The Q & A Thread (for questions that do not need a thread)

Has anybody brought something from moviemars-usa on Amazon UK before? I'm after a now difficult to find US non-anime blu-ray, that might or might not be oversized, I don't know if I can trust them.
I bought a CD from them in September, turned up fine. Was new as stated in the listing and wasn't a bootleg.

They dispatch from the US, but I think most Amazon UK sellers have this weird thing where they pay the VAT, or if you do get a charge, normally they'll pay it if you contact them. I might be talking nonsense here though.

Here's a quick one, anyone know what happened to Studio Canal's release of The Boy and The Beast?

Think it was originally slated for September, but couldn't find much info on a new release window.

I believe a couple of sites said January, but nobody seems to know what actually happened/is happening. @Joshawott seems to think their silence coincided with the BBFC giving it a 12, but I don't know if the timescales match up.

I do hope that The Boy and The Beast turns back up as I'm really eager to actually watch it. It'd be a shame if it never saw a proper release after how good Wolf Children was. :(

I do wonder if they'll ever bring it out now - they must have paid money to acquire the license in the first place, so if they don't it'll be a waste of money - but equally, now they've missed the boat to create hype, maybe the JP licensor got pissed off at them and took the license back.

Or maybe it'll languish in licensing hell now like Snowpiercer and nobody will bother to release it because the boat has effectively been missed.

I'll probably just end up buying the Australian release, much like the Bebop movie.

Suppose it has only been available in the US for 6 months.

The US release is Region B, you could just buy that if it's easier for you.

To be fair, Snowpiercer is TWC's fault. When they threatened to cut the film nobody in the UK wanted it, and by the time they relented, it was too late to get a deal done. I have heard several distributors turned it down because they felt everyone that wanted to see it would have pirated it by then. *Whistles innocently*

It's not sold by a JP licensor, it's international sales are handled by France's Gaumont. So we can probably rule out most Japanese levels of craziness.

With the release of the Ghost in the Shell trailer, I fancy going back and rewatching the original film. Rather than dig out my DVD copy, I was wondering if I could get a recommendation of a HD release of it to go for at a reasonable price and preferably playable on a PS3/4? I know its been re-released and remastered in a few forms so I'm not certain what to go for.

I seem to recall reading that there were a few issues with the Manga Blu-ray release (was it steelbook only?), mostly subtitling and an audio issue with the English track. I think they originated on the US release and apparently carried over to the Manga release (I suppose they're essentially the same anyway). I'm not sure if the US release is Region B compatible, though. I watched the Manga steelbook version and didn't think there were major problems but there might be better alternatives (though that could mean going for a Japanese release or something). Saying that, I'm not sure it's particularly easy to get hold of at the moment.

I think it's on Netflix at the moment, so I guess that's a possible option.

I expect someone else can probably give you a better and more complete answer, especially if there are other releases that I haven't thought of.

I wonder if Manga will do a new release at some point to try and take advantage of potential interest surrounding the live-action film. I'd imagine it'd probably happen closer to the actual release of the new film though.

This talk of the GitS steelbook edition made me check if it was still in stock, since Zavvi were flogging it for a tenner a while back. Just seen it's out of stock now, and people are listing it for triple the price on ebay. I might sell my copy. XD

Yup - the subtitles on the GITS steelbook are some of the worst I've ever seen. Even worse, they actually used this set of subs when they played the film at the BFI Anime weekend earlier this year.

That said, if you don't mind watching the English dub (which for all its rustiness in places, is admittedly a classic) then it's perfectly serviceable.

It's funny really, with the original GITS dub, for the most part I love it, and it has so many classic lines - but the one bit I always take issue with is the famous scene of the Major and Batou on the boat, where she starts quoting from the Bible - and it sounds really stilted. I'm not sure if they did this on purpose to make her words seem hollow/emotionless, or if they were struggling to fit the words into the lip-sync / time needed to say them, but it always struck me as having a weird intonation compared to the rest of the dub.

Am I right in thinking that this release of Little Witch Academia The Enchanted Parade includes the first OVA and that both have English subs? Anyone able to confirm that's the case?

So bit of a random question. Hopefully someone may have some experience with anime on OLED tv's?

I'm currently considering getting one of the 2016 LGs. A friend from work has one and we popped over at lunch for me to check it out.

My thoughts could be summed up by;
Colours were wonderful
Details were excellent
Some concerns over judder

Specifically, whilst only slightly evident in some things we looked at, when watching Totoro some of the movement seemed quite juddery, particularly some of the pans.

Now unfortunately we didn't have enough time to dig into whether this is expected or if it was down to his setup or settings. There was a de-judder setting available and whilst this seemed to help it had the unwanted effect of creating artifacts.

Apologies if this is the wrong thread but seeing as the effects appeared most pronounced in Anime, and as I'd be watching a lot of Anime on it, it's an area of concern. I'm kind of hoping someone has experience with something like the above?

Thanks in advance if anybody does!
