Suddenlythe main enemy, Galatea, appears out of nowhere without much build-up. I thought the story was going well until that point. I'll finish the series anyway, in case the main plot improves.

I'm not sure how I feel about it, I miss the cheesy 80s music of the original and I'm not sure the character designs are as good either - but I like that they take it in a darker direction, even if the show gets a bit aimless at points with battle scenes that drag on for too long.
Also, Nene just makes me laugh all the time.

It's always nice to hear other opinions!
Some areas have improved from the original OVA like the character development. I like Linna more as a character, she is the most realistic and level-headed member. Other changes, like Sylia's personality, is a bit much. There's a bit too much focus on Macky for my liking. I am picky though. I agree that the music is awful compared to the great 80's music. And those character designs...I'll say no more. I'm watching the dub version and it's really not that bad but I just can't help comparing it the original series. I'm a bit disappointed with the storyline so far as it has some great ideas with conspiracy theories and then ends up falling flat. I have hope that the last few episodes will tie everything together.

Hmm. Admittedly, I haven't seen Gall Force, but I'm always wary of banging the drum too much for the original BGC oavs. Outside of the godly soundtrack, I think they're more interesting for what they say about anime production during the boom years, than they are successful as a coherent sci-fi narrative.
