[Overseas] Anime News & Announcements

Are FUNi just going to lock everything to Region A now? Pretty underwhelming month if that is it, more cash saved I suppose.

It actually depends on the title and licensor they get them from:
- One Piece is a Toei title, 100% going to be US only.
- Noragami was shown on Animax so Kaze will most likely have the UK rights, hence why the US version won't be UK compatible.
- Inari Kon Kon is a Kadokawa title, 100% going to be US only.
- 009 Re:Cyborg was picked up by Anime Limited (which by the looks of it, the US version doesn't have the 3D version), hence why the US version won't be UK compatible. And any film in particular nowadays is always region locked.
- Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa may use the existing discs which were Regions AB so there's a chance it might be UK compatible.
- TO was region locked in its original release.

Madman have announced they picked up the rights to:
- Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'
- Golden Time
- The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat
- Haikyuu!!
- Hozuki no Reitetsu
- Magical Warfare
- The Pet Girl of Sakurasou
- So, I Can't Play H!
- Sunday Without God
- The World God Only Knows

I expect all except DBZ, Magical Warfare and Sunday Without God to be DVD only.

Sentai Filmworks have licensed Hayate the Combat Butler.

I recall they were trying to acquire the first two seasons, now it looks like they pretty much got them. This announcement is for the first season, leaving the second season left to acquire.

This is a catalogue title and is expected to be released in July 2015.

The latest ANNCast focused on Aniplex of America, a couple of notes were taken from the Fandom Post.

But the most important note I should clarify is this - Sword Art Online II Limited Edition sets will have Chipboard artboxes.

- Japan did take the US market into account when deciding to make more Durarara. (Guess it really wasn't a flop)
- SAO v1 sold 5k
- As expected streaming numbers determine how they do their releases
- 10 employees at AoA right now
- Vividred was a flop
- No plans for reprints on GoS or Trust & Betrayal
- No plans for Rurouni Kenshin TV series release
- Not concerned about putting out catalog stuff on disc. (Sorry DayBreak fans)
- Madoka and SAO are neck and neck for being AoA's best sellers
- They considered putting in an Oscar nomination for Expelled from Paradise
- Expelled from Paradise's theatrical run hit their target numbers
- SAO II will have a chipboard box and they say they aren't completely going away from them but they're experimenting
- Experimenting with physical premium items
- AOA DOES NOT HAVE SEVEN DEADLY SINS (it might still be being bid on & they weren't sure about the Netflix thing)
- AoA does apparently bid on their titles
- Nanoha Vivid and Dog Days s3 are also apparently being bid on

Glad to hear that chipboard artboxes will be making a return. I believe Aniplex guy said they were being considered on a title by title basis, so bigger shows will get proper boxes again. Good to know that when Fate/Stay Night UBW comes out it should have a nice shiny box like Zero.

Interesting that they have to bid on them, and aren't just handed them by Aniplex Japan.
That was the case for Bandai too wasn't it? It's not anything new as far as I'm aware.

You'd think they'd get preferential treatment being braches of the same company, rather than bidding they'd agree on a price that'd be mutually beneficial.

Toonami have confirmed that 5 of their shows plus the 8pm Encore have reached over a million views, they announced on Twitter. That's pretty impressive. The full ratings will be up soon.

High School DxD BorN will be receiving an English Broadcast Dub, not too surprising given the first two seasons were very successful for Funimation and have been dubbed.

The recastings are a bit jarring though...

Did everyone else just, like, know that AnimEigo still existed?

I sort of knew since the Bubblegum Crisis kickstarter. They have two more kickstarters planned as far as I'm aware.

Wow, that's great. Wonder if we can expect something from a UK distributor soon...

Who knows. I still would like Anime Limited to handle the release since I feel it would fit their catalogue.

Speaking of the convention I mentioned in the post above, Anime Central is the next major US convention (May 15th-17th) so perhaps we'll hear some news then. I think Sailor Moon was announced at that time last year.
