So are all US Blu Rays this thin? I thought it was just Elfen Lied box that was thin but this one is too. It's kind of weird, the boxes feel much more flimsy than the standard UK ones.

Yeah a majority of the world's Blu-ray sets are thin cases. I think only the UK and Australia use the thick Blu-ray cases (whatever they're called). In fact Dragon Ball Z Kai actually uses the US cases that hold 4 discs (similar to Anime Limited's Durarara!! and Gurren Lagann).

At first I hated the slim cases (thanks to how the Kaze sets looked) but after seeing how they look on the shelf I don't mind them. Partially because the US sets don't cram logos everywhere, it's just a simple cover.

tl;dr

It'll look weird at first but once you have multiple shows in thin cases they look pretty good on the shelf.

US blu-rays come in many shapes in sizes however they generally use the MeadWestvaco Vortex (used mainly by Disney and Sony) and Viva Elite which are usually either 11mm or 12.5mm thick while UK cases are generally 14mm thick AGI Amaray cases. Some US Blu-rays also come in 14mm cases in rare instances. US cases can go all the way up to 25mm Viva Elite Cases which hold 7 to 10 discs.

Well, I guess that's something I learned today. Elfen Lied and Kiniro Mosaic are my first US imports besides Shiki, which came in 2 4 disc boxes so were the same thickness as UK blu rays, so I had no idea.

Do not get me started on the subject of irregular spine widths and different curvatures at the top corners of BD cases. The ISO should be ashamed of themselves.

I actually prefer the US cases, they feel as though they use a softer plastic which would bend more before snapping. A lot of the flimsy feeling UK ones barely close correctly and often overlap the hinges.

Acquisitions during and found upon my return from my little jolly to the continent.

Getting that bloody Intuos back in my Ryanair hand luggage was not an easy task, but it saved me £30 buying it in Euros.

Bleach - Complete Series 13 - More Bleach, so not very interesting. I mentioned in another post that I was sure I bought this before, and now I've held it in my hands I'm even more sure that I had :? Maybe have to sift through my emails and see if there's anything there, but being Bleach I may have bought it in HMV.....or maybe I picked it up but put it back...........I must be getting old. :(

Indeed, I thought I had a bootleg when my first US slim case came through, (which was Clannad) I had to look up unboxing vids to just make sure hah! But not only do they look good they take up considerable less amount of space too.

Got a mixed bag in the post today. On the upside, my Azumanga Daioh set came.

It's a really nice collector's box, it feels really solid. Quite pleased with it.

On the down side I got a letter from Parcel Force. They're holding my Madman package hostage for £30. Jesus Christ. Didn't expect that at all, my last order made it through unscathed. Ugh. I guess I won't be getting Chuunibyou this month...

I got a ransom note for my Sword Art Online from madman by parcelforce. The reason...they opened the parcel and looked at the slip inside to calculate the charge. If they hadn't opened it then i wouldn't have got charged as the slip on the box said 'Sample DVD $5'.
