Overlord (Japanese audio) - Episode 10

Overlord had some pacing issues which is a shame (Madhouse apparently tried to cram half a volume in one episode).

If only Shuka could have done that with Durarara!!x2: The Second Arc (Why did they change it from "Ten"?), would have made those first few episodes a heck of a lot less boring...

I forgot about those, mostly because I didn't realise they could be played on UK devices. I'm sure there will never be a UK release so those are very tempting indeed.
With MVM only releasing The New Files on DVD I gave in and bought them (to be fair, they said it was unlikely they'd be able to do the TV series anyway). I don't regret it at all, it's a great show.

I watched Michiko and Hatchin Episodes 9-15.

I'm still enjoying this a fair bit, there were some pretty good episodes in this group.

Still, I can't help feeling that there's something a little lacking in the show. I do like the characters and most of the stories are decent too but it feels like something is missing. I'd say it might be to do with the main story, I don't usually worry about that sort of thing but the main story for the show seems to be the relationship between Michiko and Hatchin and they seem to often end up spending a lot of time apart. It does feel like there's some development and the majority of the moments with the two together are great but they're also surprisingly rare. The majority of episodes seem to involve one or the other dealing with an outside person or situation and then they only regroup for brief moments.

It's kind of odd, it's not that it makes me dislike the show but sometimes it feels a little too much like we're not getting anywhere. It is a "wandering" kind of show but the lack of development in the main relationship can be frustrating. In fairness, it does feel like there's been some development but every time I think they've moved past a block it seems to still appear in a later episode. I guess it's realistic in some ways since they're trying to struggle through an unusual situation and their personalities aren't the most compatible but at the same time it feels a little too much like some of the development is just occasionally forgotten.

Anyway, I'm still enjoying the show but it feels like it's not quite reaching it's potential (which I think is quite high, though that makes it all the more frustrating).

Hunter x Hunter - Episodes 11 & 12 (and probably 13 next, but that's a recap):
Kinda disappointing to see Leorio go back to being stupid again, but I did laugh at the "mistake I do not regret" scene.

I know I shouldn't, but I nearly died laughing at Gon, Killua and Karupika emerging from the chamber and Killua's first line being "my butt hurts". I really do have the mental age of a child. :p

Also, it wasn't just last episode, the dialogue is really low in the audio mix for some reason and I'm finding it hard to distinguish. Hopefully they tweaked the levels for home video or something, because this is quite annoying.

I've watched the first few eps of Charlotte, and I thought it had some promise; I liked the concept even if it was a bit silly. But I've got bored since it started to settle into a "mutant of the week" style structure. Does it ever open up into a proper story, or does it just carry on like this? I really can't handle shows with semi self contained episodic structures.

Watched the first 4 episodes of From the New World. Visually this looks great and has some really good music. Had no real idea what the show was about but the plot and background to the world has me hooked.

From The New World is such a stunning show - I haven't really seen much else that's quite like it, every time they play a snippet of Dvorak's From The New World too, it totally chokes me up - it just fits the gorgeous pastoral visuals so well.

Around episode 5/6, whichever one is called "Happy You Did Not Notice", it goes into a serialised story. (Although, I suppose you could argue each episode is still self-contained.)

My enjoyment of Charlotte went something like:

Eps 1-2 - Fantastic start
Eps 3-5 - Kind of average
Eps 6-7 - Getting really good again
Eps 8-9 - The best of the series imo

I would have gone (for Charlotte):
Ep 1-5 - Great
Ep 6-7 - Amazing, both contenders for best episode of the year
Ep 8 - Great
Ep 9-10 - WHAT THE HELL WHERE THEY THINKING?! (and not in a good way)

It's never bad, but something happens during episode 9 that just disappointed me immensely, and the show has been 'good, not great' ever since.

Yu-Gi-Oh GX (Subbed)-Episodes 20-22

Episode 20: Decent episode. Kind of surreal seeing the monsters from the cards fall in love. Again, I'm just waiting until this show starts having a plot. Hope it isn't too long but at 180 episodes I have the feeling it's going to take it's time...

Episode 21: I quite liked this episode. This show's best episodes seem to be it's 2 part episodes so I'm glad they seem fairly plentiful. It's pretty cool watching a deck being used against Judai that specifically designed to negate his fusion monsters. Looking forward to watching the next episode to see how it pans out.

Episode 22: Another good episode and a good conclusion to the dual. There needs to be more episodes like these last two where instead of some random person showing up with an issue that is solved by dueling, the duels have personal weight behind them and actual stakes.

Non Non Biyori Repeat-Episodes 9 and 10

Episode 9: Decent episode. Natsumi is probably my least favourite character out of the main 4 so that alone kind of made the episode a bit below average for me. It still had it's moments though.

Episode 10: Miles better episode. I always love it when the show highlights the relationship between Candy Store and Renge, those episodes are always fantastic and this was no exception.

I really need to watch more Anime but Phantom Pain is really eating into my time.

Interesting, I thought you might be a Nattsun fan. I guess she lacks the Genki of Karen (that's probably more Renge's thing when she gets fired up).

It does feel a bit like Nattsun gets the least development, she's usually just involved in making trouble for someone else. I guess there have been more opportunities for her in this season, with this episode plus the rain episode earlier.

You should probably get that checked out.

Kodocha episodes 49 - 51

And that is the end of the English releases, so unless the remaining 2 seasons are available on one of the many available streaming sites, looks like I will say goodbye.

Only taken me 5 years to watch it :p

If I had to pick a favourite it would probably be Hotarun. I just love how she's kind of shy and naive, it's really endearing. She's also quite fun to watch and, needless to say, cute. In terms of comparisons to Kinmoza, I'd say Natsumi has more in common with Yoko.

My opinion of charlotte went like this:
first half of episode 1: OMFG this is ******* hilarious. I missed you lulu!
2-5: meh waiting for bad stuff
6: I used some logic for this one (or was it at the end of 5...).
Ayumi=sick (1)
Writer=jun medea (2)
(2)-(1)=me=shouting at screen "you gonna die!" XD

7: okay this was quite entertaining.
8:meh engrish
9 and 10: Some of the powers are cool I guess.

If you don't like the show, why watch it?

Loads of people love and obsess over Gatchaman Crowds, like it's the second coming of Jesus Christ. I'm not planning to watch it again, because no matter how many people like it, that show was genuinely painful to watch. I don't see what the appeal would be in watching a boring or unlikeable show longer than necessary.

I don't hate it that's the thing. Also one of my friends is watching it. But yeah if it wasn't seasonal I wouldn't have bothered :p
I'm sure there are shows that I really really like that you hate.

I'm sure you said elsewhere that you didn't like it. Must have been somebody else.

The Gatchaman Crowds comment was just an example of a show I watched recently, that I hated and everyone else loved. I thought I'd seen a different show at the time, but it turns out GC is quite marmite and the people that hate it tend not to go on about it as much...
