Funimation will be discontinuing the Anime Classics edition of the first season of Darker Than Black.

They're probably going to re-release the first season as an Anime Classic Combo Pack.
 
I figure it's worth posting here with some nifty news:

Discotek Media went licensing crazy earlier this year, and I was curious to see if any of the new stuff they put out would be region free. There's been a trend in their previous releases (Captain Harlock, Fist of the North Star, Crying Freeman, etc) for the disc packaging to be marked as region 1, but ACTUALLY be region free.

Well, this week I took delivery of Bokurano, which is a more recent show in comparison to the other stuff of theirs I own. And it works fine in my Region 2 Panasonic player.

Good times. I approve of this.

Huh, so all of the DVDs they've released are region free? That's pretty interesting.

I know the Blu-rays are region locked to A.

Rightstuf have confirmed JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (2012) will indeed have an English dub. That (to me) at least makes up for the lack of Blu-ray so far.
 
Just about to post this, you beat me to it. Personally I'd prefer a Japanese only Blu Ray to a dual audio DVD. I'd prefer both much more :p Anyway, Will be interested to see who they hire for voice actors. The SC test dub was pretty decent so that gives me hope that it can be done well. I also wonder if they'll go the Hellsing route and hire mostly British voice actors for Part 1.

I think this is one of the most complicated sync jobs I've ever done. The Chun-Li scene alone was a nightmare to do.
It's very lucky that while there's something like 3 minutes of deleted footage in SF II, all the footage they cut out was slow and ponderous.
So there's a bunch of missing scenes like... Ryu and Fei Long walking away. Or... M. Bison walking out of a door. Or Ryu being stunned.
It all sets a different mood. All 3 English cuts of SF II speed up the pace of the movie considerably. The PG-13 version I think the most.
If it's not apparent what I did there; I recut the shorter English audio to match the longer uncut Japanese video. Not edited the movie.
Which is what fans have been asking for since the mid-1990s.

Update regarding audio:
I can confirm it's the dub with the craaaazy rock music. The goal is to include all three versions of the dub somehow:
-There's only one 5.1 mix, and that mix is the "R" rated cut. Which is similar to the "Unrated" UK version except it lacks f-bombs and some other choice words.
-The next step for me is to recut the "Unrated" UK version like I did the 5.1 mix. This only exists in 2.0, fyi.
-We will also likely include the PG-13 version in some manner as well. I'm waiting for the master to be transferred for this.

To clarify, does this release have the Original Japanese Language track *with* the Original Japanese Soundtrack (and all the great JP songs on it)?
As far as we know, yes. Unless I'm mistaken, I don't recall there ever being a version of the JP track with alternate music.

The first season was great but the second season killed off a lot of what made it entertaining - still, it had fantastic action and great music though, even if most of the characters sucked and the ending felt rushed.
 
I'd agree S1 was a bit better than S2 but it's hard to separate the 2 halves. It might as well of been one 24 episode series. I would have liked the show if the characters weren't some of the most boring I've seen in a show, headlined by Inaho, who barely even qualifies being called a character. That and the fact the CGI and the animation mesh incredibly poorly. I agree that the action and music was good but it just wasn't enough IMO. Makes me wonder what it would have been like if Urobuchi stayed on...
 
Heads up, the US release of Slam Dunk is English dub only.

Funimation have announced their line-up of Broadcast Dubs for the Spring Season:

The complete list of Broadcast Dubs for the Spring 2015 season is listed below. Broadcasts Dubs will begin airing in two phases – approximately four weeks after the subtitled simulcast of each episode.

Phase 1

- High School DxD BorN (Saturdays at 1:00 pm ET, beginning May 2)
- Assassination Classroom (Wednesdays at 8:00 pm ET, beginning May 13) - Continuing from previous season
- Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign (Wednesdays at 8:30 pm ET, beginning May 13)
- Blood Blockade Battlefront (Wednesdays at 9:00 pm ET, beginning May 13)
- Ninja Slayer (Thursdays at 10:00 am ET, beginning May 21)

Phase 2

- The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan (Fridays at 2:10 pm ET, date TBA)

Ghost in the Shell: ARISE AA and Rainy Cocoa are the only titles in the spring season that won't receive a broadcast dub.
 
I've wondered this for awhile, with Funi doing broadcast dubs for quite a few of their simulcasts now does it mean they can get the shows out on Blu-ray/DVD sooner than before?
