UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

I thought they're supposed to be an episode count of the show.
I wasn't really referring to anything that's actually on a release, it's just another potential spine feature that I've seen people have issues with.

Saying that, it occurs to me that Anime Limited may well be making a release with collection numbering on the spine since it seems that their Zavvi exclusive steelbook release of Perfect Blue will include that (though I suppose that may be subject to change). That maybe makes my comment seem like something of a dig at Anime Limited, which wasn't what I'd intended.

I suppose I just didn't put enough thought/effort into it.

So Anime Limited are releasing Mobile Suit Gundam: The Movie Trilogy in France on Blu-ray.

Please can we get the movie on Blu-ray here in the UK? Thank you.

What.

Please Andrew, give the Brits a second chance.

Do we think there's an audience for the movie trilogy less than a year after the series was released on BR? I pre-ordered the series and haven't gotten around to watching it yet so don't plan to buy the movies. I understand that the film are meant to be a better retelling of the story, but I'm not rebuying it so soon. Maybe further down the line once they've released some different Gundam shows on BR, I may be willing to revisit it.

Even if you think it's not worth the effort to put it out and reclassify it in the UK, could you maybe talk to your pals at Sunrise and put English subs (and dub) on the French set?

Apparently, they tanked in the UK upon their first release and that's why Andrew chose the main series instead of the films. I believe (though there are Gundam experts who would know better) the films are officially considered to override the series in UC canon. So it'd be a shame if it isn't available in some form.

My position on Gundam:

I will buy any and every UC series/movie/OVA on blu-ray (if it's DVD you can forget it) if AL release it with Sunrise and will most likely buy any other MSG series outside of UC also. However, I do stress my wish to be able to have all of UC on Blu-ray, I think that is a must if this to be a true partnership between Sunrise and western distributors on brining Gundam to this side of the world.

No. Because I love releasing on one territory and not the other! Alternatively sure thing ;).

I'm not saying "Don't release it", just that there should be a couple of years before releasing it. Or at least once the series BR is out of print. I'd rather have other series released first and not have this bump any of the other shows further down the line.

I'd buy the movies on blu-ray in an instant. I will be buying any Gundam blu-rays released in the UK and treating any that are DVD-only despite HD masters existing as unavailable.

I can't say I'll be too upset about stuff going DVD-only. (It would probably help me financially, and I'm selfish :p)

That said, if you pull a Nozomi and use SD masters to create the DVD, instead of the HD remasters, I shall be out...

Did they use the SD masters for Turn A?

I can't say with any certainty, but word at the time was that Turn A had been sourced from the SD masters and not the shiny HD version Sunrise has. So even if they can't clear BD, if they can get the HD remaster, it'll be worth the wait.

Thats true i wouldnt be happy if I bought it and had a SD Version when a BD version exists

Yeah, I can accept that not every title is going to sell enough for BD or Sunrise might not want to authorise BD versions for stuff that's still selling well in Japan. That's disappointing, but not a big deal. However, at least try and make the DVD the best you possibly can.
