[Overseas] Anime News & Announcements

Isn't there also a big London con soon too? Maybe something there?

Perhaps, but it's rather unlikely we'll expect an announcement over here... yet.

But, hey UK distributors. Surprise me.

WOAH. WOAH. WOAH. WOAH.

Apparently Warner Bros are releasing JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Season 1 in July on DVD.

Warner Bros owns Viz Media I think so perhaps Viz themselves will officially announce the release at a recent con in USA.
I don't think Warner own VIZ. As far as I'm aware they just handle the distribution of their titles. I do wonder what constitutes season 1 though. Are we talking episodes 1 - 13? Are we talking just Phantom Blood?
I wait to hear what Viz will be doing as far as the release strategy goes, and I'm looking forward to hearing what the inevitable BD LE will include. I just hope they haven't given the project to Subatomic Digital to handle since the video quality on the Sailor Moon and Gargantia BDs are abyssmal. A **** quality Jojo release would break my poor miserable heart.

I have nothing to say but...

Oh god I think I'd cry many tears of joy if Anime Limited got Jojo, but tbh I think I'd buy it from anyone at this point.
I think Anime Limited would do a great job of JoJo's but at the same time I think its too long a series for them too undertake as they're better suited with their limited edition sets to 13 episode series and movies (25-26 episode series at a push but not too often).

If its Viz / Warner bros then its Kaze by default in which case I'd hope Warner Bros would bypass Kaze and just release it themselves in the UK :p

Yeah I actually asked about it for one of the podcast questions, and Andrews answer didn't sound as though it was something he would be keen on, but he did say a few people were interested but it was tied up in complications at the time....but seriously, I'd even buy it from Manga.

Gotta say, tonight I saw why Viz are occasionally reviled. The picture quality on their DVD releaseof Lagrange - The Flower Of Rin-Ne is absolutely dire. Ghosted lines everywhere. I actually feel angry at having paid money for it.

Funimation have announced that Blood Blockade Battlefront and Seraph have been added to DubbleTalk which suggests they'll be receiving a Broadcast dub.

I have to admit I'd be shocked if Warner Bros distribute it themselves in the UK - like you say, it'd be a no brainer for Manga or Animatsu to get it as they'd market the crap out of it. Though I suppose Warner have upped their game with the live action RK movies and Black Butler movie recently, getting steelbooks/cinema releases.

JoJo has Manga written all over it... Didn't Manga distribute Supernatural the anime for Warners?

No Warner actually released Supernatural themselves but DVD only (the US got Blu-ray [A & B apparently] and DVD).

I wouldn't mind Warner Bros invading the anime scene here in the UK. But the question is will they give the shows a nice treatment.

Yeah, I think that's more the issue I have with it - the treatment of the release.

Anyone remember Sony's limp attempt with Legend of the 1000 Dragon and First Squad? If Warner just do something like that, it's not really going to be favourable.

On the other hand, Warner as a bonafide anime distributor in its own right could be very interesting if they put proper money and marketing muscle behind it - they'd potentially have the kind of resources the likes of Manga etc. could only ever dream of.

I'm guessing someone at Warner Bros got a copy of Sailor Moon and feel JoJo deserves a bit better (which hopefully means they'll keep it away from Kaze)

On the topic of Sony, If they really wanted to enter the anime scene in the UK they'd give us Blood+!!!

Media Blasters have plans to release a Kite collection (consisting of Kite International version and Kite Liberator) and Ladies vs Butlers collection on Blu-ray.

LvB was initially confirmed for DVD only at that point but now it's both formats.
Kite was already released on Blu-ray individually back in November.

How many years has it been since Media Blasters announced they were releasing LvB? Gotta wonder why they've sat on it for so long.
