Still takes time to retrieve the video assets and author a DVD alas...

This could be a dumb question, but couldn't you just replicate the DVD from Funi's collection? Get the master from Funimation and send it off to the replicators?

I think he meant author a brand new disc with just the extras on. Funi's DVD would also have the episodes on.

It seems the extras are spread over at least disc 4 and 5 of Funimation's set. Throwing two random DVDs in that might contain episodes alongside the special features seems haphazard.

It says 21-24 + extras so all the extras may be on the BD

Right, I found the details.

DVD Disc 4:
  • OVA
  • Textless Opening Song (Series)
  • Textless Ending Song (OVA)
  • On-Screen Text Reference Guide
  • U.S. Trailer
  • Trailers (aka Funi trailers)

DVD Disc 5:
  • Key Scenes Gallery #1-12
  • Opening with Lyrics
  • Promo Clip
  • The Adventures of Minoru Shiraishi Parts 1-11
  • English Voice Cast Interviews Parts 1-3

Blu-ray Disc 3:
  • OVA
  • Lucky Racer "Checker Flag in Akibahara & Lucky Racer Highlight"
  • Radio Kansai's Public Recording of "New Lucky Channel"
  • On-Screen Text Reference Guide
  • U.S. Trailer
  • Trailers (aka Funi trailers)

Maybe if they just threw Disc 5 in? Most the the extras are on that one, we'd only be missing two.

That's more possible, watch this space...

Usually I'd complain about the lack of NCOP/ED sequences, but it appears Funi have left the original Japanese OP/ED sequences in this time around so I'm more than happy just to have that. (Thank god. Funi need to stop ruining these.)
Not entirely sure why these were not included on the Blu-ray though. "HD" versions were included on the JP BD Box, and with Funi's encoding they usually only take up around 250mb per file.

When I checked a site reviewing the set, they said most of the extras were probably SD upscaled to 1080i with the Lucky Racer being the only one in HD.
All extras are in 1080i. I think the Lucky Racer stuff was filmed in HD, the rest probably used SD sources. The concert on the last two discs used a HD source.

Apologies if I missed this already being mentioned, but the French release of The Case of Hana & Alice is scheduled for September 21st. Collector's Edition listed, but it appears to only have a '16 page artbook and 3 cards'. It's disappointing that none of the live action films appear to be included, but I suppose that was a long shot wish on my part anyway.

Wow this forum doesn't like the French link at all. Strange.

EDIT: Fixed the link. The URL code doesn't like the French symbols; è ê so replace them with e.

I thought AL had already confirmed back when they announced they had the animated film that the live action film would, sadly, not be included.

They did say that they hadn't licensed it, but I'd hoped that they'd go out and do so regardless of any delay. There was no indication that they'd look into it though, I'll admit. There's also the series of short films that were the basis of the feature film.

It's a shame that Anime Limited don't seem interested in relevant live action media. I'd definitely have been interested in a Hana and Alice ultimate edition that contained the anime and live action version.

And then there's Terror in Resonance, which really did not need an Ultimate Edition. Good anime, but I'm of the opinion that Ultimate Editions should be saved for movies and series that have more than just one cour.

Actually - I was interested but the issue lies in the rights situation for the film. The shorts that were a basis for the feature too were used as adverts so are the property of the company that commissioned them :).

I believe it's an 18 page booklet but materials for the film were sparse on the ground (I know as I'm the one running designs for the project).

For The Murder Case of Hana and Alice too - as much as an Ultimate would have made me especially happy, it's just not a likely candidate for the range on a commercial level. I took that gamble with Giovanni's Island which came with a LOT more data to make one (aka the booklet) and got burned in terms of sales on a title I believed was worth doing it on - Hana & Alice kind of falls into the same realm of love but difficult to do for that :(.
