The Japanese Blu-ray release of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is getting re-released again with the same contents and audio/video options.

The set still contains the English dub.

Both 1st Gig and 2nd Gig are set for December 24th 2015.

Season 1 (42,000 Yen SRP)
Season 2 (42,000 Yen SRP)

Oh, I saw these on Amazon JP for a while but it's way cheaper to get the volumes for SAC and 2nd GIG - is there much more english friendly content with the BD Box releases?

Why do they do this? If they're gonna put the English dub can't they put the subs as well? I think that's the case for FMP too.

I remember there was definitely a point when Manga out it out in Twitter to see if anyone was interested in a UK BR release of SAC.

I think Jerome M was asked about it on twitter the other month, and said it wouldn't be worth it for Manga UK, but he personally hoped Anime Ltd. would sub-licence it off them and do a collector's edition.

I seem to recall that the issue was that Bandai wanted to enforce a 2-sets-per-season release plan.

I'm not personally too precious about having anime on BD (having seen some really ropey PQ on a few releases) but I can see that GITS: SAC would benefit greatly. Plus, the series is so re-watchable that I'd happily support a 4 volume release of the series. PROVIDED ITS PRICED DECENTLY.

And considering Manga Entertainment ploughed money into the show's production, I'd hope that gives them a bit of leverage in any deal that might be struck for the show.

Surely it's got to be a case of 'when' as opposed to 'if'?

Yeah I remember them asking on facebook or twitter (I'm getting old, but it was one of them) if people would be willing to buy Gits:SAC BDs if each series was split into two parts with a SRP of £35 each, and the response wasn't exactly great. Bloody shame.

The Manga UK Facebook page is depressing, they posted about DBZRF the other day and an alarming number of comments were "already seen it on YouTube".

Even if you pirate the film, why the **** would you brag about it on the distributor's facebook page? I can see why Jerome M is constantly upset with them...

Anyway, £35 for 12 episodes isn't that bad. Kaze are charging £21 for 6 episodes of Terraformars. I think they may be overvaluing that.

Not seen the show but 12 episodes for £35 is definitely on the high side for what would probably have been a standard barebones release.

That's a shame. I put down £400 for the JP Blu-rays and another £200 for the Korean blu-rays and I haven't even watched the show yet! Maybe I shouldn't be so boastful about that

I agree that it's on the high side for the UK, but most places would have sold it for less than that (a lot of people think SRP is what they would be paying for it, which is rarely the case). Personally I would have had no problem paying £35 as it's one of my favourite shows, but I can see why others may balk at the idea.

I remember asking this. It was close to the start of anime being released on BR, and we still had a lot of 12/13 episode DVD releases coming out fairly cheaply (it would've been 2010) roughly I think. A lot of people, myself included, were still looking for quantity over quality. This is far before Anime Ltd and their version of Ultimate/Collectors Editions. Plus GitS: SAC was a show that was routinely being sold on the cheap even on DVD.

If you put down £600 for a show you haven't even see you either have far too much money or are legitimately insane.

I mean its not like I'm never going to watch them, just waiting for a rainy day! *looks outside and notices the downpour* Another rainy day, I swear.

The time I'm talking about wasn't 2010 as I was still on my long break from watching anime at that point, so they must have asked again later.

Curiosity got the better of me as I was typing this, here's the post if anyone's interested.....it was 2013.

Even being THE biggest SAC fanboy going, I couldn't justify that kind of money for the show.

The problem with SRP is that, like it or not, the average consumer is going to view that as the likely price to pay. I've never had time for the argument that 'RRP isn't a real number'. If it isn't at the very least an indicator of what folks are likely to pay for it in some outlets, why even cite it?

Working that out by way of pounds per season of the show, £70 for ANY series is too much. In fact, I think that kind of pricing provokes the question 'do you actually WANT to sell any copies of this, Mr. Distributor?'

Sometimes it's just an educated gamble.

I put down about £500 for the Yamato 2199 BDs, including the movies and the collector box. Best show I've seen in years :thumb:

Also, would that show even benefit that much from the treatment? It wasn't animated in HD, unless I'm mistaken?
Here's a selection of comparison shots posted by someone on Bluray.com. It compares the KR BD (Which is the JP BD w/Engsub added) with the R1 DVD.

- SAC P1
- SAC P2
- SAC 2nd Gig

I own the two JP BD boxes and they are totally worth it.

Also SRP £35 means it will cost about £25 per volume. While I don't mind paying that for a 2 cour show, 4 cours at that price seems a tad bit much for me although I'm sure that if the video quality was decent that it would be worth it.

If this were a long running shonen series It'd be understandable to not want to pay that for every instalment. But this is GITS SAC, if your willing to buy 1 or 2 cours of a good show for £25, paying £25 x 4 for SAC shouldn't be an issue, your getting a great show and 4 cours worth to boot.
