Certainly true. Plus, with streaming options being fairly common now it's easier to limit your physical collection to things that you really want (though maybe still not easy for those of us with hoarder tendencies).
 
Certainly agree with owly on the Quality > Quantity thing. Give it a few years and you too may get to experience the joys of running out of space.
For comparison sake this is my collection from Oct 2012. It must have been nice not having to worry about having more than a single shelf. I have stuff filling my wardrobe and drawers now too!
 
My collection is rather small in comparison to many of the users on here, but i'm not too bothered with that, i'm mostly happy with what i've got :)

I will admit to being rather envious of some peoples collections at times, but then we can't have everything we want at times, I have bills to pay and am saving for a mortgage deposit, so limiting my spending is a must :) (plus I have a nasty habit of selling things off to fund new purchases, so alot of the rarer stuff always seems to be moved on)

And that's the most important observation you can make :) As long as your happy with your own collection there's no need to be jealous of some other collections.

In fact i will post some photos of my collection after the weekend, i'm in the middle of re-organising stuff, so that i'll have shelves to spare for the foreseeable future. See that the last time, and actually the first time ever here, i've posted photos of my collection dates back from January, so if i keep a regime of a six-month update it's overdue by now.
