What did you RECEIVE today? PHOTOS EDITION!

I have to admit The Fifth Element is one of my favourite movies ever - it's always struck me as a very anime-esque movie too in its visual style and blend of hard sci-fi space opera with more comic, OTT elements. But yeah, fantastic stuff and I'd file it up there with Blade Runner and Brazil as one of the definitive must-see sci-fi films.

I don't know if you've ever read any of The Incal comics by Moebius and Jodorowsky, but they were clearly inspiration for The Fifth Element (Moebius even worked on the film as a preproduction artist, but Jodorowsky actually tied to sue Besson for the similarities). It's definitely nice to have a vision of a future so different from a lot of sci-fi fare, and the characters really do make that film.

Nikita has edged out Leon for my number one Besson movie over time. There's something slightly more raw and grimy about it, plus the music and the way it's used... The restaurant scene in particular (serious spoilers) has got to be up there as one of the greats.

I loved 5th Element when I saw it. Besson is my boyfriend's favourite director. We're trying to find an uncut copy of Nikita... I'll have to look into those comics ayase.

love Leon. Love the directors cut. Love 5th element. Multipass!
Speaking of Jodorowsky have you seen the film "Holy Mountain"...? My head exploded... I wish Dune materialized. Either the Jodorowsky version or the rumoured but cancelled one. Although maybe the material would be more suited to a series like Game of Thrones...

As busy as I've been the last couple of weeks, I did manage to remember to update my card details on an outstanding Amazon JP order:

Now I just have to wait out the rest of my work day so I can do more than open the packaging. :D

The Incal is excellent and most of Moebius' comics in general are great, just make sure you don't get the horrible, horrible censored and recoloured versions that were put out a little while ago.

I wasn't even aware there was a cut version of Nikita... I have the UK Blu-ray which has the runtime listed as 117mins, the same as the French Blu and the IMDB listing. Though if there is another version I'd definitely be interested in seeing it.

@msgeek - You know, I don't think I've seen a single one of Jodorowsky's films. Probably I should look into it at some point.

There's a version which has a suicide? (it's been a while since we talked about it) scene cut. I'll have to ask him about it and get back to you though as my memory appears to be failing me.

Almost forgot to post what i received this week, so here goes;

  • Nichijou - My Ordinary Life: Collection 02 - through Madman's webshop
  • Dance in the Vampire Bund - via Archonia.com, actually thought to receive the Limited Edition as their page shows a photo of the LE, but received the regular combo edition. Mailed them about this, but they have no intention to give some compensation :-(
  • Hero Tales Part 1 LE and Part 2 - via Archonia.com
  • Chrome Shelled Regios Part 1 LE - also via Archonia.com, they are by no means a cheap webshop, normally always a tad more expensive than UP1USA but here i'm certain that what i receive is in 100% new condition.
  • Toradora - via UP1USA, i already own the MVM version of Toradora, but this is again such a nice NIS edition which i couldn't simply resist ... blame me for being weak
  • One Week Friends - final one for this week and also through UP1USA. Haven't seen it but hear good things about it.

My Dad got a new TV so I got his old one. It's a little old but I'm still super happy with it. At 40' it's almost double the size of the monitor I was using and it's still a full 1080p display.

I should have bought it too... I hesitated and now it's not on their site anymore

Was away for a while so there was a bunch of stuff waiting for me

Why not garden of words collector's edition?

There wasn't one because of these reasons:
- Makoto Shinkai collection
- The film is very short, so Andrew felt the price shouldn't be high and as such decided not to make a Collector's Edition for it.

Wow, then i got really lucky there. Rightstuf still has some copies of the Premium Edition, but also at a premium price.

Yeah I saw that, UP1USA was cheaper even without taking customs into account.
By the way, why did Toradora appear in their new releases thingy on the right side of their site? That's where I saw it but it's not really new.
