Jokes aside Noein ~to your other self~ arrived from Anime Limited's Day 11 sale. £4.99 is a bargain. The set itself is like taking Funimation's limited edition but instead of DVDs and Blu-ray-sized cases you instead have a digipack for the Blu-ray discs only. The Blu-ray discs are A|B compatible and also have locked subtitles.
 
Went Christmas shopping for my niece and nephews gifts today and thought "Hey, I've been good this year and even today with all these ignorant assholes in this shopping centre I've managed to not punch anyone in the throat for stopping dead right in front of me, I deserve a present for myself....", so I picked up a PS4 Pro. I'll be honest I keep looking at the state of this box and wondering if they've gave me a second hand one >_> probably being paranoid but I wouldn't put it past game tbh.

I already have Destiny 2 but this one comes with the season pass (apparently anyway, I can't see it) so if it's actually there I'll keep that for myself and give away the game, I've also been wanting to play Prey too as everyone I know who's played it loved it. No idea what the other thing is, pack in garbage no doubt.

I also picked these up in HMV. I kinda wanted the CE of Blade Runner but I just couldn't justify the extra £15 tbh. Now all I need is a 4k BD player and a 4k TV lol TV I'll probably get next month as I wanna do some research on that first.

Yeah I noticed that as well with Blade Runner. It does somewhat make up for the asking price considering you have all of the versions included on the set (Ultra HD Blu-ray disc is just the Final Cut, the Blu-ray disc as the rest).
 
Nov/Dec purchases. Wish I could of picked up more of AL's sale but between my partners birthday and Christmas I didn't have a lot of extra funds, sadly :(

I think it would be very risky for them to do so - Not for games, which I can totally see them doing away with discs for, but because by stopping people from watching their existing media collections they’d be abandoning the whole idea that consoles can be one-stop media hubs.

I think Sony have shot themselves in the foot a bit by not supporting 4k discs, especially on the Pro. Let’s not forget it was being pretty much the cheapest Blu-ray player you could buy on release that gave the PS3 an edge, now MS are offering the Xbox One S for a hundred quid less than the price of the PS4 Pro and comparable in price to most 4k players. The idea of having to shell out an extra £150-£200 to play 4K discs on top of the price of a PS4 Pro by comparison isn’t particularly attractive. I think the same would be true if all consoles stopped playing discs.
 
“4k streaming” is such a massive con though. I mean streaming can barely handle middling quality 1080p. And the file sizes of most “1080p” streaming movies would fit on a DVD they’re so compressed. But if your point was that the plebs have low standards then I totally agree (though I imagine a lot of the same people would be pissed off the PS5/Xbox F can’t play their old DVDs).

Edit: As if to ram this home, my Netflix decided to degenerate into looking like a slideshow of digital photographs from a 0.2 megapixel camera. I'm on a 100mb/s connection. As always there's no way to tell it to wait and buffer, and they appear to have removed the Shift+Alt+Click stream settings! Awesome.

I fully expect the PS5 to have 4K blu ray as standard. There is too much of a risk and internet access / speeds are too variable throughout the world. It would severely limit its appeal. Not to mention external issues it would cause regarding the used game market and potential monopolistation of game sales.

I do expect it to be the last gen consoles with physical media support.

Gosh German Anime prices at spartan packaging. At least the chipboxes are shiny. I would have also liked to get this on BD (the Japanese box kind of looks nice too), but there was no way I'd pass on that dubbed opening song.

This is just such a classic piece of childhood that does well even more than 17 years after it was first broadcasted here. And the German dubbed song's one of the few "way better than the original" cases as its lyrics make this one of the best bright optimistic motivatingly inspiring songs out there for children and those who lost their childhood. (The Japanese song is great, too, But with those lyrics I can't shake of the feeling, that it totally is song about a couple in love facing the future after having seen some defeats.) The only catch about the German one is, that it clearly has "Digimon" as a word integrated into the lyrics. No listening to this in public without totally outing yourself to be an Otaku. =/
(And such a shame das Digimon Tri's storytelling is such a lackluster.)

Yet another German one, at which price I probably could have bought the whole show in English. I had not planned this. But I have been hovering over this for at least half a year. This show is even completely out of my comfort zone and for years I wouldn't bother with it. But damn it Animoon, why'd you make the rabbit glaring at me like this? Of course the rabbit nerd in me would yield to it sooner or later!
(And then they go and do the same for Usagi Drop. Let's see how long I can resist that one...)
