Definitely tempted to get the first 3 Pokemon movies on blu-ray as they're the ones i enjoyed most. Are they only being released in AUS so far? Not sure i want to spend around £30-35 on them.

Release Date for both: 1st December.

Note: Justin Sevakis is not doing the authoring for Death Note. He is however working on other Viz Media titles with planned Bang Zoom! English dubs.

This is Viz Media. It's going to be Region A only heh. Unless something happens by which we can access the set via top menu.

That's a bummer. Does make me wonder what the point of having European language and sub options when those countries can't natively play the discs...

French is for Quebec. Spanish is for Mexico, Central America and Spanish-speaking Americans. Portuguese is for South America (probably Brazilian Portuguese, but I don't know if anime licensers can afford to dub more than one dialect.)

I never thought about non English speaking territories within the Americas. That makes a lot more sense.

So basically the same company which authored the disgusting Sailor Moon upscales and the absolutely awful looking Gargantia set have been handed this project. Call me negative but I'm expecting nothing more than utter **** from this release.
 
I remember there was definitely a point when Manga out it out in Twitter to see if anyone was interested in a UK BR release of SAC.

Also, would that show even benefit that much from the treatment? It wasn't animated in HD, unless I'm mistaken?

It's actually one of the first anime series to be animated in HD digitally, but the Blu-ray is 1080i in order to prevent ghosting and dropped frames due to parts being animated in 30fps (the opening if I'm correct is 30fps).

In short, yes it benefits a lot from being on BD.

I think Jerome M was asked about it on twitter the other month, and said it wouldn't be worth it for Manga UK, but he personally hoped Anime Ltd. would sub-licence it off them and do a collector's edition.
 
Interesting, never knew that - always thought because of its age it would suffer in the same way other shows of the same time period would.

I wonder if BR sets of it would sell that well in the UK - GITS still seems to be a big seller here, but I feel like people wouldn't jump at the gun quite so quickly when it comes to double dipping.
 
Depends on the price. GITS is a franchise that people recognize by ear and I'd hazard a guess and say a lot of people own the series on DVD so getting them to double dip is the main hurdle, but its been enough time between its last release that they could convince people. They still haven't sold out of those GITS Limited Edition Steelbooks. The Japanese set has been OOP for a while, but even with a reprint, its out of a lot of peoples reach price wise, the Korean sets in this regards were more palatable.
