Heads up, the US release of Slam Dunk is English dub only.

Someone on Fandom Post pointed out something that I never thought about:

This does make me realize one thing, however. When you really think about it, every anime release from Cinedigm/New Video/Flatiron Video has been a single-audio release. It's either been dub-only (Digimon, Zatch Bell, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Beyblade) or sub-only (Saint Seiya, Mononoke). Is this company just unable to do a dual-audio anime release? Stuff like From Up on Poppy Hill doesn't count, either, as those were from GKids, with Cinedigm only acting as a distributor; Flatiron Video is one of Cinedigm's own labels.
Well that sucks. Depending on what the english voices sound like i may not get future volumes. I wanted to listen to the japanese track with english subs.

I figure it's worth posting here with some nifty news:

Discotek Media went licensing crazy earlier this year, and I was curious to see if any of the new stuff they put out would be region free. There's been a trend in their previous releases (Captain Harlock, Fist of the North Star, Crying Freeman, etc) for the disc packaging to be marked as region 1, but ACTUALLY be region free.

Well, this week I took delivery of Bokurano, which is a more recent show in comparison to the other stuff of theirs I own. And it works fine in my Region 2 Panasonic player.

Good times. I approve of this.

Huh, so all of the DVDs they've released are region free? That's pretty interesting.

I know the Blu-rays are region locked to A.

Yeah - certainly everything of theirs that I own has worked just fine on my region 2 player. It seems as if this is the standard for their DVD releases. I was interested to see if any of their current wave of licenses were different in this respect, but it seems like they're all region free. The first DVD collection of Mazinger Z arrived yesterday and also plays fine in a UK player.

Really looking forward to Knights of Sidonia! Probably going to hold off a while and see if there's to be a UK release, though. I want to suport the UK industry where I can. My money's on Animatsu to nab it, if anyone.

It's been reported on Funimation's forums that Scott Freeman (voice actor for shows like High School DxD [Issei]) has officially retired from voice acting due to unfortunate circumstances.

Future Diary is region A only......oh bummer. And multi region BD players aren't cheap too, and yes I know I could just get it on DVD but it's split in 2 parts and more expensive, surprised Funimation didn't do a combo pack

No combo pack is probably because they know some people will have already bought it on DvD and they want to limit costs. Fans have already had to wait an age for it on BD, no reason to add the expense of making them double dip on a DvD version just to get the BD they actually want.

While it most likely will be locked, there is a small chance it might not be as the FUNi shop said Darker than Black S2 anime classics was locked when it infact wasn't. They also said Tokyo Ravens Part 1 was region free when it was not.

Aniplex is releasing sub only Persona 4 The Golden Animation Blu Rays

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... ays/.88246

Should probably mention the article has MAJOR spoilers for the game/show so if you haven't played the game yet (and if you haven't what are you doing, go play that) please don't click.
So America gets the first Persona 4 animation on BD dub only and the second one sub only. Perplexing as usual.

I might import Future Diary. I'm quite fond of it in all its screwed up glory.

Different distributors since if I remember correctly it was aniplex who requested (or demanded) that the Japanese audio option was removed from the US BD release and hasn't been reinstated since sentai hasn't done a complete collection for the BD.

Quick query:

Buddy Complex. I know Funimation streamed this, but do they have home video rights for it? That show looks pretty nifty.

That's disappointing, i was waiting to watch it when it was dubbed as i really liked the first anime series. Oh well might as well just watch it subbed on crunchyroll now.

I'll probably buy it because it's an AniplexUSA release, but the show itself is terrible. Not surprised at all that Aniplex chose not to dub it.

Just a heads up to folks here that it looks like the US Patlabor movie Blu-Rays are slightly inferior in picture quality to the 8 year old Japanese editions (that have English subtitles). They don't include the original stereo tracks.
Welcome to pretty much every western BD release ever - Sentai releases especially (which that happens to be).
