UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Pretty sure a lot of companies use yellow.

I think it's normally just Sentai and Siren Visual from what I've seen. Maybe Kaze too, but I don't own any of their releases.

That said, I think FUNimation's unique typeface and ridiculously small font size (as used on Danganronpa) might be even worse than yellow subs.

I think if Manga have fallen out with FUNi and AL are their new BFF they'd be silly not to go for the rights to High School DxD. Not everyone's cup of tea but it sold really good from what I've read. And we wouldn't have to import 'New' or 'BorN' pretty please? Or Haganai?

Anime limited need to show some love to the harem genre! (apart from SAO).

Well they've already started going into harems thanks to Brothers Conflict.

I like FUNi subs they are much much better than senate's imo.

With the invention of Blu ray discs and HD 4K TVs technology is indeed amazing. Films like Lord of the Rings have 30 something subtitle tracks and yet no one has figured out how to make font size and colour changeable on subs?!?! Why aren't scientists trying to fix this!!!!

It must be difficult to think up good names for brands/ranges, especially if you want them to be associated with the main company/brand while still making it clear that they offer something different. Anime Limited is a nice, simple and obvious kind of name but I'd imagine that might make it even more difficult.

I guess another difficulty might be in how wide a range of titles each brand should cover. I have no idea how Sentai Selects has worked for Sentai (I'd guess maybe not badly since they still seem to be using it) but from a customer point of view it doesn't really seem to have hard limits on what will appear. Possibly the only criteria there is that the title is an older one and probably with a niche audience/appeal (which applies to an awful lot of shows). I guess it's okay to have a kind of "budget" range but I prefer when it's called something a bit more blatant.

I wouldn't object to them releasing either show, though I'm not sure they'd be great options since I believe every Funimation release of those shows is Region B compatible. If fanservice shows really aren't doing so well with the casual market that could also make them a tougher sell.

Sort of related to both points, I'd imagine that many fans who are casual but not so much that they don't pay attention to brands probably tend to think of Anime Limited as being the company that does expensive releases that aren't really for them. It might be interesting if Anime Limited could establish a brand that appeals more to these kinds of fans by providing decent content that they can afford. I guess there'll be complaints with whatever they do since some people will want a fancy release for every show and some will want the cheaper option right away.

I'm guessing that the Genius Parties are going to get an Ultimate Edition release, considering the wealth of material out there. Both of the Siren Visual releases were 2 discs, and the Japanese release of Genius Party Beyond is a 4 disc blow-out with PROJECT GENIUS | THE MAKING across an additional two discs, a PROJECT GENIUS | THE MAKING BOOK of interviews and a 500+ page storyboard books for each film. I'd imagine that replicating that would bankrupt AL, but it would certainly be great to get it sans storyboards. Ditch the 'Next Genius' competition winning shorts in favour of some other Studio 4C shorts - especially Noiseman Sound Insect and Eternal Family.

Mind Game got a pretty exceptional release in Japan too...

The font is fine, but the font size is so small that I had to squint to read them whilst watching Danganronpa.

Well anime puts too many episodes on a disc *cough* gundam *cough

Warner Bros.' 13.5 episodes worth (5.4 hours) of Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic on a single disc are waving at you and telling you to shush...

I can't decide whether to laugh or cry when I see Japanese sets with something like 3 or 4 episodes on a disc. It's a cynical exercise to unnecessarily increase the cost and percieved value/quality. Sony put their 4K restoration of Lawrence of Arabia on one disc and not one minute of its near-4 hour running time looks anything less than stunning. Masters of Cinema split 10 hours of Shoah across two BD50s.

Anime Limited is promising ANOTHER announcement at midday today

https://twitter.com/AllTheAnime/status/ ... 5128323073

I'm not sure they're going to have anything left to announce at cons next year at this rate :p

I bet they have tons ~ if they are indeed Funi's new BFF then we can expect plenty of announcements related to that (like say Barakamon, Psycho Pass 2 and possibly even Lucky Star ~ c'mon Anime Ltd you can't leave that one hanging!)

In any case I'll make a speedy thread as per usual.

That's all I need. The moment Barakamon gets announced (as I have faith) everything else becomes irrelevant.

That would actually be a good show to release via standards in the UK (following on from the previous conversation), the market is there & season 1 is out on basic. Someone needs to get that out, too popular to sit on.

Son of a....
I just bought the FMA set from the USA (and received it today). Typical license announcement. :)
Looks like I'll be selling that on for Anime Limited's version.

Ultimate Edition Fullmetal Alchemist :D

Great announcement. I've never actually finished the original series, got about 30 episodes in, and even though Brotherhood is the true adaption, I will be getting this.

So that's Terror in Resonance, Eureka Seven, Escaflowne and Fullmetal Alchemist ultimate editions for next year! Calm down AL, I won't be buying a house until around 2018 at the earliest so I really don't have that much space :p

I'm going to keep it and get AL anyway

Luckily I only purchased the standard edition, so I'm not replacing an expensive edition.

I've made my mind up, Anime Limited will be announcing Black Butler: Book of Circus and the Book of Murder OVAs (one can dream right?)

That's possible as Anime Limited are good friends with Aniplex, plus there's a Black Butler movie presumably in the works (see Aniplex JP site).

Another possibly is the original Fullmetal Alchemist and Blu-ray versions of Darker Than Black.

Called it.
