I'm sure you said elsewhere that you didn't like it. Must have been somebody else.

The Gatchaman Crowds comment was just an example of a show I watched recently, that I hated and everyone else loved. I thought I'd seen a different show at the time, but it turns out GC is quite marmite and the people that hate it tend not to go on about it as much...
I probably did XD. Don't like=/=hate tho.

Macross eps 28-36

Always found it rather obvious that these back nine episodes were not part of the original series order. There's a jarring batch of episodes where you get the distinct impression that they weren't entirely sure what to do with the new episodes after they wrapped up the main threat in ep 27. Still, they manage to pull things back around nicely in the last 4/5 episodes by bringing the Hikaru/Misa story back to the fore.

All in all, still my favourite anime ever :thumb:

I've got the last eight episodes of City Hunter 2 left. I didn't do any updates on the previous episodes but I doubt anybody cares. 55 episodes later, and the show is still amazing, but that shouldn't come as a surprise. I don't know if I posted the second OP, but its awesome

On the contrary qaiz, I added City Hunter to my watch list based on your reviews :thumb:

Hah that's awesome, I'm glad. I guess I'm just the self deprecating type of person. I actually wrote a few thousand words on the subsequent episodes after my last update but never got around to posting them, and now that I'm almost finished with the show 55 episodes later, there's no point. I guess I've said everything I needed to in regards to the show and I'll just finish it and write the final review when I'm done. After I finish, I probably won't be watching Part 3 straight away and will watch a few films and such and take a break from shows altogether for a week or two. Like with City Hunter, after I finished, I took a break from all things City Hunter so when I return a few months later, I have an appetite for it. I've got a lot of films to watch, one of which I'm kind of dreading to watch because it looks depressing and sad as hell :(

In regards to your comment on the last few episodes on Macross, when I watched the series way back when I didn't know the background in regards to the production of the series, but even so I could tell that after the main conflict, the tone changed a lot but even so like you said, it was entertaining to the end. It's a great series, I've only watched the OG Macross, DYRL and Flashback 2012. I don't fancy the look of the other Macross series if I'm honest.

It's a tough call, as they're all really good, but Sara is my favourite City Hunter OP. On the subject of the music though, one thing that did amuse me (which I should have mentioned before, on the grounds that it was the first ED for CH2) is that Yasuyuki Okamura, who sings Super Girl, went on to provide not only the theme tune for Space Dandy, but also many of his dance moves.

WARNING: Contains double denim.

Edit: Would also suggest giving Macross Plus a shot. It is both really good and short enough to make for easy viewing.

Hunter x Hunter - Episodes 14 & 15

The show is called Hunter x Hunter, and they've gone on and on about how Gon's father passed the hunter test age 12, it's bloody obvious Gon's going to pass the test, with that in mind, does every single task really need to be drawn out to 5 or 6 episodes?

City Hunter 2 (1988) - Finished (63 Episodes)

Finished City Hunter 2! What a beautiful, amazing show. From the first second I couldn't stop smiling from ear to ear, laughing the whole way through but as always it never failed to make me shed a few tears as I was invested in each and every character and each and every story-line, and the ending was amazing as you'd expect. The whole ensemble is fantastic, with no bad characters or weak-links, it really is a perfect show. 63 episodes of fantastic television packed with comedy, drama, action and of course mokkori! Look forward to my review! If you miss it, I'm going to give you the hammer!

Yeah like you say, every song including all of the OP and ED in City Hunter are just perfect, I don't intend to throw that word around aimlessly but I think that it's appropriate here. I think in the end, Sara might be my favorite too from the Openings, with Super Girl being my favorite Ending, but I do love them all a whole lot, and I mean that. I've not seen Dandy but that's an interesting tidbit. And please, don't diss the denim! City Hunter really is one of my favorite series of all time, it's just perfect from top to bottom, one of those series that I'll never forget. The premise is simple in each episode, but the way it presents itself is earnest and genuine. The music is fantastic, the animation is beautiful, the character designs are spot on...man I think I have a tear in my eyes, I can't believe that its over

City Hunter 3 is only 13 episodes which makes me even more upset, but I think that 13 episodes is enough to give me more City Hunter goodness, although judging by the OP City Hunter 3 has a little different vibe going on, but I'm digging it no doubt, the OP is awesome and puts a HUGE smile on my face :) I can't wait to jump in and watch it, '91 and the various other films and such. MOKKORI!

School-Live! (Gakkou Gurashi) (Japanese audio) - Episode 10

Oh dear, that just happened.

It's interesting to see that even animals can get infected. Resident Evil is the only series I've seen that does that.

Now then, when can we expect Yuki senpai to go into Berserk mode now that she notices the windows are broken?

I wonder if Right Stuf or Discotek will end up releasing City Hunter at some point. It seems like it might fit in with the Nozomi releases like Dirty Pair and Cat's Eye.

That's probably a good approach, especially with longer running series. I'm glad you got around to finishing it and posting your final thoughts, it's really whet my appetite for it. I've got Eva to finish and I'll probably work my way through some of the other Macross stories (II and DYRL). Then it's Gunbuster and I might try and fit City Hunter in there.

What's the movie you've got lined up btw?

The change in tone reminds me very much of Twin Peaks, where they resolved the Laura Palmer storyline and then visibly struggled in knowing where to go next. There was a lull, while they figured it out and then it came good again at the end. Macross is very similar. I also might not quite appreciate those episodes as much as I think it's there where Kaifun reaches the pinnacle of his douchebaggery.

I love the Macross franchise, and enjoy it all to varying degrees (even 7!), but you've definitely seen the best there is with those three. Macross is my favourite series. DYRL is my favourite movie. Flashback is my favourite bonus/extra/OVA.

Yeah I really loved City Hunter, I could talk about it forever but I'll try and leave that for the review. I may take a little time with my review because I want to have fun with it, give the show a nice send off as I wrap up my thoughts in a nice little package with a bow. The last time I watched Eva was...6 years ago? I've been scanning through the Blu-ray, mainly at EoE if I'm honest and good memories are resurfacing. A bit of a controversial statement (or not?), but I don't actually care for the first three quarters or so of EoE, its after the Mass production fight where I get pulled in. The first time I watched EoE I was amazed, but not so much now, which is a shame. I guess it goes to show how highly I think of the last quarter of the film, its a masterstroke of film-making.

I have a few films but the one I was talking about is called My Sister Momoko, its about a little girl who was born both mentally and physically disabled and is about her interactions with her brother. As weird as it does sound to say, it looks like something I'd enjoy, maybe enjoy isn't the right word, appreciate is a more appropriate one. As much as I like anime, I kind of hate it too and although I love shows like City Hunter, my heart no-doubt longs for more serious films and attempts at story telling.

Yeah, I might try Plus, but only if I get it on Blu-ray. I feel happy like you said with the Macross series I've seen. I love Flashback 2012, however the ending and the implications are pretty depressing when you read up on the aftermath of Macross and the fate of the characters.

Probably longer than that for me. I've held off on the rebuild movies until the final one surfaces. I'm not sure exactly when it was when I last saw the series or the movies. Long past due is all I know.

I actually rewatched EoE first from the BDs. It was the first thing I remuxed. I still enjoy it, but yeah, the latter part of the movie is just incredible. I've finished muxing the series now so I'm working my way through. Up to episode 5 so far, and really enjoying it again!

I know what you're saying. Part of me thinks that that sounds like a potentially wonderful piece of film-making, but the other part wonders what kind of mess I'd be in at the end of it.

One of the reasons I love anime, the broad range it covers. It annoys me when it's pigeon-holed as one of the two extremes - tentacle porn or kiddy fare. No matter what I was in the mood for, I could find anime to suit.

I have to admit, I've never quite seen the popularity of Plus. Don't get me wrong, it's good, I just couldn't say that it was as incredible as a lot of folks seem to think it is. The BD is good. The international version is on there so you can watch the English dub if it takes your fancy.

Re Flashback - you're right of course. It's a bittersweet viewing experience if you know where the story goes and seemingly ends. Kawamori has repeatedly stated that that story is done, so the chances of us ever finding out anything more seem remote. A shame on the one hand, but a brave decision on the other I guess.

I still think the concert sequence in Macross Plus is one of the finest moments in anime ever - it helps that the soundtrack is divine right the way through too. It's just always struck me as a film that deals with very timeless themes (as much of Macross does), but also obviously ended up being very perceptive too in its anticipation of virtual idols.

It's got so many great things going on it it, but for my money, the concert sequence alone is worth the money.

Now that I DEFINITELY agree with. I'd intended to mention that the one thing that I absolutely do love about Plus is the soundtrack, and you're right, the concert is stunning.

I was going to hold off on the rebuild films too, but ended up watching them all when 3.33 released on Blu-ray. It’s funny because coincidently 6 years ago was the last time I watched Bebop too, and even-though I got the Blu-ray day one when it released, I have yet to re-watch it. I don't want to talk about the Rebuild films as to sully your experience, I just hope that you enjoy them when you watch them and I commend your iron will.

Don't worry, I'll take the hit and watch it and I'll let you know how it is when I'm done wiping away my tears :p Like you say, the reason I gravitate towards anime is the fact that the creators don't treat animation any different to live action and its vast in the stories it tells with the added benefit of being animated and thus imaginative and unique in its visuals. The way the creators and animators manipulate and camera dynamically is hard to replicate in live action without resorting to computer graphics. Of course with both animation and live action, the joy comes from realizing the straights and weaknesses from the medium and manipulating them. An example in End of Eva is how they used digital composition in the scene where the Mass production Eva's are being deployed due to the fact that having all nine carriers moving independently means that they'd need 9 cel layers, which would make everything too opaque. I find that **** fascinating. It’s crazy how many limitations are in place preventing them from doing things.

I do like anime, but a lot of it I do hate, maybe most of it.

Agreed.

Makes sense, Cat's Eye was made by the same person after all :) It'd be cool if they got ahold of it, they have Cobra too.
