CODE GEASS - LELOUCH OF THE REBELLION - R2 cut by BBFC

Thanks for the pic (I haven't seen the show yet so didn't want to try to find it myself!). Ridiculously heavy handed kneejerk by the BBFC really, given that there's much worse in plenty of already-passed anime already. Hopefully the hysteria about such things will eventually move to some other topic.

I'm not going to pay significantly more to import an anime which will probably not break my top ten anyway, just for a single frame of a slightly cheeky girls' party - so Beez's preorder is safe with me. I don't think anyone in the world would buy Geass of all shows for anticipated underaged nudity hijinks.

Ihink this is absolutly ridiculous. I wouldn't have even noticed she was there in the background. I was too busy lookingat the girls groping each other and thats coming from a girl too!
I can't believe they have gone this far to edit out something we havn't even noticed. I do agree cutting it from the show isn't going to kill us but at the same time, it's not the point.
It's safe to say the act is starting to show it's true head now with this cut and it also seems to be giving anime a bad name in general in the uk. My fiance brought a dvd yesterday and the guy behind the counter thought anime in general is getting banned. What a good moral push for an industry trying to get through the economic blow. If people didn't think all anime was hentai, they think it's all hentai and naked 10 year old girls now.

ummm isn't the shirley grope the part that's been cut?

that falls more under the C&J than the naked girls

Why does so much anime even have this kind of dodgy content included in it in the first place?

I mean I love anime, but theres an awful lot of anime with crap, and very questionable content.

It was cut because of the young-looking girl in the background witnessing the groping.

There's nothing in the C&JB that would require that shot to be removed--it's not pornographic, for one thing--but whomever examined the episode was likely aware of the change in the law and decided to play it (too) safe.

Lets wait for Andrew to confirm a few things before we all chuck the toys out of the pram.

There are avenues still open but they require all the facts to be in place first.

seriously, i really really don't get the BBFC sometimes, they allow really messed up films in the uk such a saw and other horror movies that are way ott on gore and often sexual violence and for some reason having an animated chick touch another chicks boobs is bad enough to be cut..... seriously >.>

"Company was required to remove a shot likely to encourage an interest in underage sexual activity (in this case a young girl in the background of a shot suggesting sexual activity)."

So groping is fine. Is the semi naked character in the background that isn't :p

Yeah, they are unbelievable.

Can I ask a question of those who have seen Geass R2: Do we know the age of that character? Just to remind everyone, we are talking about the topless girl in the background, as the BBFC said in their reason for the cut:

They don't care about the sexual activity, just the 'girl'.

Yeah. My reason for asking whether we know the girl's identity being; if we don't, what this basically comes down to is that the BBFC have decided that females with flat chests can't possibly be older than 16.

Don't you just love the way society tries to improve the self esteem of women who don't conform to society's 'ideal'? :/

Humbug to confirmation! Out the pram they go.

This unfortunate state of affairs could have been avoided by superimposing some more substantial assets onto the offending background character. That'd pass in Canada!

Don't forget, the "actual" age of cartoon characters doesn't matter - they just have to look underage. So you could have some actual porn of a young-looking girl that was legal, and a cartoon artists adaptation of that porno would be illegal. Geniuses that came up with these laws, undeniably.

You know what's also sad? Andrew was acting on the side of getting Gundam Unicorn rated by the Dinosaur Empire and this happens, sending a HUGE warning flag to any american company in that regard.

Allow me to play devil's advocate for a second,

I think you'll all agree shot is pretty unnecessary with regards to the story of the episode, so although, in context, it could fall under exemption for being regarded as part of the work as a whole, it doesn't add anything to the plot etc, and the shot in question was probably designed to *ahem* "titillate" considering the arbitrary half naked girls.

As such, while I agree it's a bit OTT to remove it, I can see why they did, and why much stronger stuff has been passed, for example, the girl undressing in Paranoia Agent was passed, because it was an integral part of that character story showing her father was a pervert. I'm aware that was obviously pre-CP law, but since the aim of that scene was to evoke shock/revulsion I don't think it would be cut.

And again in Elfen Lied (yes, I know, also pre-law) the kid...who's name I forget, whose father was a paedophile made her undress (Can't remember if that was onscreen though) but again that was part of the plot, or the character's story.

So to sum up, while I think it's OTT of them, they were in their rights to do so, since I personally think (knowing the highly fanservice oriented CG creators) it was intended to be fanservice and didn't establish anything (and was a generally pointless scene entirely).

But again, I'm being AWFULLY generous to the BBFC.

@Sparrow - I can understand you saying one thing; that you can see why it doesn't ruin the episode to remove what is in effect a fan-service shot. But surely this is just more proof that it was simply a throwaway scene with no real meaning, and certainly not 'likely to encourage an interest in underage sexual activity'.

I'd sum it up this way: If the character in question is indeed a child then they are knee-jerking to a very bad law. If her age is ambiguous, then they are not only knee-jerking to a very bad law but basing their judgement in doing so on their own preconceptions.

This is nothing less than a battle for self-ownership. Are you in control of what you can see and do, or is someone else? They are the ones who deserve your anger, the ones who restrain you and don't believe you capable of thinking for yourselves. Down with elitist control systems. Down with censorship. Down with the BBFC.

(Can I get a 'Sieg Zeon' here?)

regarding Elfen Lied, you do see the child undress on screen sparrow, the molestation was of course, off screen
I dunno, by the time the kid was on all fours (and I assume this is the same kid, Elfin Lied is that sort of show) it was painful clear what was going to happen.

Not saying the BBFC should censor such things (It in no way glorify the act for one thing) but that's my side of that argument.
