UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Where's my name twin hiding? She really wanted the DVD's so this announcement should make her super happy.

Gonna have to set up a new savings fund for these Ultimates, I want each one announced (& still haven't picked up FMP), oh dear :p

Original FMA? YES!

I massively prefer the original FMA to Brotherhood and it's one of my favourite anime (and one that shaped my tastes for the future), so I'm excited for an Ultimate Edition and will be throwing the money at it as soon as possible. I'm hopeful that the nice book FUNimation have comes our way. Hint hint, Andrew ;)

It's nice to see such a massive title get licensed by Anime Limited. Though I was secretly hoping that it would be a Spice and Wolf UE *winks*

However, since my interest lies in Brotherhood this likely won't be a pickup for me. I do wonder whether they'll create their own discs from the Japanese masters, or simply copy Funimation's. If i'm not mistaken they've done the latter before and it's not a practise that I can say that i'm all too positive about ( ̄_ ̄)...

So at some point, every anime distributor currently active in the United Kingdom has now handled the Fullmetal Alchemist property. I wonder if Manga UK still have the license to Conqueror of Shamballa though?

I assume you're putting Animatsu, Manga and Kaze all under the same umbrella there. Also, when did MVM do FMA? I thought the 03 series was Manga and ADV.

MVM was originally the main handler for Funimation titles. They had Chobits, Fullmetal Alchemist, Fruits Basket and a couple other titles. Then Funimation decided to get involved and partnered with Revelation, releasing the remaining 50-70% of the FMA series via Revelation rather than MVM. Then Funimation teamed up with Manga UK until recently.

Huh, never even heard of Revelation. I take it they didn't last too long? Really sounds like Funi have been around the distributor block. Makes me wonder how long this Anime Ltd partnership will last before they go swanning off with someone else

Volume 1-8 of Full Metal Alchemist was released by MVM on DVD up till September 2006. Then Funimation pulled their distribution agreement with MVM (the way they just did with Manga), and started releasing through Revelation Films from 2007. Revelation then released the final 5 volumes of FMA on DVD, then went back and re-released them in LE boxsets with those sweet booklets, then they released The Conqueror of Shamballa on DVD, then a year later the Limited Edition of that too.

Revelation and Funimation shared a parent company in Navarre back then, which made logistical sense if not logical sense. Revelation never got any decent numbers selling anime. Revelation distributed for Funimation from 2007 to mid 2009 with a whole lot of delays, but some sweet boxset releases. Manga started releasing for Funimation at the end of that year.

I actually own MVM's release of volumes 1-8 and it bugs me how Revelation Films decided to add the episode counts on the spine; which MVM didn't do :p

Pretty much. Manga UK and Animatsu are practically the same thing at this point and they handle the distribution of Kaze titles too.

I think I've seen and read too much FMA too many times at this point to be genuinely excited, but it certainly seems like an excellent acquisition.

if they are indeed Funi's new BFF then we can expect plenty of announcements related to that (like say Barakamon
There's no need to get me excited like this. :-/

Never seen FMA or brotherhood, will keep an eye on this but will probably be a pass from me. Not interested in the show.

If you (and everyone else) do decide to try out the series at any point in the future, I recommend starting with Fullmetal Alchemist first followed by Brotherhood.

The reason is because the 2003 adaptation adapts the original source material at a good pace before going into the original storyline. Brotherhood rushes through most of what the 2003 adaptation has adapted until it gets to new material in which the pacing starts to slow down.

Agree, or you could watch the first 20 odd episodes of the original before jumping to ep 14 of Brotherhood. Never liked that Brotherhood skips the coalmine especially as that story has a recurring character.

If they have formed an agreement with Funimation it wouldn't surprise me if they announce a UE of FMA.

Aw bless, I've seen loads of lovely theories like this today! Hate to break it to folks but the license for the UK lapsed from Funimation a while ago so we bought the rights directly from Aniplex Japan actually :).

So whatever we do is between Aniplex and us, not Funimation :).
