UK Anime Blu-ray & DVD Bargains

/Agrees with Rui.

If it's a title I want then I'll go for the pre-order price on, say, Amazon. I see the DOTW as an opportunity to pick up older titles and those I'd like but aren't bothered about getting as soon as they are released.

From MVM's perspective, as Rui says, it's done as a loss leader to attract people to their store particularly on Play and to raise people's awareness of them.

I do agree that there is a risk that if titles are added too soon after release then it will encourage people to wait for them to be on DOTW which is why you tend to see mostly older titles with newer ones feeding in after 12-18 months or so.

on the other hand, amazon raised a lot of prices cause i could notice that on my whislist, most of the titles were raised around£4-5 pounds... Includings new and old titles... I was planning to make an order next week but I wont until those prices come down again.

Regarding zavvi, thats some good prices indeed.

Looks like Zavvi have cottoned on and have raised some of the prices, or have "sold out".

The Hut, one of the few well-known competitors left to fight it against Amazon.

Looks like a great deal, but I'm afraid the ones that are yet to be released are not region B compatible, even with the "Sentai trick" :(

The Sentai trick is still alive and kicking. Maria Holic worked. Their video encoding is still as crappy as ever though.
I doubt that Sentai is going to change anything related to their authoring method anytime soon.

Phew, I was on the fence about pre-ordering fairy tail. But just checked my account it still says £11 :D
Wish Amazon made errors like this lol

Regarding Rightstuf, customs fee's are imminent, aren't they?

Dunno how it is for the United Kingdom, but for Portugal, it's only if the order goes over a certain value. I made about 5 orders and I only had to pay 2 of them because they combined both into just one, making it surpass the customs value.

They stopped the $5 per item declarations a while ago after customs cottoned on, so all those items would (if caught) be subject to the royal fail £8 handling charge plus import VAT.

If anybody is thinking of buying from Rightstuf might want to checkout their Got Anime membership. It costs $12 per year but gives a 10% discount on most items including sale items. So if you buy more than $120 of items from this sale it would more than pay for itself.

Zavvi have cancelled my £10.95 order for Fairy Tail Collection 2. :(
Same. I'm really pissed off tbh. It isn't our fault they got the pricing wrong, why should we suffer, due to their error? Might send them an email.
Not getting a product for cheap is suffering? Oh to live in your world.

As a former retailer, let me point out something a lot of people mistakenly believe to be the case about pricing which is actually bollocks: Retailers are not obliged to sell you an item for a stated price if the item was mistakenly priced. A transaction has to have the agreement of both the buyer and the seller, if the seller refuses to sell an item for a certain price, the buyer cannot force them to do so. Some retailers will honour misprices, but they're not obliged to do so at all.

Yup as Ayase says, never go into misprices assuming that they will be honoured, no matter what HotUKDeals' armchair lawyers say. Amazon are usually fairly good at it, but Zavvi/The Hut will usually don't.

I doubted they'd be honouring the price as I got about 7 or 8 "Were you looking for this?" emails relating to the Fairy Tail collection between the order and them cancelling it. Frustrating but I'll live.

I did email them to say I was disappointed that they wouldn't be honouring the price and pointed out that Amazon's pre-order price was over £10 cheaper than re-ordering at Zavvi's current price, but their reply didn't acknowledge that at all - so naturally my pre-order has now moved over to Amazon!

Heh. They just sent me the same BS email again. Ahh well, it really was too good to be true. I have a 5% Amazon discount, but not sure I can wait till June. Might just bite my tongue and order from up1.
