UK Anime Blu-ray & DVD Bargains

Awk, DVD Pacific is changing management. The website's shut for 2-days while they introduce 'new and exciting stuff'

What this usually means is that prices will go up. Given the number of cheap DVDs I've bouught from DVD Pacific, that's worrying.

DVD Pacific prices have only been so-so (still good, but not the immediate obvious choice they used to be) for a while now, imo, due to the way they changed their shipping and the $/£ rate. Five or six years ago, I didn't buy from anywhere else.

DVD Pacific aren't so good with pre-orders because of their shipping prices. They do, however, have more decent prices once the shipping charge gets sorted after release.

I'm waiting for SecondSpin/Wherehouse to have another discount + free shipping code for new stock; like they did at xmas when I ordered Baccano and My HiME 2. I want to order S&W and .hack//G.U.: Trilogy...

...Still, there's plenty of used DVDs to keep me entertaining and my local postal workers busy until that day comes.

As expected, HMV have listed the newly announced Beez Anime Legends sets for £14.99 each. They've also added the second Gundam SEED Destiny set for £14.99.

Haruhi: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDet ... &sku=55859

My-HiME: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDet ... &sku=55862

Witch Hunter Robin: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDet ... &sku=57207

Gundam SEED Destiny 2: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDet ... &sku=55435

I've now ordered both Eureka and Gundam SEED Destiny sets, as well as Haruhi. If not for me owning everything else already, I would've ordered the other sets, too.

HMV also have the Death Note: Relight box set listed for £14.99. Just a heads up in case anyone is thinking of getting the individual releases.

Edit:

xxxholic 1, £3.99: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDet ... sku=883695

Negima!? 1&2 - £4.79:

Strange, HMV is listing Haruhi as 1 disc. will pick it up at that price but surely there will be more than 1?

Negimas now on my buy list.

AOL have annoyed me by dropping the prices of Daphne 2-3 to 99p (from £4.99)... only days after I paid £15 for Daphne 1-3; which Play only shipped yesterday.

They've also dropped two more Basilisk volumes down to 99p--meaning you can now get 3/6 of an excellent series for under £3 -- and a fair few other volumes, too. It's worth having another look through the 99p-£1.99 section!

Also, after remembering to order Skull Man from PlayUSA, I've looked through their 'Coming Soon' list for updates.

Aquarion: £15.99

^ Isn't this still coming out over here; for like £10 per volume?... Well, whatever: PlayUSA want to give it away for very little. And for very good reason, going on its basic description and review hate.

Kanon (2006) - £16.99

^ The 2D girls look sickly, and Air bored me to tears. DO NOT WANT!

Play-USA also have S1&2 of Gunslinger Girl on Blu-ray for pre-order, at £18 a shot. I'd probably order S2, if I could play Blu-rays...

What I ordered:

Skull Man - £17.99

Living For The Day After Tomorrow - £17.99

(oddly the other two vols released so far are still going for high prices)

That be 'cause it be a misprice and Beez's expensivvvvve releases don't-a drop in price, marrrrrrrrrrrn.

I ordered the the first R1 set ages ago, for no apparent reason. Getting this for £5 will take me to 2/3; albeit with mixed region volumes. Cheers for the heads up!

Gundam 00 vol. 2 going for an inexplicably low £4.99
http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/9834428/ ... oduct.html

Unfortunately vol. 1 and 3 are still £24.99 so it's not really worth it unless you only wanted vol. 2. Still pretty insane.

Thanks for that i needed vol 2 i need part 3 as well but that can wait =) for £4.99 i would be stupid not to pick it up now

I decided this too =P plus I found vol 1 on amazon marketplace (used) for £16 so I'll just wait for 3 to go down a bit now.

Right just browsing Play.com i came across this:

http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/9834428/Mobile-Suit-Gundam-00-Vol-2/Product.html

The second Vol of Gundam 00 for only £4.99 (oddly the other two vols released so far are still going for high prices)

this may not be the only anime deal on there either

It was marked as £22.99 a couple of days ago listed in one of the numerous sale categories. I was considering getting it, because the US release is riddled with a visual defect. Glad I didn't. Hopefully they will honor this.

Oh really? What went wrong with the subs? I hadn't heard anything about it before. Can't imagine it's anywhere near as offputting as the visual glitches on the R1 edition. I certainly hope not anyway. But at £4.99 I can't really complain.

"MVM sets rarely drop below £30..." - Fabriluna

Basilisk: £25.50

(Note to Ayarse: This would be a good anime to go with. Unlike Noir, it's so involving you could finish it in one sitting--the first episode and pacing grabs you in that kind of way. Fabriluna never listens to me, so will you start... pretty please? It depresses me that no-one realizes that I'm never wrong...)

GunxSword: £25.50

According to Fabriluna, the best anime known to man. I, on the other hand, wasn't impressed with a pole dancer controlling a mecha by... pole dancing.

Witchblade 1-3: £10 + Witchblade 4: £1.99 = <3

Until the day comes when the box set isn't £37, £12 for 4/6 of the series is excellent value for money. And, if you so wish, you can finish your collection for the grand total of £22 - not far of half the box set price.
