  • All titles, with the exception of Fairy Tail and the sub-only DVD-only titles (like Rainy Cocoa), will be a Blu-ray & DVD Combo Pack.

    And no LEs :(

  • Where there is a Funimation LE we'll replicate it (see Assassination Classroom and Rage of Bahamut) and where we really feel passionately that it needs a Collector's Edition that doesn't fit any of the US versions - we'll move it to the Anime Ltd range on licensing to do that. Some of the shows that qualified so far are Claymore, Empire of Corpses, Harmony, Eden of the East, Psycho-Pass, Blood Blockade Battlefront, Lucky Star and more to come in Q4.

Hope that helps! Sadly though our experiments have shown that not all Funimation titles work as Collector's in the style of Anime Ltd so that's why there is a degree of differentiation too. We're not trying to be harsh, just to filter it between what works as released in the USA and what would be cool if done differently :).

Are there any titles you feel are missing as LE's there that we may have missed in the first round of shows under this system :)?

Whilst you're here Andrew, could you confirm something about your Lucky Star release? It's come out that Funi's US release has DVD exclusive extras, not found on the Blu Ray. This isn't a huge issue in the US because they're getting a combo pack however, your release is just Blu Ray. Are we going to be missing extras or will you include a DVD with the DVD exclusive bonuses on it?

This was the subject of some debate. It doesn't really matter, except for my anorak-ness, but is Assassination Classroom a Funimation title or an Anime Limited title?

Technically a Funimation one, it's just hiding...sorry!

I've heard this report but I am trying to drill down what is actually split between discs. Ours is meant to be a copy of the Blu-Ray specifically so we can spend the cash on making a nicer box and edition for folks - but if there's something groundbreaking on DVD only (which would be rather weird) then I'll see what we can do, it would definitely mean delays though.

Hmm, I see. Honestly, I think I'd rather forgo the extras for a speedier release (Just my preference anyway, I've been waiting a long time for Lucky Star to come back in print), but obviously that's down to you guys at the end of the day. Thanks for the reply!

Does this mean AL will not be targeting FUNi titles anymore they will just release clones of US sets?

No.

The Funi UK titles will end up being clones of the US sets if they decide to offer the titles a special treat.

The ones that Anime Limited have licensed like Love Live! Sunshine!! (a Funi title) will have their own treatment. They can go after Funimation titles if they like.

A LE for Highschool DxD Born would be great if possible, Funi's always sells out fast so i would have thought it would be a good seller for you.

What's the situation for Highschool DxD New (Season 2)? It hasn't had a UK release but you're releasing Born (Season 3).

Also are the Funi UK titles getting slipcovers like how they're released in the USA, couldn't see any mention of it in the newswire.

Will AL or FUNi UK get Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-Chan?

I'm pretty sure AL licensed it when it was airing, we'll probably see more news once the Q4 schedule is announced.

No one has the rights to The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan here in the UK. Funimation also only have US/CA rights to the show.

Ah ok, my mistake then. For some reason i had it in my head AL licensed it when it was airing but a quick search shows nothing of that so no idea where i got that idea from

No worries, it's pretty confusing considering they have the first season and let's be honest Andrew will probably get their hands on Nagato Yuki-chan anyway.

Still takes time to retrieve the video assets and author a DVD alas...

This could be a dumb question, but couldn't you just replicate the DVD from Funi's collection? Get the master from Funimation and send it off to the replicators?
