General Games Discussion

Gargh. Shame, my pc is a big turd for playing games =/
Was going to recommend Amnesia: Dark Descent, but that's a PC game too. :(

Console-wise, the only game I know which features scrounging for ammo is Far Cry 2. Sadly that's just because of the stupid ammo limits that the developers put in!

Edit: There's the Zombie mode on CoD: Black Ops. Don't know if that's quite what you're looking for though!

Does anyone know of any survival-based games out there? I don't necessarily mean horror, just survival, games where you need to scrounge for ammo and items, improvise stuff if necessary.
.

Well depends on the gen, theres SOS: the final escape on the PS2 where you escape from an earthquake stricken town. It's sequel Raw Danger where you go through a similar scenario with floods, but I had to buy that on import from amazon france back when it was released.

There's also a 3rd entry that never made it outside of japan it's title is Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3. And it came out on the PSP (none of these really feature gunplay though so there's no scrounging for ammo, just other items)

For the wii there's Disaster day of crisis which is similar in the sense of avoiding lots of natural disasters but there's definitely more of an arcadey feel and Idon't think you need to scrounge for ammo though.

Yeah, I'd love to play ADD but PC's just not for me =( Far Cry 2 I rented a while ago and I just did not find it fun at all.

If anyone has any other recommendations I'd be happy to give em a shot =) Basically I'm looking for games where you have to "make-do" with what's available to you.

If you don't mind older games, Condemned is all about having SOD ALL ammo and having to improvise with bits of wood and pipes etc. Plus it scare dthe crap out of me back whenever it came out. Never played the sequel though and I'm not sure how well it would stand up today.

I liked Alone in the Dark too, I think if they'd just had another few months to polish and fix some of the poor design choices it would've been groundbreaking.

Ach. Alas (or rather, not alas :p) I already have Condemned. I friggin love it. (feckin mannequins...)

I actually just played some more "Alone in the Dark" to tide me over, I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it, it may be the best/worst game ever :p There are so many great moments and pieces of gameplay in there, marred by some wonky mechanics (that black sludge... in one part it kind of comes up behind you and you can't stop it no matter where you shine your torch/flaming chair) and the poor characters (though I actually kinda got into the story)

The ending was also incredibly frustrating, because I think that if the romance had been better developed and less "you're the lead male, you're the lead female NOW KISS!" the good ending could have been really devastating and shocking in a good way, instead of kind of a wet fart.

I dread to think the amount of hours I wasted in the Sim City and Civilization franchises as a teen. I should never play them ever again. That or I should become Mayor or something.

If anyone has Freakyforms for the Nintendo 3DS, I made this:

If I could make a contract with Kyubey, I would ask for two things:
1) To be allowed ONE more part, so I could actually have it has four legs. It looks so weird in action with only two >>
2) To have 2 more letters for the favourite phrase. I couldn't fit "Contract", so I had to settle with "Wish?" >>.

Well the Gold edition of Dawn of War and Winter Assault turned up lastnight.

Already having Dawn of War installed on my laptop meant i couldn't get to the setup screen and put the key in to activate the game on my pc, after running through the program files and profiles i copied all my save and playback data, uninstalled the game and re-installed it. The product key for both versions was input and happy days.

Though i have noticed a significant difference between DoW and WA: The techpriests work faster than my Servitors and it looks like literally EVERYTHING is dirt cheap and quick to make for the Imperial Guard meaning that the moment a skirmish deploys the IG build mobs of cannon fodder that never seem to end.

I ran a 126 sized map to trial run how effective they are to play with - within minutes i had alot of the upgrades, deploying tanks and artillery and was able to storm the eldar base with ease and mass numbers.

Trial run with my marines against guard wasn't so easy. I have a thing about setting up a perimeter within the first opening seconds of any skirmish, a wall of turrets to protect my HQ, whilst my wall of cover/crossfire worked well to keep the mobs at bay, the moment a general came into the camp the wall broke down and i was forced to dispatch my chaplain and assault troop squad, after jumping into the enemy camp i realised they had deployed chimera tanks en mass.

Just whats going on with IG? Suddenly they have been given everything so quickly and for so much cheaper than most other armies (the only other army with a quick start like that are the Ork's with their free to add more builder gretchin and mobs of 15 orks in a scouting team)

New SimCity. New, proper SimCity, after the pathetic excuse for a SimCity game that was Societies.

You cannot imagine how happy this news makes me.
Hope it's better than Sim City 4, which had an annoying habit of crashing to desktop on every single playthrough.

Totally agree with you, I must have thrown weeks into both series, mostly Civ.

once modded it's a brill game, and the crashing to desktop isn't a problem once u know how to avoid it

Club Nintendo now have their Kid Icarus: Uprising AR card packs up for purchase. 250 points per pack.

There's always the chance that these might become gold dust sooner or later. Or maybe not.

With sticks I am confounded

I am a spendthrift.

Should I wait for a discounted 'BrawlStick' to come into stock, or would a "Hori Tekken Wireless stick" be equally satisfactory?

The WWE sticks are much better, both in terms of the stock parts they come with and the potential for modding them in the future.

Jeeez and breadsticks, that is a sexy mofo! You'll be the manliest gamer on your block with that beaut!

What are the benefits of using an arcade stick? Why do you personally prefer them over control pads? I've often been tempted by sticks, but having been a control pad user in fighting games for 20 years, will it be difficult to adjust?

*250 points for 2 packs.

I spent all of my Star points to order 8 pairs of packs (so 16 packs). Only problem with them is, it takes Club Nintendo AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGEEEEEES to send stuff. When they say "Wait up to 8 weeks for delivery", they mean it.

Also interestingly enough, I was emailed by Nintendo's automatic system to fill in a Kid Icarus survey. One of the questions was if I would be interested in buying a pack of Kid Icarus AR cards in stores for £1 each....pretty specific question.
