ends up going forward, but I'll see how it goes.

Escaflowne & Eden of the East would be best done once the AL sets have been released and since most of us have pre-ordered Escaflowne that's a ideal candidate for December/January.

There's always Baccano which many suggested before .

I think assuming most people preordered is a bit of a leap, unless I'm mistaken.

I wasn't sure about Eden of the East, AL's release won't include the films, and Manga's sets seem to slowly be going OOP. It might prove expensive, if people aren't able to stream them.

I'd be up for a simulwatch.

Of the initial streaming suggestions, Gankutsuou, Eden of the East or Gunslinger Girl would be fine. I haven't seen any of those before. I haven't seen Escaflowne either but I'd probably prefer to wait for the new release before watching it (although I'd maybe join in anyway if it's chosen).

Haibane Renmei and Kino's Journey are the only two of those non-streaming options that I have, both would be fine with me (though I've seen both).

I would be interested in Rampo Kitan. I haven't tried FunimationNow yet so I should be able to get a free trial, although I'm slightly hesitant to sign up if they're still having issues with their billing and such. Still, I do think it could make for an interesting simulwatch and I'd probably not get around to watching it if left to myself.

I ended up watching Baccano! myself a little while ago so I wouldn't be too keen to rewatch it so soon.

I think there's a pretty good chance you'd at least like Haibane Renmei, it has elements of slice of life shows similar to those you'd generally like and it's also one of those shows that isn't necessarily what it first appears to be. Harder to say for the rest (especially since I haven't seen several of them) but I suppose it doesn't hurt to try new things sometimes (well, maybe sometimes it does).

I'm probably down for whatever - the only one that doesn't really interest me that much is Game of Lapdance, but I'd at least watch an episode or two to see what it's like. We actually did Haibane Renmei as a simulwatch once before, but there's no reason not to do it again, if it's what people are interested in.

I'd say I'm interested, but I'd probably fall behind anyway so probably shouldn't be suggesting things lol if you pick something and it's something I'd like to watch then I'll join in.

I've never actually taken part in the simulwatch here despite being around since '11 but I would happy enough to take part.

From the initial list I will put my vote forward for Eden of the East, been meaning to watch it again at some point and even without the movies would make for a decent choice, also would go with Gunslinger Girl. Non-Streaming I'll echo a vote for Kino's Journey.

You're right, my reasoning was that watching them beforehand might help help some people decide whether they're interested in a fancy edition or not, but I guess there's no harm in waiting until their release.

Yeah it gathered the most votes during the previous poll but it has since expired from Funi's YouTube, unfortunately.

If everyone here watched Texhnolyze, I'd love to see the fallout from afar whilst eating some popcorn. Such an amazing show.

I keep wanting to post something impolite by way of disagreeing with this post. Instead, I think I'll suffer through a re-watch and post a review on my Youtube channel. It's one of those shows like Gasaraki, where I can't for the life of me understand what anyone sees in it.
