[Overseas] Anime News & Announcements

For me it was the opposite - I found it a real slow starter and only really got into it 5 or so episodes in. That said, I thought the ending was pretty so-so and I gather a lot of people weren't keen on the changes it made to the source material.

I think it suffered a lot too as many people wrote it off early in its run as really bad and stopped watching - I certainly didn't see much critical commentary on it, just weekly fanboy hype.

It's not really the kind of show that warrants critical commentary. It's like those Asylum B-movies, it knew exactly what it was doing. If you're down for that kind of show, you'll like it, if you aren't, you won't.

That said, the way everybody fell in love with Tatsumi annoyed me, and Akame's not really a well developed enough chracter to pull off an ending like that.

The issue I had was that the show tired so hard to be edgy, they would Kill off characters for the sake of killing people off, very little development behind said characters (It also didn't help that bar the first death it was far too obvious who was getting written out next, the death flags were insane). How can you form an emotional response if you hardly know the character. I don't know if that issue was present in the Manga but it just got real stupid, not in a trashy fun way either. The show just felt poorly written, using constant deaths as a way to push plot I went from "meh" to "oh, this isn't bad" to "oh god, this is getting worse" to "wow, that was a waste of my time".

If people like it, great! It's very accessible and could bring people into the fandom, I just hated it. The OP was good though & Esdeath was a decent character.

Would you actually want the show to be edgy?

Because large parts of Terraformars, are edgy (a character called Eva commits suicide in the arms of her lover Adolf at the end of a protracted battle sequence), it doesn't salvage the show from being an absolute trainwreck, if anything it makes it so much worse. I enjoyed the second half of the season, but I'd be lying if I said the first third wasn't laughably bad...

Terraformars made me laugh, it was unintentionally so bad & messy that I ended up enjoying. It felt like a trashy b-movie. Akame didn't give me that same feeling, just felt like a poor show.

I don't mind edge, but it's gotta give me more than just edge. If you understand where I'm coming from?

Speaking of Terraformars, I expected it to be in Funi's December line-up considering the KAZE release is meant to be out in December & I thought they might be able to get hold of the dub for it..

Terraformars is unlicensed in North America. Warner Bros did release it with English subs in Japan though.

Kaze UK is releasing it over here subtitle only like Nisekoi but in Aniplex style ~ 6 episodes per set.

News to me. I could've sworn Funi had the license.

& here I was, waiting for the Limited Edition release from them, ta for that bit of info.

EDIT: I don't know why I thought Funi had it, it's on CR for the UK after all, which is where I blooming watched it... I wonder about myself sometimes.

I think it got better during the second half, but the first half was atrocious but watchable.

I understand, you're not offended by edginess, but you wouldn't watch a show just because it was edgy.

£40 for a 13 episode, sub-only series from Kaze, when the uncensored versions are up on Crunchyroll.

I guess they're banking on gullible Americans? I'd go for it if they could secure the two OVA prequels though...

Nozomi Entertainment

Back at Anime Expo, we announced that one of our first Nozomi Blu-ray releases would be Revolutionary Girl Utena!

Now, the release is still a ways off yet, but while we're in pre-production with the title, we figured it's the perfect chance to get your ideas. What do you want to see in the Utena Blu-ray set? What kind of packaging do you like, what kind of extras do you hope for? Let us know in the comments below.

We can't promise to use every idea, but we do promise to take all your feedback into consideration. Spread the word, and help shape the future of Utena!

Hopefully this means it's a potential for Anime Ltd next year considering their previous link up with Nozomi on the Gundam stuff.

I think that is more to do with Anime Limited-Sunrise rather than Anime Limited-Nozomi.

Since I own the Japanese sets, some snaps:

I only just found out that the US Utena sets include the movie.

And that, ladies and gents, is how you get me reaching for my wallet.

I was weighing up getting the DVDs, before they revealed the Blu Rays. Hoping they include the movie with them, too.

The first three Pokemon movies will soon be re-released in Australia & New Zealand on Blu-ray and DVD this December 3rd by Beyond Home Entertainment, the same folks who have released Pokemon to those areas before.

Each film will have a Collector's Edition DVD release while the Blu-ray versions will be together in one Collector's Edition Tin (3 Blu-ray discs, one per film).

I guess Hype?

Huh, I think I may be slightly interested in that. I loved those movies as a kid and I'd love to see if they hold up. Although I have no idea how to import anything from Australia outside of Madman. Since Australia don't have an Amazon it makes it a little trickier to find a place willing to ship internationally.

JB Hi-Fi seems to be the place people normally use, but I've never used them myself, so I can't comment on how good they are.
