Just One Piece for me out of that lot since I'm holding the lack of a stream for Daimidaler against the universe.

Haven't seen Daimidaler but I'm very tempted to hear the English dub, especially with those... penguins.

That's a pretty underwhelming December slate from Funi. I'm bound to get Fairy Tail at some point but there's nothing else I'm interested in.
I do have to wonder why Funi are even bothering to release a DVD only LE, let alone a DVD release on it's own.

Also SRP £35 means it will cost about £25 per volume. While I don't mind paying that for a 2 cour show, 4 cours at that price seems a tad bit much for me although I'm sure that if the video quality was decent that it would be worth it.

If this were a long running shonen series It'd be understandable to not want to pay that for every instalment. But this is GITS SAC, if your willing to buy 1 or 2 cours of a good show for £25, paying £25 x 4 for SAC shouldn't be an issue, your getting a great show and 4 cours worth to boot.
It's more the idea of putting down £100 to get a series although it's all relevant.

My opinion on this:

I think the crux of this is that there comes a point where interested parties simply back away and say 'this product is not worth the asking price'. And at that point, the number of episodes, extra features and details of the release plan become moot.

'But this is GITS: SAC' ideally SHOULD be a persuasive argument. But it isn't. Because the DVD box sets of both complete series, which can also be had for less than £20, are also GITS: SAC. So the proposed 4 volume set and £60 price difference are going to be immediate and prohibitive sticking points for anyone who wants the show and isn't picky about formats. Or isn't on a massive disposable income.

I wonder how many people that routinely buy Blu-rays would be put off, £25 is pretty standard for a season/part set with a comparable number of episodes. Pretty much everything is releasing around that price these days, so it's not like you'd actually be paying any more than picking up four random shows (well, maybe a little more in some cases). I don't know how realistic it would be to get a release at that kind of RRP but I don't think it would sell too badly. I don't think there'd be a need for a DVD release to go with it, though I'd be interested to know if that's seen as necessary for justifying licensing costs and such (especially for Anime Limited, who seem to be the most willing to bet on Blu-ray releases).

There's some argument for making a new DVD release too, I suppose. The old Manga release isn't the best (not that it's terrible either), although I doubt that alone would encourage people to pick up a newer version (especially since many wouldn't realise until it's too late).

I'd certainly be willing to pay £100-£150 for both seasons of GITS: SAC on Blu-ray. I'd probably be willing to go a bit higher, even (just give me warning so I can save up). It seems like it could be a candidate for an Ultimate Edition, although I don't know if it'd be possible to get the Solid State Society movie in there (I'm not sure that'd be a problem but I guess it would be a nice bonus if they could get it).

Just to compare, the FMP Ultimate Edition will have 50 episodes (including the OVA) while GITS: SAC totals to 52 (on a related note, I'm assuming that getting 13 episodes rather than 12 for £25 wouldn't make a big difference to most people).

I wonder if a lot of the people who are hesitant would really be willing to pass up on the opportunity to get the sets for £25 (or even less at a later point). I think it probably sounds worse until you're confronted with the reality, it'd be a really good deal. I do think that can be an issue with asking people for their opinions on these things, there are probably a lot of people who'd be willing to pay more than they'd like to admit (maybe more than they realise even). Not that assuming you know what people want is necessarily a good idea either, I guess it's always going to be a tough thing to judge exactly what the demand would be.

I do wonder if having to deal with Manga to release the show would be a sticking point for Anime Limited and/or others. It's a bit of extra work and probably some extra cost, plus who knows how reasonable they'll be. I guess it might even be tough to find the right person to negotiate with at this point, though I'd imagine industry people would probably have a better idea where to start.

Just to be depressing, there's one thing people haven't necessarily thought about here. If there's even the slightest hint of ambiguity in the Manga UK sale contract, this series could be wrapped up in a Macross-esque legal shitstorm.

Depending on how Manga was structured we might soon discover Starz think they're on the Ghost in the Shell production committee when actually it's Manga UK or vice versa. Starz are a big enough company to get the paperwork done properly, but if there's even a slight mistake it's possible the series could be done for a very long time in the West. However, given the way entertainment lawyers work these days, I'd be very surprised if something like that were to happen again.

Seems like a pretty average slice of life moe show - no doubt it'll be sub only. Stuff like this seems to be Sentai's bread and butter these days.

I don't think that's an unfair description really, although I did like the show quite a bit. It wouldn't surprise me if I rate it higher than most but it had a few aspects that appealed to me and I felt made it stand out. It's the kind of show that could maybe have done more with a second season but it's possible that it would have chosen not to and just had more of the same instead (though I'm not sure I'd have minded that).

I suppose it's possible that the show is actually just better than you might expect, I know it exceeded my expectations but then I guess most people weren't expecting a lot.

While "idols" are kind of involved, I don't think it's really an idol show so it's probably better watched as a more general slice of life thing. There are a couple of songs but they're not really the point.

I thought Locodol was ok, even with my lack of interest in cutesy slice of life. Probably not going to buy it though.

Haha!

Hadn't they announced this one already? Or was it one of the Australian companies that had?

But yeah, in all seriousness, Hanayamata is great.

A coincidence but I was really interested in watching the recent Sinbad film that Nippon Animation released, I had no idea that the film already came out since I was really looking forward to it. The art for the film looks real nice and the character designs are right up my alley, which makes sense since Yoshiharu Sato is the Chief Animation Director and Character Designer. I doubt that the film will hold a candle to the various WMT works which this resembles visually, but the art sure elicits the same feelings I get when watching them :)

The coincidence is that apparently a sequel is out on January 16th 2016 and was just announced. Link to the trailer: シンドバッド 魔法のランプと動く島

While it had an interesting design, it's not something I would go and buy.

UPDATE: Noein has been delayed to January 12th 2016.
