Id have a Ce of SMC thats very recent.

I considered listing SMC as an exception, but I don't really hear that much about it these days, other than it being an unfortunate example of Toei's exceptionally low standards.

I would probably buy a CE of Seraph of the End if Andrew put Guren's eyebrows somewhere on the box. More seriously I think that could have a rather good special edition since WIT are so proactive and interested in the foreign fan community. The plot is absolute tripe but the visual side is nice and I can easily imagine some nice booklets. The series is still quite new and shiny, plus there's the manga coming out in English as well for broader appeal.

Also, vampires.

The BDs fix most animation problems adaption problems are eh but it would sell, its sailor moon.

Maybe SM has enough fans to swing it. However as you've pointed out, Toei fixing animation problems is great, but it won't remove the other huge shortcuts they take, like that minute long staring montage from an early episode of World Trigger...

To Love Ru might do well in the sales (Shonen Jump + Ecchi madness) however the problem lies with the BBFC due to the lewd-ness of Darkness Season 1 & 2.
I was actually thinking about To Love Ru a few days ago as a potential High School DxD replacement for Manga/Animatsu (due to the Sentai relationship), but concluded that it would ultimately most likely be too risky for a number of factors. Even though it was a Shonen Jump title, Viz Media never localised it into English and the next season will be 8 years old next year; making it a very old series to take a risk on - and that's before we even consider the lewdness of To Love Ru Darkness.

I can think of a fair few shows where it's unlikely people would want a CE. I know it's not an AL title but something like Samurai Bride (which I own, in the interest of transparency :D) is more of a 'filler' show which very few people would be excited enough to buy a CE for. Gimmicky tat like the infamous Shuffle! panties perhaps, since the bundle would make a fun gift that way, but the kind of people who would get excited about some of the more intelligent bonus material for that kind of show probably bought the JP version long ago. And number in the double digits at best in this country.

Niche slice of life shows, weird comedies, artsy psychological shows, high quality action; I can imagine all of these having a hardcore paying audience who would support a special edition. Even shounen titles can probably drum up enough interest to shift CEs - the younger audience will go for cheap editions but the older, richer young-at-heart fans are still out there buying up Viz's premium Naruto manga wooden boxes and other wallet-killing goodies.

I'd just rather not see them license titles that don't fit the collectors bill and leave the rest between Manga and MVM, but I suppose that's leaving cash on the table if you're AL so I can see why they'd want to expand in to that market.

I usually see AL as licensors of good to excellent anime, I wouldn't want to see them start licensing fan service crap

As a rule, anything I buy myself and release as an Anime Ltd title will end up as a Collector's of some format. However more often nowadays you end up with a package of titles where you're left pondering how best to approach several of the items in it asides from the ones you wanted. In that kind of case - they're not bad titles but don't necessarily fit into what we're doing in the Anime Limited range - so in that kind of scenario having a separate brand to manage it could be helpful for everyone - kind of like what Arrow Films do to separate out works (Arrow Films | Arrow Academy | ArrowDrome for example).

At anyrate - the idea of no confusion of the type of release and quality of the show you will get is important to me (filler shows have their place in the market too and we're guilty fans of a few of them here, but it doesn't mean we'd rush a Collector's version of them either)! The issue is always (and we do it anyway right now) evaluating what makes a title viable for Collector's edition release. Nobody else did a Prisma Illiya one in the western world for example and while not a fast-seller for us, it isn't doing badly and Kat's really happy to have made it :).

TL;DR What I'd like to be sure if we do end up with any volume of shows like that from now on that standard versions are required at the start is you know what you'll get based on brand in part. Not actually in practice just now but I do believe it's important to know what you will get when a property is announced as coming out from Anime Ltd as a title :).

Just mulling out loud since it's come up!

Anime Limited is promising ANOTHER announcement at midday today

I'm not sure they're going to have anything left to announce at cons next year at this rate :p

I bet they have tons ~ if they are indeed Funi's new BFF then we can expect plenty of announcements related to that (like say Barakamon, Psycho Pass 2 and possibly even Lucky Star ~ c'mon Anime Ltd you can't leave that one hanging!)

In any case I'll make a speedy thread as per usual.

Can we also have one christmas day :p

edit - could be a license, could be a competition (but the wording is the same as the last license announcement so most likely the former)

Black Lagoon UE like Funimation released it.

Or Serial Experiments Lain.

I've made my mind up, Anime Limited will be announcing Black Butler: Book of Circus and the Book of Murder OVAs (one can dream right?)

That's possible as Anime Limited are good friends with Aniplex, plus there's a Black Butler movie presumably in the works (see Aniplex JP site).

Another possibly is the original Fullmetal Alchemist and Blu-ray versions of Darker Than Black.

Don't Manga have all the Black Butler stuff?

They have the first two seasons, but we all know that doesn't guarantee they'll get these things, don't destroy my dreams!

I'm sorry. I'm sure that those are what they're going to announce :p
