The Q & A Thread (for questions that do not need a thread)

I was staring at my old Anime DVD's for a while wondering if any of them in particular would be nice if they were given the HD treatment.

Metropolis seemed to stand out. Great little film. It appears to have been given the HD treatment in Japan;

So I guess I have I couple of questions / thoughts out the back of that if anyone could be so kind as to assist me or share their opinions;

1) That Amazon JP listing doesn't seem to have a dub/sub. Can anyone confirm?
2) I can't see any western version of it on BD. Correct?
3) The theme of humanoid robots seems to be quite prevalent in a few of Anime Ltd movie releases. Could this be something they might pick up? I guess this is not quite as mature as what they have done. Could also be that Manga UK still have the license?

1) Raw, Japanese audio only.
2) No English territory has released the film on Blu-ray.
3) Animax/Sony still have the rights to the film on DVD. Would be cool to see Anime Ltd pick it up if the license one day expires.

Likewise with Steamboy and the Cowboy Bebop movie - would be great to see BR editions of Sony's anime titles. See also Memories and Tokyo Godfathers.

I've got a few things on my backlog that I'm thinking of purchasing - which of these would people recommend watching/checking out first?

Last Exile
Welcome to the Space Show
Darker Than Black
Bamboo Blade
Ah My Godess
Shakugan No Shana
Welcome To The NHK
Vampire Knight
Rosario + Vampire
Blue Exorcist

Darker Than Black is really good, the second season not so much though. Blue Exorcist is really mediocre and was responsible for one of my Anime slumps. It's a standard 25 episode show and it took me almost a month to finish it. To put that in perspective, I got through FMA:B in a week and Gundam Seed in 2 weeks. It's a drag.

I really liked Welcome to the NHK. Got through it in 2 days. It's heavy on Japanese subcultures and under its comedic aspect it deals with some serious issues. I think the LN and manga are darker but I really enjoyed it this way.
I still listen to the background music.
And that first ending. Damn.

Last Exile is a classic created to celebrate Gonzo's 10th anniversary. Definitely worthy of your shelves, in my opinion.

Cool, sounds like those three are definite ones to check out then.

Although I'm not sure 'classic' and 'Gonzo' go together often, ha...

If I wanted to start collecting the Monogatari Aniplex sets where would I find the best prices? Ta :3

Probably UP1USA. Charged in dollars and at retail price, but it ships from the UK so no customs. If you lived in the US Rightsuf would most likely be the best way to go.

Bakemonogatari UP1USA/Rightstuf

I wouldn't disagree with the recommendations above.

I did enjoy Welcome to the Space Show when I watched it. I think it varies a bit throughout, occasionally not seeming to be sure what it wants to do, but overall I think it worked quite well as a fun adventure film (with a bit of heart). It's been a while since I watched it so I really should get around to that and see how it holds up.

I also found Bamboo Blade very interesting. It's kind of a sports anime although I'd say it maybe leans more towards slice of life (which I suppose a lot of sports anime at least touch on). It has some quite good character stories and a bit of emotion, it does have "cute girls doing cute things" elements as well. I guess it's mostly light-hearted but I think it would be a mistake to write it off as lacking depth. I suppose that may often be true of sports anime as well (they are often overlooked). It's another one that I watched a while ago though so who knows if my memories are accurate.

Quick Question I pre-ordered Resurrection F from Amazon JP and the estimated delivery is Oct 10-12 (release date is Oct 07) now I have heard that Amazon JP are quick but that seems a little too good to be true, did I do something wrong?

I don't know about Amazon JP, but there are some stores that breach street date for international sales. There's one UK-based US reseller, but I can't remember which it is, that consistently gets titles to people a fortnight or so before US release.

I think it's standard for Amazon JP international orders.
