General TV Discussion

Did anyone else see All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace? Really thought-provoking documentary, especially when it came to the subject of Ayn Rand.

Whenever Adam Curtis makes a documentary I feel the need to watch it even if it leaves me in despair about humanity. Absolutely essential viewing for anybody and everybody.

Nothing on cable? I'll do one cableless too then since I'm curious myself. Including midseason, this is everything I'm gonna continue pay attention too for a bit. Shows I'm hesitant about in italics; shows I'm looking forward to in bold. Everything else I'll just watch. I used the wiki schedule, lol.

Monday:
Gossip Girl, Hart of Dixie, Terra Nova, Alcatraz, The Playboy Club, Smash, House, How I Met Your Mother

Tuesday:
Cougar Town (assuming the name stays), Apartment 23, Ringer, Glee, New Girl (Last Man Standing maybe 'cos of Tim Allen).

Ha. True, cable info is still hard to get a hold off. Mad Men is at some point next Winter. Sons and Anarchy and Dexter are in the fall. Breaking Bad (!!!) starts in a few weeks. Can't. Wait.

Watched the Champions League Final earlier. Seeing Barcelona wipe the floor with Man Utd made my day :D . Good to see that Fergie's learned his lesson from the last time.

Yeah. While it's making a lot of interesting points on the nature of society and economics, I'm feeling more conflicted by this Curtis programme than his earlier efforts as I understand (and to some degree sympathise with) Rand's point of view, even if the documentary did show her to be somewhat of a hypocrite.

While I don't agree with all of her ideas, I can easily see how anyone with greater than average intelligence and resolve can become frustrated and even contemptuous of those less able than them. I think it's only natural, actually. I also imagine life and other people have probably shown a lot more kindness to Curtis than they ever did to Rand, so it's hardly surprising that she had no time or pity for those she viewed as weaker than her (I'm sure I don't really need to stick up for Ayn Rand, but by her own logic she was a particularly tough bitch and therefore worthy of my respect... and on this particular point we happen to be in total agreement).

The Killing season one ended and hilariously, there is immense backlash at it. I quite liked it. I understood the shows rhythm and got what it was trying to do. Lots of others just wanted the puzzle solved and really, really, really hated it and the writer so much. Meh.

Also, here's a tumblr with Arrested Development quotes over Game of Thrones pictures.

Hahaha!

edit: Did anyone catch the Game of Thrones finale? The last few episodes of that show were phenomenal. Daenerys was my favourite from the first episode, and I was never truly invested in each episode until her story arc arrived but I was blown away by every single female character in this show by the season end. It's ridiculous and impressive. Westeros is a truly horrid place to live but the women (young and old) power through all the destruction and strength thrown on them by the men and the tradition and every one of them stands tall and rises above it. Truly, truly phenomenal.

Going to read the books and can not wait for the blu-ray box set to be released.

I may have mentioned this towards the start of the show's airing, but Dany is my favorite character from the books so I'm glad someone agrees. :) Go get the books read before the new one comes out next month!

So I just saw the filming of Sherlock Holmes.

So I just talked to MArtin (The Hobbit, The Office) Freeman. Dedicated actor. Told me he was busy with his scene. I also saw Mark Gatiss and Benedict Cumberbatch,

I had a good talk with an extra...

New Sons of Anarchy looks phenomenal in this trailer. It doesn't say anything about anything, but it conveys the essence of the show fantastically --

Boardwalk Empire's is more conventional but just as excellent. Looks like the KKK are in town this year --
