Neon Genesis Evangelion

The basic jist is that i don't consider anything that happened in End of Eva to have actually been the exact way the series meant to have ended.

This is probably going to be my one and only reply to this part of this thread so wether you reply or not is up to you, but I couldn't let this go.

The directors cut of the final few episodes leading up to 25-26/End of Evangelion, ( you 'do' know who the director is and what a 'directors cut' means don't you? :p  ), had artwork changes and slight story changes to make the series lead into End of Evangelion rather than 25-26, even the epilogue of episode 24 introduced the first episode of End of Evangelion as the next episode in the chain.

So if you go off what the director wanted when he made his 'directors cut' versions, End of Evangelion is the true ending.

No it doesn't all the directors cut shows is concept art for the series production not EOE.
No need to be a dick, of course i've seen the directors cuts and yes it features and leads on to what happens in EOE and clearly shows that he was planning to take it further and some of those scenes feature in EOE.
The reason i say ignore what happened in EOE is because its just poor in comparison to the series, like it's directed by a completely different man with a different motive.
But i'm positive if he hadn't have been shown the tv critisism of what he showed content wise in episodes leading up to the series finale and been able to have full control, the final episodes wouldve shown a resemblance EOE because of the directors cut concept art but the majority of what happened wouldnt have due to the tv certificate and kept with the flow and the tone of the series. I believe half of it was in angst towards those who hated the series ending and those who slagged of the recap film.
I don't doubt that EOE has issues that he meant to resolve NGE its just how the whole film was made and those issues where resolved.
You cannot deny that if time and budget constraints hadn't have happened EOE would not be what went out on television as part of the series.
Now about whatever ending Rebuild takes, i know it will be different and i hope its justifiable compared to the series.

Yes, of course an ending like EoE wouldn't have been shown on Japanese TV at 8.30, but that doesn't mean the director didn't want that ending, or that the ending wasn't suited to the series. In fact, the reason Anno made that admitedly horrible series ending is because he wasn't allowed make it like EoE, because of the television producers.

LukusROAR, you keep going on about how EoE didn't fit in with the rest of the series and yet you are defending the series ending as the 'real ending'. Well, unless you and I watched different Evangelions, the final two episodes most definately did not fit in with the rest of the series at all. EoE seems much more in tune with the rest of the series, and I think you know that.

I loved the EoE movie. It's among my all time favorite movies. It's got all that psychological depth and meaning and it's visually amazing and has awesome, exciting fight scenes. The point at which instrunmentality is initiated and everyone becomes LCL (with Komm, Susser Tod playing in the backround) is a fantastic piece of cinema, and it's really, really powerful! EoE is a great film, and it's the ending that Evangelion deserved IMO.

I know what you mean and i agree, and i'll admit i'm fighting against it purely because of my personal distaste, i understand it's more likey that Anno wanted it that way but i just hated it so much i'm constantly looking for ways to prove it may have been different. Which i still believe it may have. But hey i'm glad you enjpyed EoE, i wish i could show a similar view on the closure of the series.
I actually loved the last 2 episodes of the series, and your right it was definitely not hte ending so something needed to be done, i just didnt like their choice. The final 2 episodes for me were amazing,to me it shows the physical and psychological stress of children given a great fate with the rest of the world relying on them and how they dealt with it. It's one of the major themes of NGE i love so much. But it wasn't a proper ending i agree and one was most certainly needed, i just wish EoE had taken a different path. And believe that the reason Anno is making a new ending shows that EoE wasn't his only idea for the ending.
I'd love to talk to you in person about it lol as we're both so passionate about what the endings mean to us and why we like/dislike them.

Are you personally looking forward to Rebuild? or see it as more money making opportunity?

Well, that's not really a good reason to be fighting against EoE - you'd get much farther if you just argued your reasons for disliking EoE rather than trying to disprove it's authenticity IMO.

I'm glad you can appreciate the final two episodes, because most people would just dismiss it as nonsenical, which is most certainly isn't. My gripe with the final two eps is that they centred on Shinji mostly. The past 24 eps had built up this amazingly interesting world that I really ended up caring about and a large cast of characters that I ended up caring about. And for the last two episodes to pretty much ignore that world and the other characters was really disapointed. Shinji was a great character, easily among my favorites, but I really wanted to see the story of the world and the other characters concluded. For me, EoE done that.

Are you personally looking forward to Rebuild? or see it as more money making opportunity?

Yes, I can't wait for Rebuild! And I welcome the different ending, too. I loved EoE, but I really wanted a happy-ish ending for Shinji et al!

I'd love to talk to you in person about it lol as we're both so passionate about what the endings mean to us and why we like/dislike them.

Yeah, a discussion in person would rock! ^_^

I think thats all what anyone wanted, a happy Shinji and co.
:D

What do you reckon the chance is of a fan sub of Rebuild available on the net before christmas?

Sorry for intruding on this conversation. :S.

I've think I've mentioned it before. XD. Most fansubbers don't want to release a subbed filmed in a cinema pirate. So They will wait for the DVD release in Japan and then sub that.

Expect next year. We might even have a official release around the same time :S

Shinji deserves it, anyway! ^_^

I'm fairly new to fansubs (only started using them properly this past week) so I'm not really sure. I'd hope we;d get one much sooner, but I really don't know :(

Is there any chance we might get a raw version of the movie, from the cineam airing?
Yes, it'll be RAW, won't be used to sub and will be horrible quality from someone recording it.

That's good enough for me! ^_^

I think someone will sub it, even if it is horrible quality - it's Eva afterall!

I highly highly highly doubt that. It hasn't happened to anything (as far as I know) And I don't think fansubbers would take pride in releasing something with awful sound and picture. Most fansubbers do HD releases now-a-days.

Also, They might make out words wrong. Therefore the translations won't be accurate as they could be.

Just wait the year. Or until the official release.

A YEAR!?

But that's way too long ;_;

I also find it hard to believe that fansubbers take that much pride in what they do, that they wouldn't release a low quality fansub. I mean they are breaking the law and all and they're not making any money, plus there are plenty of people than would take RoE even with crappy quality.

No one wants to see a movie which is ****** quality and will have a hard time enjoying, and for that the fan subbers wouldn't even bother with it, I mean, look at the Bleach movie, that got a ****** RAW and that went untouched, same with the Naruto movies, so you're gonna have to wait for DVD release.

Yeah i D/L the Bleach movie raw and it was unwatchable so maybe i'd like to wait but sometimes you can get amazing quality cinema rip's like leaked preview showing or censor board dvd's etc
Well i can only hope

Hmm i'll be searching for a raw version regardless. Bad quality is annoying but its not as if its going to discourage me from watching/buying the film again when they release it on dvd. Dont go in expecting 1080pi HD and it isnt that bad, especially considering the wait. Its either that or whack your head against a wall a couple of times and mentally block the word "Eva" for a year.

You dont know bad quality until you've seen a cam of 28 weeks later - had a good 15 minutes odd of pitch black "radio" with that. Still enjoyed it and still bought the dvd when it came out.

Besides, Japan is the technological hub of the world is it not? So they should have some decent camcorders!

From the Bleach one I saw. The frames were like laggy. So the movements kinda faded into each other. And you could see peoples head. :D.

Still haven't seen the film to this day.

Anyway, when can we expect a raw? I'm guessing there won;t be one up on the 1st of September, will there?

Whenever someone records it I guess. Probably be spreading around the internets by the 3rd or 4th of September. . .Maybe before. But they will be hard to track down methinks.
