Figure discussion/picture thread

I haven't had any new figures for ages. ;_;

Particularly jelly of the Levi figure Vox posted. Need to purchase more shelving or something before I can realistically buy any more.

This turned up today, bought second-hand from an Amazon JP Marketplace shop (via proxy). I've been thinking of getting an Evangelion figure for some time and Misato is my favourite character so this was the obvious one to get.
Amazingly it avoided a customs charge, even with 4800yen clearly marked on the package. Considering how quickly it arrived I'm wondering if it even went through customs at all. It was posted in Japan on Monday and arrived today, which seems unusually quick even for airmail. Not that I'm complaining or anything 8)

I'm starting to think they base it on the shipping method, things sent via EMS seem to always get hit, while other stuff sent economy/SAL seem to be much more likely to slip through. Declaring in Yen definitely seems to help, I'd wager they are good at spotting dollar's that are over the limit but any other currency requires some work.

This can occasionally go spectacularly wrong when some work experience kid takes the yen value as GBP and gives you a horrifying bill for a CD.

This may have happened to me before. A scathing letter was written.

Ouch, I can imagine this was quite the hassle as the post office have the policy of pay upfront or no item (and you can't even argue an error was made with their staff as they blindly obey the customs sticker), Did you get a refund?

I once was stung by a gift from a friend in the US. He had sent me an Azumanga Daioh DVD set artbox as he had one spare, and had marked the customs value as $1.00, but the decimal point was not very clear. After a scathing letter, I eventually got the money back.

Yeah, though ironically you have to pay the postage on complaint letters. It would be nice if there was a digital option (which would of course make complaining easier, so they won't do it).

I had to pay upfront before I could complain, too.

Got this today. http://myfigurecollection.net/item/197619
That's the first shelf of my display cabinet full, time to start filling out the rest :D

Yet again I dodged customs, that's twice in a month. I always select Airmail for shipments from Japan, and the customs capture rate is now exactly 50% using this method (6 packages over 2 years, 3 caught, 3 escaped). The best thing about dodging customs (other than saving money) is that the parcel arrives in just 4 days, compared to 9 days with customs charge. That's EMS speed delivery without the hassle of dealing with ParcelForce, but then Airmail is almost as expensive as EMS so you would expect it to be quick. I don't know how anyone has the patience to wait for a SAL delivery (5 weeks  ).

I haven't ordered any figures in a hot minute, but since I'm a lot closer to organizing all my crap into something resembling a displayable state, I've ordered one for now:

and one for later:

Received http://myfigurecollection.net/item/166882 last weekend, looks nice bar a few mould imperfections that luckily aren't too visible. Going to try and get her on display this weekend, switch out a few of my school rumble figures.

Also received http://myfigurecollection.net/item/144336

Most figures have a few minor imperfections but unluckily for me they'd missed a blush mark on one of her faces aswell as a paint chip on her bow. Luckily Good Smile have excellent customer service, a quick submission to their online support centre and I have 2 replacement parts winging their way to me less than 24 hours after submitting my report. :)

After seeing Suigintou painted and up for pre order http://myfigurecollection.net/item/198399

I gave in and ordered a Shinku to go with her http://myfigurecollection.net/item/167077, just need to wait a few weeks for Shinku and then till Nov/Dec for Suigintou

Shinobu looks excellent.

Replacement parts arrived yesterday, very impressive customer service, no wonder they are considered one of the top tier figure makers.

Got a Yoshino http://myfigurecollection.net/item/186207 on the way to go with Tohka, and there's at least 2 more DAL nendos being made. If only they'd do a Holo, her stuff always instantly sells out so I can only imagine the sales figures.

Nice Rin there :)

Anyway was clearing out my room to make a bit more space and took a picture of my boxed up figures... Need to work out how to fit a display case in somewhere...

Last week, I won a competition on Marvelous' European Twitter - the prize being a set of figures that were previously only available in the Japanese Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus Limited Edition. They arrived this morning:

And they now sit atop my wardrobe, where they're having to convince Sayaka that she isn't a ninja:
